The legal proceedings had already been heating up, 2005 would be defined by Michael Jackson's long awaited reckoning and the most publicised trial of the decade. After years of speculation and public image blunders its outcome meant everything, the difference between freedom and redemption, or the loss of everything and his ultimate downfall.
But even after an incredible victory that cleared his name, the question still remained, what chapter would come next for the King of Pop?

I remember 2005 and Michael Jackson quite well. I remember classmates mocking me for supporting MJ and his innocence. I remember we were watching the verdict live while holding my breath with each count. I was happy he was vindicated. I was scared for him. I could tell this trial broke him, and he never recovered. 💔

2:06 this part actually sticks out a lot to me and proves more of MJ's innocence Michael knew he was innocent and knew he didn't do anything wrong hence why he had a calm demeanor while also having a stern tone to his voice so he could set the record straight. In comparison to R Kelly during Gayle King's interview where he's losing his mind cuz he knows he's getting caught/exposed for his crimes and look where he is now.

The trial was bittersweet in many ways. I'm glad MJ was acquitted on all charges, but you could tell it took its toll on him emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. MJ didn't smile the same way, not to mention he was much more reserved in the aftermath of it all. Overall, the whole thing broke his heart, and he never truly recovered from it. Great video from the detail. Long live the king of pop. 😢🎉

Michael Jackson's biggest mistake was returning to the U.S. He should have stayed in any other country but never again the U.S. He knew the evil and the hurt people tried to inflict on him there and he would probably still be alive if he hadn't returned to the U.S. He should have stayed in Bahrain, even Japan. He cried tears of joy about how amazing and respectful Japan treated him at the Japan World Music Awards. I'l say it again and I'll continue to say it, MJ should have never returned to the U.S because all people tried to do in the U.S was kill his innocent soul.

Michael Jackson is and will forever be innocent! The fact that this man was put through intense amount of scrutiny, controversy, ridicule, and humiliation by the media just breaks my heart. After all, in a 2003 interview, he mentioned that "The bigger the star, the bigger the target." regarding his celebrity status. He had an enormous kind heart and all he wanted was to entertain people and make the world a better place but some people just couldn't see it. I'm just so glad he's in a better place and will always hate the world for the cruel, ugly, and malicious treatment they put Michael through. 😢

I remember more strongly how the world stopped on his passing. but I’m very thankful for this channel and how eloquently it condenses these moments in time, it’s really powerful and effective when there is no voice over or script, but only the truth in peoples words. Michaels celebrity and eccentricity was and will forever be a target to the media that can profit from spreading disguised ignorance, we the fans will always have to deal with that, thanks to the internet the media continues to lose its power.

At the time in the State of California (1993), a civil trial could proceed a criminal trial of the same matter. This would be very advantageous for criminal prosecutors since they could use this loophole to get around the defendant's Fifth Amendment due process rights. And the criminal prosecutors stated they were investigating and were watching the outcome civil case closely before making charging decisions in the criminal case. If he was to go to trial for the civil case, his defense's playbook would be out in the open so that the criminal prosecutors could study and prepare themselves for the defense. So, if he was to win the civil case, all the criminal prosecutors would need to do would be call different witnesses, change some dates, and strategically undermine his defense strategy based on the info they learned from the civil case and they would most likely have a win in their criminal case. He had to settle. It was a losing battle. But settling doesn't excuse the criminal portion. A grand jury decided not to bring a criminal indictment because the Chandlers took the settlement money and refused to cooperate with the criminal case. Since then, State law has been amended so that criminal cases must go first if there are both civil and criminal cases involving the same matter. And I think if State law was this way back in 1993, he probably wouldn't have been advised to settle.

no artist was as interesting to the media as Michael, no artist on earth was subjected to such tests as Michael. Someone's black excessive envy, greed for money led to the fact that a man of such magnitude as MJ was crucified and publicly humiliated. Yes, he was acquitted, but at what cost? At the cost of undermined health and lack of faith in people. Seeing Michael on the day when the acquittal verdict was announced, you involuntarily realize that Michael actually died at that trial... And how much more could he give to the world in terms of his talent? But it was not profitable for someone, someone very much did not want it...

