You're both wrong because its actually the BOV + Compressor Surge. The doof sound is very slight compressor surge from the turbo (perfectly fine on closed throttle btw) and is normal on some adjustable BOV or BPV setups. The woosh sound immediately after the doof sound is the his Tial BOV venting air into the atmosphere when the throttle plate slams shut. It's not an EWG at all. The EWG makes a different sound akin to a side exit exhaust w/o cats or resonators. Sometimes it has flutter, sometimes it doesnt depending if you run equal length or unequal length headers. The distinguishing feature for an EWG is the loud roaring sound. It only opens when hitting a certain boost pressure to prevent boost creep e.g. 10 psi by venting excess exhaust gas and the diameter of the EWG will determine how loud it sounds (mine is only 40mm but it screams louder than my exhaust). I have a Turbosmart Gen V EWG on the car and it flutters but its extremely loud coming from the engine bay since I have an open dump tube rather than a recirculated EWG. Recircirculated EWG's are quieter since it's routed through the downpipe and you can hardly tell if it's there unless you're straight piped. TL;DR ya'll both wrong I can't believe I just explained compressor surge and atmospheric venting with doof and woosh. 😂

@@ran97396 I agree with you on everything except for why some cars have flutter and others don't. It comes from which type of boost controller you're running. An EBCS will usually flutter due to constantly opening and closing the wastegate to maintain pressure whereas a MBCS will just fully open. It has nothing to with whether you're using ELH's or UELH's.

444whp? Seems like you could make closer to 475, but then I thought about altitude after seeinf your license plate. What altitude was it tuned/dynoed at?

You have a pretty sweet set-Up!. Is this on Pump Gas? At what PSI did you make 400whp? I have somewhat of a similar build, except that i have a rotated gtx3071r and 1200cc and also BC 272 cams, Springs/Retainers... I even have the GESI HO converter except that i put mine in my MidPipe. they work great. Its good to see that someone is making 400 with the .63ar Hotside. I wasnt sure if id have to swap mine out for a .82ar to make 400...My only concern is that it will fall off @5000RPMs like it seems that urs did. I dont know if my Stage 2 Heads will help that or if i will just have to go with the .82ar

I am at altitude so hot side selection is different. The 0.63 really makes more sense up here. This is on E85 with 23psi making 444whp

+Niko Pichardo It has an external wastegate. The dump is just rerouted back into the downpipe downstream, after the catalytic converter.

+Chris Prieto I got mine from AVOJDM . It's a great mod. It improves the steering ratio by being a smaller diameter and it has way better quality materials than stock.

Very reliable, really. I have had some small issues, but all things that would have come up at stage 2 or similar anyway. Nothing major motor, turbo, or transmission wise.

raven 1 evos come with bigger hotsides on their turbos and also have a short turbo manifold for boosting. the ej engine bone stock is less efficient and doesnt use fueling to its potential. its pretty much understood that evo's make easy power but when you go mod for mod the ej slowly starts to shine. it is however expensive as all hell. if i had bought an evo instead of my sti, the same list of parts would have been 6k less.
