@@Texarmageddon It feels heavy in low speeds and with load on since it has very high center of gravity. With smaller bikes you can of course feel major difference. But you can also feel major difference between such bikes when compared to touring. FJR is not a city bike.

Agreed, so much better, analogue tells you all you need to know without looking directly at , peripheral is good enough, or a super quick glance, in a rare case, and your good.

Let's be blunt. Its hard to knock a Honda. O only rode a ST a few times. It was just sort of clunking feeling in the steering and handling. Im sure its a user thing. The saddle didn't work for my hips and the Honda Goldwing is impossible for me to ride as it causes my hip to pop/hurt. ST the same and there are other bikes I have this issue with. There are a lot of videos reviews of big sport touring bikes. They are opinions so you have to weed through that. But, you will almost always find an FJR1300 at the very top of the list. Not so with the ST. Maybe because they are not made anymore. But, let me be clear. I don't think you could go wrong with an ST and I think you can find a bargain on a ST at a better price point than an FJR. That said, if you go FJR, you will have the cream of the crop with options and aftermarket support thats so far beyond an ST.

The only time it feels heavy is under 3 mph... imagine how much more heavy it is being used as a police bike

I 100% agree that the term ‘extremely heavy’ was used far too often. In my experience, once it’s moving, it’s a dream to ride. I feel that the FJR1300 represents one of the best values in sport-touring bikes at any price.

Congrats on the new bike, I'm considering this or the st1300.

Glad you are Ok. Anything else is replaceable. I am in the market for a new FJR and currently ride a rebel 500. Hope the deal goes through and it seems like it will be a huge upgrade.

@@sandeepramlakshmanan3646 thank you. I've had this 2nd FJR over 3 years now and I'm still loving it. Although I don't ride it enough these days. I went from riding t=it every day to maybe once a month or even 6 weeks.

My Goldwing & Harley were like 800 lbs :)

Compared to a Harley etc they're normal. But they're around 300kg wet.

It’s 650lbs. Accompanied by 141hp. So it’s fast as hell, 160mph.

I love FJR's, almost bought 1 last year, will probably do so eventually, the Goldwings are nice too, but of course the FJR is a hella performance machine. Peace...

I think he actually said the st is 100 lbs heavier than the fjr, but the fjr feels top heavy. I like both bikes, a bit sketched on the st high-speed wobble though.

Of course I would disagree, I think perhaps it's one of the most top heavy bikes I've ridden in a while. I also thought that the older gen Africa twins felt very top heavy. But if you say that Africa Twin owners get very upset.

I've watched several reviews on this bike and this is the first reviewer that says it feels top heavy. Almost all have said that although it is very heavy that it doesn't feel it. I've never ridden one so I can't say for myself.

@@danlford when you come to and are at a dead stop, you feel it, especially if god forbid you dont land your feet right or some shit lol. At speed she is pretty nimble and the weight issue is almost non-existent.

I never thought this 05 had a hard life. It looks pretty good.

Thanks for the view. I actually didn't see it as negative. it's a great bike, but I often find that owners gloss over these things. I don't particular care about glossing over faults a bike has, and every bike has them. The longer you own a bike, the more you tend to ignore them. And that is a good thing, but i'm one of these guys that always looks for things i don't like. Call it my gift in life.

@@VehicleHunter You should point out the flaws, I found that useful, I think overall, you did the bike justice in this review, though I could see how some might take it as negative, I didn't.

@@VehicleHunter well if I had a dollar for every time you said heavy I could go buy one. Thus review made this bike sound like a fat pig that would wallow around all over the road. Hardly any mention of how the bike handles the weight once rolling, which on a tour bike is one of the most important things 🤷‍♂️

What year? Sounds like the 2nd generation improved the heat issue.

Mine is an 05. I've heard the newer ones improved on the heat problem. I've also heard you can deal with it a bit on the older ones with more shielding on the underside of the tank and in the fairings, but it doesn't stop the frame from getting hot right next to your legs.

