not a water pump replacement video! timing chain tensioner pin ejected into the block. this video shows how i got it out and how not to eject your pin into your block like me

Damm brother good thing you were able to get it out. I've heard horror stories about that. I have a 2011 Frontier 4.0 and I've been watching videos on how to change the WP I know I can do it but a Lil scared of that scenario dropping something in there.

For water pump replacement CHANGE YOUR OIL BEFORE YOU BLEED THE COOLING SYSTEM. I got the engine up to temp to bleed the system. Then I went and got the stuff for an oil change. I remove the oil cap and it was creamy white !!!!! I immediately drained the oil and it was also completely contaminated!!! I drained it changed the oil and filter. Ran it for 3 minutes. Drained it AGAIN STILL WHITE . Went to the store got two more filters and more oil. Filled it again with new filter and 3/4 quart of trans fluid let it run for 15 minutes drained it and it got better. DRAINED SWAPPED FILTER AGAIN ran it for 10 minutes drained it and then did a final filter and fill. I have videos and photos of the whole ordeal. PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT START UNTIL YOU DRAIN OIL AND REPLACE FILTER. There was very light gold flake in the pan. Which means BEARING material. Final oil change I also added a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer. I hope I'm able to get some years out of the engine. Prices are going up for replacements and they all have higher mileage. $2500 for 140k mile replacement engines..

Yes you definitely need to drain oil before start up. when you remove the water pump the remaining coolant in the block dumps behind the timing cover and falls into the oil pan!

Dude I fucked up.... I didn't even drive it. Just let it get up to temp and made sure it bleed. Then did the oil change that alone was enough to do some damage... Fuck man I really like this Pathfinder coming from and exterra. At this point I don't care. Even it if needs a new engine a year down the line I'll put it in. But before I do that I would do the water pump thermostat and timing chains to save the hassle BEFORE I throw it in. All the new shit isn't all it's cracked up to be. This is an honest truck plain and simple.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm getting ready to do this on my son's Xterra. His water pump is leaking bad. What was your diagnosis or reason for replacing yours and did it fix it?

Car kept creeping up to overheating, changed upper hoses, flushed radiator and still kept over heating so I changed the water temp sensor and thermostat. The car still was doing the same thing so I changed the water pump. Haven’t had any problems since then. Took changing the whole cooling system and a flush but made it happen.