I had no idea what a travesty this trial was until I read the court transcripts. Now I understand why the people of Santa Barbara apologised to Michael Jackson after his death. Here is an excerpt from the article in the San Diego Tribune. "Santa Barbara News-Press: “Our legal system abused Jackson” Michael Jackson, rest in peace. The entertainer for years called Santa Barbara County his home, often taking time out to do good works and open up Neverland Ranch to our community’s children. But, sadly, the words “Michael Jackson” and “Santa Barbara County” conjure up other memories in the minds of people all over the world. It was here that Mr. Jackson had to endure a legal system that seemed bent on going after him. And it was during the Jackson prosecution that the broken nature of some of the county’s law enforcement operations were on full display. Mr. Jackson, it seems, never personally or artistically recovered from the abuse he suffered at the hands of our county"
@TavianOladapo
@TavianOladapo 11 ай бұрын
The rest of the article Excerpt from the San Diego Tribune . June 30 2009 "And now, with Mr. Jackson’s death, it’s time to reflect on the spectacles that certain former county officials made of themselves in pursuit of trying to put him behind bars. The limelight appeared more important to them than justice. At the time of his trial, the News-Press editorially tempered its response to the Jackson case because it was an ongoing criminal proceeding. In June 2005, though, we thanked the 12 county residents on the jury for their service to the county and the criminal justice system. We noted that, although onlookers had used the word “circus” to describe some events over the prior months, it was clear that inside the courthouse jurors took their duties seriously. Too many cable television pundits had tried Mr. Jackson on their shows and found him guilty. They used his misfortunes to try to grab personal glory and money. These commentators then derided the jury for basing its decisions on the evidence presented rather than on emotion. The jury did its job and, ultimately, brought integrity back to the process. That can’t be said regarding then-District Attorney Thomas Sneddon and former sheriff-turned-commentator Jim Thomas. Mr. Sneddon didn’t run for re-election - and we’re confident that Santa Barbara voters would have denied him another term if he had. The waste of law enforcement resources in the Jackson case has become legendary. More than 70 investigators raided Neverland Ranch. The D.A.’s office diverted time and money from other prosecutions - all for a case so weak that a jury didn’t find Mr. Jackson guilty of anything. From the start, there appeared an effort to embarrass or harass Mr. Jackson. The entertainer, for example, was turning himself in and posed no escape threat - but nevertheless was handcuffed for the public to see. Mr. Jackson is gone. But his family should know that many people in Santa Barbara County regret what the legal system here unjustly put him through."

MJ never recovered from this year. MJ's naivety backfired against him (his love for kids without boundaries). Not to be all racial but I think one of the best things MJ could have done was to marry a strong black woman from early (like maybe early 1980's). I think that half the mess that happened in his life would not have happened if a no-nonsense black woman was in his corner. He longed to break away from his father's hold, but he needed some real solid people around him (not yes men or controllers) from before the superstardom.

@@entertainer_ev2747 I hear you, but there's a reason I said "from early". Meaning, from the early 80's. By 1993 (which is when I suspect MJ and Lisa started to talk) MJ had experienced a level of celebrity, dominance & wealth that few humans ever get to. He would have gotten used to getting his own way, 'calling the shots', and thinking that he stands on the right ground due to all his success. In the his early 20's he would have been more malleable. Lisa had grit, but even with her supposedly no non-sense attitude, it was just a bit too late. Just look at Denzel and Obama... both men who have few (or none really) personal controversies. Both got strong black women prior to their serious fame. MJ needed that. He almost had it with Stephanie Mills, but they split. He got stuck in the friendzone with Brooke Shields for super long. There are suspicions that he proposed to her and she said rejected it. He was always in love with Diana Ross (which was never going to work).