Would you pick fjr still over st1300 or Kawasaki 14 if you were looking used 80kms and a price point around 5500. Model year 2003 to 2006??? I'm getting back in after long break. I'm thinking fjr. Thanks

@@danny7954 I can't speak to either of those bikes, but I did a Saddle Sore 1000 on the FJR back in June and she performed flawlessly, the most difficult part was keeping the speed under 90mph. I installed crash bars and highway pegs since my knees won't do more than a couple of hours on anything short of a goldwing these days and the last 600 mile day I did on my 1150GS left me crippled lol. I love the FJR and would recommend it to anybody. If you're looking at long distance touring I've found bar risers, highway pegs and a good saddle are essential. If you just want to blast around she'll do that too. Hope this helps :)

I still prefer the St1300. But the FJR1300 is indeed faster.

I owned a st1300 previously. But despite being heavier it does not feel as heavy. I'd pick the ST over the FJR.

Honda still makes the ST, That's tells its own story...

I just found a 2004 with 15,000 miles and he is asking $3,000. The only problem is it was repainted in gold and has a white Corbin seat. LOL Maybe he'll take $2,500 and I'll use the savings to have it wrapped back in a more respectable color like silver or blue.

Is it worth to buy 2004 model with 50k on the clock for £2500? What about valves, is it hard to do them by yourself. Thanks

If you get attached to bikes then you never look at them the way you should. Yes it's top heavy, extremely top heavy. I compared it to a st1300 which was heavier but yet felt much lighter. The fjr is great, but definatly not perfect.

You seem to think everyone that critiques your critique has “emotional attachment”. I’ve been riding 32 years. I’ve only had my FJR 2 years. Some of the criticisms you seem to have are not design related but due to poor maintenance that affects any bike. “Sticky throttle, faded kill switch”. The ST1100 was a great bike. My buddy owned one. I never noticed a significant weight difference btwn the bags? My garage also contains my CBR1100 as well as my ZRX1200. I love those as much as my FJR. The purchase of a motorbike is not practical, it IS in large part a visceral experience. I grew up on YZF’s, Ninja’s ., VFR’s., and FZR’s. Curious why you praise the ST., which is more touring oriented than the FJR., but criticize the FJR for not being sporty enough., then tell others they are too emotionally invested in their bike? Are you a current or former ST owner?

Top heavy? Yes. EXTREMELY top heavy? Not sure about that. I’m only 5’6 with a 29” inseam and I manage ok at parking lot speeds. My only issue being backing up on an incline. But I have that issue with most bikes. In my FJR group several women ride this bike. They manage it as well. Sure! Mention it’s top heavy. But to be truly objective also mention that weight all but vanishes on the roadway. And roadway performance is primarily why we by sport tourers., not necessarily parking lot speeds. Again. I come from a varied sport bike background. This bike handles very well despite the weight issue. I’m not a moto vlogger so I don’t have any vids., but I implore you to check the vids I mentioned in my prior comment. You might be surprised at its true capabilities.

No insulting. Just being critical. I try not to sugar coat reviews. But often motorcyclists are way to emotionally involved in their bikes to look at it differently.

Wonder if his wife is Debbie Downer?? lol I own the bike and it’s not perfect but no bike is..... I’ve rode a lot of bikes over the years and this is top tier if a person knows how to ride.... he did mention it is stable at high speeds! Shaft driven is very maintenance free plus!!

I currently have a 2006 ST1300 I bought used in 2013 w/ 11489 mi. Honda recommends oil changes every 5000 mi. or yearly. I change mine at least twice a year & it has impressed me. The used oil still looks clean. I currently have 23448 mi. on it now. Not one single issue. It is a blast when you get on it, I do ride conservatively most of the time. I do own 2 bikes, so I get to mix it up. My other bike is a 2002 Suzuki Volusia I bought new. I am not considering getting rid of the ST1300. I hope this will help you.

I like the st1300 a bit more. The tank is lower, engine is weirdly cool and smooth. It weighs more but feels like it weights less than the fjr1300. Both are great bikes. The st1300 also resells for higher and holds its value better. The early st1300 has high speed wobbles, get a later version if riding above 100mph isnt your thing.

Im not brand loyal to any bike. I prefer the yamahas I have had. One of my favorite bikes is the Super Tenere 1200. But there are more hondas for sale and i usually get inexpensive bikes to ride.
