@@mechfix6902 I do feel the headliner is wet in the corner where the a pillar trim attaches. I've actually removed that piece of trim because it fills up with at least 6 ounces of rain water. Passenger side only. I haven't had the time to find some sealant and really tackle this issue yet.

Just a quick note. If your passenger side carpet is getting wet it maybe a disconnected A/C evaporator drain hose. See Tech Service Bulletin AC005-05. I'll see if I can add a note on the video.

On the L rear leak, I would do a thorough job of cleaning the molding channel from mid-car back and clean the seams that you can see with the hatch open. Then with a bright flashlight...look for hairline cracks. Seal any cracks with the mega-black mentioned in the video. A light film of silicone grease can be wiped on the molding with your fingers....but only in the area of the crack repair. I believe the basic issue with the molding security is .....it's 16 years old...and has lost some of the resiliency used to be retained by the clips. I hate to say it, but the best solution would be to use "Amazing GOOP" (Automotive Adhesive) in about four one inch areas to secure the trim. You wouldn't want to use the GOOP adhesive in the crack repair area. The other option would be to see if your local Toyota dealership could order a "new" molding...$$..and auto companies are only required to maintain spare parts for a car for 10 years.

The molding is made of rubber so you don't have to worry about damaging it. The clip is hard plastic but it is basically only holding the soft rubber. If you put some tape on a smaller screwdriver...to protect your paint...you'll find the trim will easily pry from the clip. Actually, the trim comes out a little too easy, if you look at XB's in your area you'll probably see ones with the trim missing.

Mech Fix thanks for that. Need to remove the trim to do some intense detailing. Car is parked outside most of the time but normally protected with a car cover. Just need somebody with experience who has popped these off. Lots of XB’s in my area but all are mostly pristine unlike mine.

Do you recommend replacing any of these rubber parts? I haven't checked for cracks, but I had assumed the problem was from a leaky gasket of some sorts. My headliner gets wet when it rains. Thanks for the video and your continued posts!

You don't need to replace the rubber part/trim piece. The leak is being caused by cracks in the hard seam body compound below the trim piece. Hope the fix works for you.@@danielmendoza4686

Yes, the plastic clips that secure the trim piece are painted over at the factory. Since they are likely glued to the primer...or bare metal, I would guess you would end up with chipped paint if you removed them...then you would have to prime/paint the area. If you take the clips off...you'll never be able to reinstall the trim. I would leave the clips in place.

Luis..I'm having problems getting a decent link established. There is an issue with the "Reel Lube" silicone grease.....it's no longer made. So, Permatex makes a silicone dielectric grease (P/N 22058) and Mega Black (P/N 99839) is made by VersaChem. Both products are available on Amazon for about $13.00 each.

I didn't have any problems reinstalling the molding. Because I'd lubed the molding, I reinstalled it while the silicone was still wet.

@@mechfix6902 update: My XD had a group of small cracks starting on the left rear roof molding, and water was ending up by my spare donut. so after i following your lead here , i stopped it coming in over my tail light. Then last week the right side has decided to take in water. So I've returned to ask you how far back did you start the rtv gasket on this repaiir? I know water has to exit the channel somewhat normally after the repair.

Yes, this fixed the leak with no problems. Be sure to look for and seal all cracks in the area. If you look close in the video you'll see some cracks near the plastic clip that I didn't mention....but I sealed them all.
