It's the catless headers like he said. Bought one off a guy with full rogue engineering exhaust and cats moved to exhaust section 1, gets rid of all the raspiness people hate from the stock exhaust and just sounds unbelievable... Miss that thing badly

I’ve owned 2 e46 m3s before and now currently own an e92 m3. S65 is by far the better car. E46 looks perfect tho but always in the shop

Sounds like a V12 almost. The snaps on the downshifts are intoxicating. The car seems so clean, great job by him to keep it classy appearance wise and once you turn the exhaust down it becomes very tame sounding.

I got one of these when I was in highschool, started with a 325 vert but wanted more. Ended up finding a dinan tuned e46 m3 and I’ve still had it for 6 years and wouldn’t give it up for any other car. Guys right when he said the car is like a human because it is in just some way. Has 110k as of now but still runs like a beast.

My personal favorite M car that motor is so charismatic I adore the high revving metallic sound of this motor, not to mention the timeless design. This and either a 5.0 or Shelby GT350 would be my obtainable dream cars. I applaud the owner for picking up this gem and driving it !.

SMG is actually the correct gearbox for this car. Frank Smith has a great gearbox tune for the car. Have manual swapped my car but if I had my time again would stick with SMG.

Great car. Great video. Don’t swap out the SMG to MT. When “the pump” goes… it won’t be the pump. The motor brushes eat the commutator. Just get the motor rewound for $300; then relocate the entire pump assembly to your empty drug well. Next time my pump motor goes, I’ll be back on the road in literally 15 minutes (I keep a spare motor on hand). Ban the SMG haters.

I have a stock 2006 Z4 M Coupe that sounds silent compared to this fantastic sounding M3. Living in California shame this M3 would be ticketed for too loud of an exhaust. If I were younger guy would consider moving to another state for this and multiple other reasons. This car is so clean, well maintained and cared for.

The e46 M3 was the first sports car I bought used back in 2010 and boy do I miss it... Everyone made fun of the SMG but I really enjoyed it for about 50k miles and never had any issues. Once you understood what it's thinking (which took some time) it was a lot of fun. I wish I still had it to go along side my Camaro SS 1LE. Glad you covered this car!

23:50 I disconnected the 12V battery in my 2002 Prius. It felt VERY confused after I reconnected the battery. Ran the engine for no reason, refused to charge the high-voltage battery, and the state-of-charge went down to 25% and then after a LONG force-charge it went all the way to full. After a few days, it was back to normal. Adaptive ECUs (at least in hybrids) have definitely been around since the early 2000s

Love the E46 but the part about the GT350 not being able to reel this in on the straights is crazy. The 350 reels in M4s and the base Mustang GT matches or outperforms the E92M3 (see Savage Geese who owned one). 😊 This is a much slower class of car than those and when new was similar to Evos and STIs of that gen.

30-40k is insane, you get a nice one in the uk from about 14-15k and the cheapest right now is £9000 or £9250 for a 2005 with 110k

Pretty nuts to realize that the USDM spec m3 is nerfed from engine to trans compared to the german models. YET STILL embarrasses most current production cars in 2022. I miss early 2000s mercedes, porsche, and bmw. True apex predators of the road… and the reason why i myself, became a master euro tech. I was 16 and was tboned by a lifted truck in my dads e46 m3. Fire department had to cut me out of the car. They said the only reasons i lived was because at that time, bmw has reenforced the b-pillar beyond most production cars in that time period. Bmw w46 was ment to save your life if where to roll over at high speeds. Now its the manufacturing law that every car must be designed like this for 2022.
