Thanks so much I have a 2010 Nissan Altima one morning I went to go to work and I could not change the gear. I tried everything nothing worked. eventually I had to get a ride to work. I called the car dealership and explained what the problem was. They told me they had no idea what it could be, and to have it towed to them, and they would look at it the next day. So I went on KZfaq to see if anyone else had a similiar problem with their gear locking. Your video made so much sense, I was able to unlocked the gear...once I turn the car off it locked again. so that's when I said let me check the fuse like you suggested, none of the fuse were blown. so I just made sure I push them all in tightly started the car, and I haven't had a problem with it locking again. Also if the gear does lock again I will just pop the lid off, and use my little tool to push down in the hole to release the stick like I did before.Thanks for sharing...God Bless you!

I wish I had seen your video two years ago. My 05 SER Altima had the same issue, the dealer wanred to charge me 500 bucks for a new shifter. So I ordered one from NISMO and put it on myself. Same issue, I was so pissed. I had to rig the new shifter to work by zip tieing the innerlock, which creates an unsafe issue. Especially either little kids. I saw this video, checked the ICC battery saver fuse, it's blown. I changed it, removed the zip tie, and now it works just fine. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for posting! I just used this to fix my girlfriend's car. Last night we were totally lost and finally figured out how to drive around with a screw driver in the little hole. I want to add that with my naked eye the fuse looked good, but my girlfriend could see the break when holding the fuse to the light. This also fixed the interior lights which had gone out at the same time.

We were having the same trouble with our 2005 Nissan Altima, the second method you gave about the fuse did nothing for us - but your first method of sticking a key in the button worked like a charm! Great temporary method of using our vehicle til we can have the problem permanently fixed!

Great video and very helpful. The fuse was ok, but the stop light fuse was not, so the computer would not let the person drive the car, without pressing the button.

I had this same problem and thank you because i watched this video. My interior lights were still working, however I still changed fuse and so far today, my gear is shifting without a problem. I will drive it all day tomorrow just to make sure it is okay. Thank you so much

Just ran into that problem this morning with my shifter not working. Thankfully the car is in a work secured garage and I was able to drive home in my Dodge Challenger. I will check the fuses and see if that's what the problem was. Thanks.

Had the problem on a 2005 Altima. Could not hear the click when I pressed the brake. Checked the bat save and stop light fuse, both checked perfect. However, I changed them anyway and heard the click of the solenoid. Now the shifter has been working fine for several days. Keeping the small screwdriver handy though just in case. Can't explain it but it worked.

question. My Truck shifts when the key is out. ( Nissan Murano) It happened when the battery was dead and I added a new battery. what do you think may be the problem

if the fuse stated does not fix the problem i recommend that you check all other fuses it could be another fuse if not i recommend you use the key trick i was talking about in the video till you can have it checked. i hope that this be your simple fix instead of having to go to the dealer.

Was your problem intermittent with the car not going in gear mine does it sometimes?

The fuse box is located inside the car by the bar. If yours locked I recommend checking all your fuse mine did this only because I was changing my interior blub and there was a spark next thing I knew my gear was locked so do check the fuses I bet one of them is blown.

I checked and replaced Bat. Saver fuse, replaced brake switch as well and it still doesn't always work. Sometimes it works and then other days it doesn't. Has anyone traced the problem to the shift lock module? Any help is appreciated. One way to know if it's your fuse is that you will have no interior lights. I have all interior lights and brake lights so that means my fuses are fine.

I have a 2005 Altima & the gear will go to drive & neutral but won't go to reverse & park, & will only work when it feels like it! It's an on & off problem.. Just got the brake light that was off replaced today & the brake lights are good, & the shifting problem happend again. How do you check the fuses to see if they're bad? I'm having the same problem with my 2004 Nissan Altima. It got stuck a couple of times last week. It wouldn't go pass neutral, but i was able to play with the shifter by moving it back and forth a few times and it eventually went into park and worked fine until yesterday, it started doing the same thing and it would not go pass neutral at all. I discovered there was a shift lock release button, which i didn't notice before, so i pressed it and was able to shift into park. But after that, my car would not come out of park unless i press the shift lock button and now i have to press it every time to shift gears. I'm going to check the fuses later today, but how would i be able to tell which fuse is blown, if that's the case?

my rght side headlight is off and the prnd light wont come on and gear wont shift, Is this a relay problem? I noticed the relays on the side of passenger close to windshield fluid has blown

If a fuse can blow and cause this problem, there has to be an electrical device (relay/switch) that can malfunction causing the problem. So if changing the fuse doesn't work, or it is not blown in the first place, the device (relay/switch) must be bad and needs to be replaced or disabled! Just my 2 cents worth. My daughters car has the same problem & I am about to see what it takes to fix it one way or another. I will post my findings later. :-)

During this process, you will remove the ANTENNA for the Key fob! It's located on the back cover of the center console storage! If you have disconnected this antenna, you WILL get NO KEY DETECTED errors! Disconnect the positive battery post, wait 10 minutes, and reconnect all your connectors, to ensure your KEY FOB IS DETECTED.
