Thank you so much for the video. Had good success getting the old control arm out since the rear bushing was shot. Having a heck of a time getting the new one in . . .. finally got the rear bushing in but starting to think I might have to drop the whole cradle to get the front one in.

Great video! Thank you for sharing. I’m going to be doing the same thing to my ‘05 Town and Country. I was wondering, did you reuse the same bolts when you installed the new control arm, or did you use new bolts?

Can you send me the link for you installing the passenger side, I can’t find it - thank you

When you reinstall it's a little more than just a reverse of taking it off because you need to preload the angle of the control arm how it will sit when the van is on top of it. You don't want to torque the pivot bolt down while it's not at the resting angle because this will cause the bushing to rip apart sooner.

Does adding heat to the old bushing help to get it out? All the over videos recommended getting an alignment.

Daniel Swift not on these. A good thick pry bar is a must and what most of us long time techs lack.... patience. Take your time and you'll be fine. Yes an alignment is crucial. I don't loosen or remove the 2 bolts through the strut personally but that will for certain throw off the alignment. Especially if you discover the holes of the strut are slotted and by that I mean allow for camber adjustments. If you mark around the heads of the bolts on the strut it will help ensure you put them back exactly as they were. Get your alignment checked before you do any work. Many shops offer a free alignment check. Then fix it and have them check it again. If the alignment is off beforehand, changing a bad suspension part will either bring the suspension back into spec, have to change but unlikely that will be the case, or lastly worse then before, but either way it must be checked and corrected, because failure to do so will often lead to rapid tire wear or poor handling. Good luck!

Adam Czajka Thanks they long pry did help to open it up a lot, plus I backed off a few more cradle bolts. I changed the strut, sway link, lower A arm, outer steering rod end. The inner rod end came in my Detroit Axle kit($210) but I don’t have the tool to pull it out. Thanks for your help. I used baby oil to slip the A arm bushing in place. Worked really good, and it’s safe for rubber.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to swap the control arms with out taking the entire support brace down. From what I hear the big bolts that go into the body can be a bear. I'm attempting this job on July fourth of all days lol. I'm doing lower control arms, inner and outer tie rods, and sway bar links.

yes you can, everything on this vehicle is tight, and not much room. good luck and thanks for the comment.

Those long bolts in the far rear into the body ARE a bear - but I did end up having to loosen the entire cradle on the right side to get the new control arm in.

Just did this today on my 06 Town and country. Took about 6 hours altogether. I didn't have a 18 mm open end to get the ball joint nut off. Ended up grinding down my box end wrench so I could fit it in. That nut also had thread locker on it and was a bear to get off. After a lot of prying I got the old control arm out. Didn't have to disconnect the steering though. Putting it back together, made sure to clean up where the control arm bushings go. Used a propane torch to heat up the rear hole a little. Also put a little petroleum jelly on the bushing and it went right in. Thanks for showing I didn't need to take out the cradle. All done and no more clunking.

I removed and installed control arms without removing the entire cradle. However, I still had to remove the cradle bolts on each side to leave enough clearance to pull the control arms out. As far as the large rear bushing bolts, I must've beat on this forever. I borrowed a buddies breaker bar that was about 3" and that did the trick.

You should have loosened the cradle bolts below the bushing and stuck pry in between. Will make taking it off much more easy.
