I also have a 2005 Tacoma 2.7 liter. Exact same part broke on my truck. Had a shop replace it. Was shocked at the repair cost at the time, but can appreciate it now after this video. Currently have 300,000 mi and going strong. This should have been a recall item.

Just did mine took 4 hours for replacing by-pass pipe, part of the time was looking for sockets and other tools. Sugest a 18 inch extension bar to reach bottom bolts on manfold. They can be reached through inside fender well. Other sugestion get some Saran Wrap cut some one inch squares and use it in between the bolt & socket it'll keep it from falling out of the socket!

I'm working on a 2.7 now. I also agree the vehicle designers need to be made to come out and work on this stuff and then maybe they will realize how stupid they are for doing some things. they could have made it easy for repairs. but no they wanted people to take it to shops where they complain about how hard it is to do also then charge the customer half their anatomy for the repair.
@CoopersAutomotiveRepair

Yes sometimes it seems like they make it very difficult. Shop expenses are so very high the tools equipment the scanners the diagnostic the training the hours and hours of research. I know just in my toolbox probably $150,000. Not counting on the scanners and diagnostic Quitman probably could be another $50,000. Insurance overhead any less can go on and on.

how we doin tim. went for my first ride on my snowmobile the other day up here in snowy ny and after about 30 miles i had an oil line pop off that feeds the crank and cylinder on the right side and she seized up on me. no fun. well i got the engine out and all tore down. waiting on some parts for the rebuild. just the top end this time though. last year the crank seized on me. always something with a 2 stroke lol. gotta love it. anyways cant wait to see the shop\ toolbox tour ive been waiting for buddy. have a wonderful day.

I did all that, the car was running fine, no more leak, except a week later, the car was running a little ruff only until it warms up. I did also get the PO304 code from the engine light, is it possible that the intake warps after 110,000 miles that I have, I installed a new gasket, I think I have a vacuum leak.
@CoopersAutomotiveRepair

This is funny to see...I did mine las week, it took me 1:30 hour, the only part that i remove was the by-pass pipe, it come off from bottom-back of the engine very easy.. in between the intake, don't need take it of.. the hard part is to put the new one back.. just guide it with your fingers in between the intake from the bottom.. didn't break any thing and I do not bleed...

unbolt the throttle body and the intake manifold and pull it out is the only way. you will break all the plastic clamps that hold the hoses and wiring so use big black wire ties to fasten them back up. PCV hose behind the intake is the worst part getting it back on. I use Harbor Freight #37909 pliers to get that back on

That would be a waste of time. It's not the gasket leaking. It's the plastic piece next to the gasket. The plastic starts cracking apart from the heat. You might have heard of heat resistant plastic? It only resists heat for the length of the warranty.

actually changing the fluid regularly with coolant that is not made specifically for asian autos will destroy plastic and gaskets. Even wikipedia tells the evils of american basic coolant, but because most folks do it once in five years, and because most folks are not educated to know that the chemicals in american style coolant soften and damage plastics, the shops just keep using it and your water pump or some plastic pipe starts to fall apart about a year later and nobody knows nothing. Just ask on a forum what coolant should I use in my asian car/motorcycle? first ten guys say, oh anything off the shelf. They are all the same. Yeah right knuckleheads are all the same.
