do not hang the caliper with its own horse....you may damage the hose and its deadly.......hang the caliper with a cord.

Before you fit the new rotor you should of cleaned it with brake cleaner to get all oil off Which the manufacturer put on to stop it from rusting during storage.

Damn, you need to support that caliper. Tie it to the struts or something. Don't care if it's "light weight" aluminum, it's at least a solid 5 lbs.

I don't like the way you suspend the brake caliper on the tube. the brake caliper must be suspended with a wire on the spring, or another part of the body.

I used a 20lb sledge and the caliper won't tilt more than an inch. The lower pin is so frozen. The pad pins look welded in. Just getting new calipers. Some idiot tore the seal on the lower pin. Its a dangerous situation because the rear wheels don't have brakes and push the car.
@jth1987leb
@jth1987leb 4 жыл бұрын
alb12345672 my recommendation would be to unbolt the caliper bracket. This will allow you to remove the caliper since the guide pin is seized. You want to avoid hitting it calipers are aluminum. Once you have it all off, if you have a vice put the bracket it in it. Put WD40 on the guide pin so it starts going down the bore. If you have a way to heat it up like a burns o matic heat where the guide pins go through. With a lot of patience and time you should be able to rock it free and pull it off. You should be able to clean the guide pin off with 320 paper then go to a finer paper. Clean the bore out the best you can. Try to find need boots. Make sure the pistons compress. If they don’t just get a new caliper and bracket. I hope this helps.

@@jth1987leb The calipers are still on the car, I managed to tilt them so the pads came off(probably woke up the dead). They have some strike marks. The pin definitely is unscrewing at bit as they tilt. If I heat it the caliper has to come off and I have to bleed it. Pads look new because they never engaged. I was actually trying to isolate a noise, had 1 wheel and on the ground noticed the car won't budge. The AWD/TC system should touch the opposite brake and at least make an attempt that is how I knew something is very wrong. It was also horrible in the snow last winter, I thought it was tires. I have the calipers in my cart, I also priced locally hardware (the boots) and its getting close to new calipers shipped. I have another car, so no rush. I can also put it back, was driving like this a while. I've seen seized pins but not this bad. Must be the AL and steel pin. The seal was also torn. This is something to check every year or so. Thanks for the help

You will be fine to drive but you need to remove all the parking brake hardware, pull the parking brake cable through the backing plate and zip tie it out of the way. When I’m doing drum brakes or parking brakes. I’ll work on one side but use the other side as a visual reference

Caliper won’t slide off bottom pin. Any fix for that?
@jth1987leb
@jth1987leb 2 жыл бұрын
If it won’t slide off the bottom pin remove the whole caliper and bracket. I have a newer video posted on how to do that. After I would do one of two things. Buy a whole new caliper with bracket or heat the area where the pin goes into the caliper. Heating that area up will break up the rust. With the bracket in a vice I would turn the caliper back and forth. This will break up more rust and allow the caliper to come off the pin. You will need a new pin and boot. Make sure your local parts store has these parts before doing this

@jth1987leb

Dreads51 that part should be on your car. In the case of this car the customer removed it to free up the wheel and save it for when the parking brake was installed. I’m not sure but I image that part is the same between the is250 and is350. Wouldn’t make since for Toyota/Lexus to make two different parts.
