FYI AC Is still blowing cold on both cars. more than 2 years later I did both my cars within the same couple days. If your RKX valve fails I would think you has some Dirt or some contaminates in your system that plugged it up. Sometimes your compressor is putting out metal shavings or you allowed dirt in the system during the install. Be sure to clean everything before you remove that valve. So nothing gets in that hole.

Quick quest so my AC is blowing hot air and after watching this video I want to change the valve by myself. Is it really important to descharge the Freon? And how do I do it without the machine or where can I get the machin and what is called. Cause my mechanic said the compressor is bad but he seems sketchy. I have a CC 2012 sport

Hello @Mike Fn Garage , very helpful video as I have a 2006 Jetta with this exact issue. One question, at 3:24 you say that the 06 is easier than the 09.. but then at 5:00 you make it sound like the 09 is the easier one (and by easier I am guessing you mean the fan being in the way). Which model year is the "easier" one? Thanks!

I can't see where I have already posted on this and I apologize if I am duplicating it. I did this to my 2008 VW Rabbit 2 years ago and it has been fantastic! I followed your directions and got together with my local professional mechanic - and former owner of my VW - to replace this bit as well as recharge the system with the proper amount of refrigerant and PAG oil (Note that there is more than one type of PAG oil!). The results were immediate and the system cools quicker and colder. My mechanic was amazed because he said it had never been this cold in the 10 years that he owned it. It is now two years and 20K miles later and I couldn't be happier with this replacement!

Thanks for this video! I have a 2006 VW Jetta TDI and the AC was blowing somewhat cool on and off intermittently. After changing the solenoid it works like a dream! I left the compressor on and removed one fan blade to change it. Fairly easy for the slightly mechanically minded. The retention clip was a pain because I bent it on the way out but with a little love, I was able to bend it back into place and get it installed. It’s so nice to have a good running A/C again. It’s been years and lots of monies spent at “Professional A/C shops” when doing it myself with your video helped get me there! Note for those attempting this. Take it to a shop get it vac’d then after the install take it back to the same shop and have them remove the moisture and then fill the freon. All in all, it costed me $148 plus the cost of the RKX valve.

Hello, I'm onto my second TDI Jetta, both MK 6s. My first Jetta was taken from me too soon after someone turned left in front of me and totaled it. That AC in that Jetta never got very cold although I had the charge checked, the compressor replaced with a OEM compressor but before that the valve was replaced although I don't remember the brand. None of that worked although it did seem to work a little when I wasn't facing the Sun or it was cloudy or nighttime. My current Jetta a 2011 with similar symptoms, slightly cold air when facing north, or clouds in the sky. In both instances when it was hot out and I was facing the Sun the system could not keep up with the solar heat gain in the car. The only thing I did not do in my first Jetta was replace the coil in front of the radiator. That was the first thing I did in this my second 2011 TDI Jetta. I noticed marginal Improvement in cooling after replacing the coil, I should note the old coil was pretty filled with debris and bent fins, I could see through only about 1/2 to 2/3 of it. Given the symptoms I'm describing what are the chances that the RKX valve will work?

Currently have an issue with my 2010 2.5 2.5 started working intermittently now it completely stopped working. Thought it needed a new charger got a vacuum pump and gauges tried to fill it and low side just fills to around 100psi and doesn’t do anything. Seems like this valve might fix it but. I heard it could be the pressure sensor or even the fan control module. All there were like $20 each of Amazon. Idk if I should just replace them all it just start with one. But idk what one I should do first.

I replaced the valve after doing some intense research about 2 years ago. Finally replaced the valve about 8 months ago and had the same issue. I messed up and put too much freon in the system. Long story short I thought the problem just persisted and just road as is sweating my tail off. I randomly watched this video and you reminded me that it was computer controlled and that the issue did not remain but I fixed the issue and caused the same issue by overfilling. I gave up some freon to the gods and now it works like a dream!!! Thanks so much. This video helped me out because it reminded me about how the system actually works.

@7:20 you described my exact issue I'm dealing with in my daughter's Tiguan. But it's the Low side, for me. if left for a few hours in the summer heat, the Low side will go to ~100psi. Then the AC compressor won't work until you've driven it for awhile. I've replaced the expansion valve, pressure switch, etc.. When I replaced the exp. valve (last thing I've done, I vacuumed down the system, then charge with 660g ~22oz) of R134. Problem still remains. So I was contemplating doing it again and replacing this valve.

How did you deal with the fan being in the way? I'm in the middle of this fix and can't get the old valve out due to the fan obstruction. I've seen some vids where the compressor is detached so it can move to an area clear of the fan, is that what you did?
@sherrym3898

I had the same issue. It is easier to drop the fan than it is to remove the compressor. There are only 4 bolts to drop the fan. I only removed 3 bolts to drop it enough to get the solenoid in. However you need 1/4" ratchet because it's a tight fit. Also the retention clip is a pain to get back on unless the car is on a lift just because of the limited space.

@teravolt6113
@teravolt6113 4 жыл бұрын
The only way to answer this would be remove the valve and check for dirt, since if the filter clogs or dirt manages to get inside, the valve starts misbehaving. If it's dirty, then your compressor is dying, especially if the oil is dirty too. If everything is shiny clean, the valve may be defective. Obviously, recover the refrigerant before pulling the valve out.

Can you just release the freon without a vacuum then change the valve then add freon?
@Mikefngarage

could be done that way but not really good for the ac system. Impurities and moisture can be introduced if it is not vacuum before install freon. People have done it without vacuum and it worked for a while. but not recommended. at 30 inches of vacuum water turns into steam and is suctioned out at a very low temperature that is the purpose.

What are your pressures at when its 103 outside. I just replaced my valve and the pressures are about 45 and 225. The ac is only blowing at 58 degrees inside. But when the outside cools down it get to around 40 degrees at the ac vent. I am thinking that the shop may have over filled it a bit.
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 4 жыл бұрын
sounds about right but If you overfill it it will get cold when at idle then when you drive down the road it will warm up. If you overfill it just push the schrader valve in and let some of the freon out like deflating a tire. drive it again and see if it stays cold. No shop needed.

@Mikefngarage

also if the ambient temperature one that reads outside temp the on the dash is not plugged in or has a bad connection AC will not work. I would start with the valve. The Temp sensor is located behind the Bumper cover on the front of the radiator support. So if your dash reading is intermittent and or not working it might be a bad wire, connection or bad sensor.

My clutch did engage with a faulty valve, but the air was intermittently warm and cold at random. Once I changed the solenoid it started working perfectly. More than likely your blower motor resistor. This controls the speed of the blower motor. Usually once it starts to fail you lose 1 or 2 speeds and a lot of time the AC will only blow full blast. Other times it fails on all speeds. Part typically costs around $20~

No clutch. Permanent drive. When you turn the AC off, the valve short circuits the refrigerant and oil flow inside the compressor so to keep the evaporator from freezing up when the blower fan is off, although it still periodically flows some refrigerant through the AC loop in order to keep the compressor from heating up too much due to friction.

Hello, we had an AC issue in a 2008 Jetta and replaced the valve with the RKX Valve last year. AC worked great until today. Please advise if since this valve allows more Freon into the system, that it may possibly need charged already??? When the dealer was trying to figure out the AC issue before I read about the valve, they drained and charge it twice so it WAS full and newly charged when the valve was replaced. If so, am I going to have to charge the system every year???
