I have a 2006 Civic with 399k km. It has hydraulic power steerong. The return and pressure lines leaked and were replaced. The pump and rack, however, are original and are fine.

Yea I have that tube style tool as well but the majority of the electronic steering racks on the new cars don't have those notches for the tool anymore and are just smooth all around. And are super tight I guess they want you to replace the rack since the new rack comes with inner tie rods.

The hydraulic power steering rack in my 07 Accord V6 started leaking pretty bad at 120K miles, and I live in Southern California with relatively good weather year round. I don't know how this Honda Pilot's steering rack could last that long with an issue ...

When's the last time you changed the fluid? Honestly I change more electronic steering racks than the hydraulic ones. The ones I see mostly leak are the odysseys maybe cause they are family haulers and get neglected.

@@theoffroadingmechanic I do all my own maintenance and have been changing the fluid every 60K miles via removing fluid from the reservoir, filling it back up, turn steering lock to lock a couple times .. and repeat this whole process 3 times each time. The rear main seal on my Accord is also leaking and covering the entire bottom of my oil pan and transmission with oil. Owned since brand new. ATF drain and fill every 30K and synthetic oil every 5K.
