This is the most comprehensive video I've been able to find on KZfaq. I just completed replacing the pads and rotors on my rear brakes on my 2014 IS350. Of the other videos I watched, no one address the parking brake whatsoever. Kim lays it out quite simply here. For the next viewer, a couple of clarifications: The set bolts required to jack out the old rotor from the hub are M8x1.25. I chose to go with a 50mm length. For the parking brake adjustment "star" sprocket, you turn the sprocket up to shorten the spindle and therefore back off the brake shoes. Obviously, you turn the sprocket down to expand the spindle and push the shoes out to engage with the rotor hat.

And does the handbrake need to be on when you replace the rear brake discs and when adjusting the brake shoe?

one thing im not understading is he says to leave it loose enought for the rotor can spin, cant you just engage the prking brake on and off a couple times once done to get it back to normal?

Great video!! A few things that should be done when removing the rotor is to spray the emergency brake components down with brake cleaner. And put anti seize around the hub to prevent the rotor from seizing on the next time this job is done. And spray/clean the new rotor with brake cleaner and wipe the shipping oil off of it. And do not forget to set the pads after this job is done. Press the pedal several times to make sure the caliper pistons set to place, then check brake reservoir for proper fluid level. Take the car out and get it up to about 45-50 mph then brake kinda sudden down to 5 mph then back up to 45-50 then brake kinda sudden down to 5 mph. Do this 5 or 6 times to bed the pads to the rotors. Try not to brake hard while taking it out until your controlled stops are done. Very important process that most ppl don’t do.

One thing that I am not understanding is if I am supposed to tighten the brake shoe back up to touch the rotor hat or if I am supposed to leave it a couple of turns loose?
@nickcarr898211 ай бұрын
The first two bolts you take off the (caliper 14mm) my bottom 14mm are not coming off.. been working at it. Got one side, drivers side is being ridiculous.

Where is the best place to jack up the rear? The manual says rear diff, but it doesn’t have the flattest surface. I’ve considered jacking from the rear subframe just behind the diff but I’m not sure if I can do that
@AA-os1sg2 ай бұрын
Rear diff tried and tested no issues. Always use axle stands under the sill as a fail safe.

Do I need to release parking brakes before doing the rear?
@kimhoeunchhay4295 Жыл бұрын
yes u do need to release parking brake and also need releasing rear brake shoe adjuster if it need (sometime rotor come out easy without release brake shoes adjuster and sometime rotors stuck )
