Car running, resivoir cap...not sure. It’s been a while. This fixes the heater temp. I recommend you watch this with these vehicles, the head gasket is unreliable.

Just used your idea!! Phenomenal idea… Took about 45-60 minutes Did exactly what you did with an additional step added. I took of the reservoir cap off the radiator container which help significantly to siphon the coolant into the block. Now our 2007 Equinox temperature gauge sits just @ 30% or just a little above the 1/4 mark. Anyway just want to say thank you for this idea and works 100%. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I recorded a video and wish I can tag your video so that you all can see how my process went.

Mine was doing that the other day fixed and changed the water pump because the seal was damaged and instantly fixed it so coolant was reaching the radiator and other parts of the engine it will barely reach half mark now.

It helps to bleed these from cold, with the nose parked pointing uphill overnight. Then you can safely open the bleeder screw and add coolant, start the car and keep adding coolant as the car warms up and purges the air. When it stops taking coolant after the tstat opens, that’s when you close the bleeder off and let it idle a little more. Then shut it down and let it cool off ( a few hours) and repeat if necessary. It can take a while, and it helps if you can jumper the relay to keep the cooling fans on- that way the cooler coolant in the radiator pushes into the engine and displaces the air. If it’s not working you may need a water pump and if replacing that doesn’t work, it’s the head gaskets.

You have to reset the entrie computer anytime you replace any plug in component. Otherwise the egr valve will not work and throw codes on your computer. Taking the battery cables off for 15 minutes will clear and reset the vehicle. In turn the egr valve works again and won't push air through the system and cause it to overheat. Burp the engine through the bleeder valve as well to release any air.

Wait so you had the car running took the bleeder screw out and tried to fill up from the bleeder screw?

Is that a head bolt missing? I have 2 missing in the front also.

Mine stays between a little over 1/4 and sometimes goes to half on idle. Is that normal. It never went pass half .

It would have been great if you could have demonstrated the process, but I understand its not always possible to film everything.

Question; is the engine “actually” overheating ( if so it heats up very fast at idle) or is there an air bubble that surrounds the temp gage sensor and makes the gage just read high temp very quickly. It Seems to heat up and cool down very quickly. To fast a temp change on the gage for the engine to actually get hot and cool down that fast. ?????? At any rate the culvert is air in the system. Just a thought. Good video!

Check your heater core hoses and swap them around make sure it matches with the flow there’s a T right there is your hose is going into your heater core

I just got my Equinoxx 2005 fix and notice that the temp gauge going just like the one in the video , and also turning the heater on I got just cold air.... I like to know if running in normal conditions where the temp gauge have to be ? have to be in the middle or less ? later on today I will try this , thanks for the heads up ..

Can't stress this enough, the head gaskets on the first couple years of this first generation of equinox are made very cheap (google carcomplaints and see the 4,000 complaints about the head gasket), they blow/break which lets air into the cooling system (sometimes coolant into the oil system) that causes air pockets. Your vehicle with air pockets can overheat your engine and can give you reduced heat in the colder months. Also to do with overheating is your thermostat, your thermostat might need to be replaced. Also read this, if your getting very little hot air your cabin without the over heating issue there are usually two issues that I know of...#1 The heater core can be clogged and may need a back flush and or there can be air pockets in the system. #2 The blend doors (which is a single flap that lets either cold air, hot air, or both to pass through into your cabin) may not be closing all the way properly like they should and may need to be replaced. These cheap blend doors misfunction a lot on this first gen equinox too.

Hey guys, just had this problem. Spent probably $150 on coolant over 2 weeks. Changed the thermostat, a couple of hoses (direct from reservoir) and nothing was working. It was still leaking. Turns out, it was a $10 T-hose. So make sure yall check that out

Just replaced head gaskets on mine, the no heat condition was first sign of problem followed by air constantly entering cooling system causing overheat. I'd say gaskets are bad on this vehicle, how else the air get in??

PLEASE DO NOT I REPEAT THIS DO NOT HAVE YOUR HEAT GOING FULL TURN THE TEMP ALL THE WAY OVER TO HOT (NO FAN GOING) THEN LET THE THERMOSTAT OPEN THEN SHUT OFF LET COOL AND THEN BLEED FROM THERE IF ANY IS NEEDED THEN ADD THEN TURN THE FAN AND HEAT ON FULL OR IT WILL JUST BOIL THE HELL OUT OF IT AND GUESS WHAT THERE GOES THE HEAD GASKET

I replaced my fill cap, water pump, thermostat and hose assembly... But my car was still overheating. I had no idea this bleed valve was on the car. Totally fixed it. There was a ton of air in there

Head gasket going in cylinder #2 common issue combustion gases get into the cooling system causing the air. Typical GM garbage lol
