Here's how to change the transmission fluid on a tundra/sequoia.
Toyota OEM fluid: amzn.to/3R2YP1m
OEM equivalent fluid: amzn.to/3NuTsVP
Fluid transfer pump: amzn.to/3a2wPKH
Drain plug washer: amzn.to/3y5uAhF
Fill bolt o-ring: amzn.to/3a7T5mv
Socket/wrench set: amzn.to/3bG8gne
24mm socket: amzn.to/3OUXrfq
#ad
To check the ATF level, the transmission fluid temp has to be under 120F. Unscrew the check bolt (1:15 in my video) and the fluid should flow out in a steady trickle. If no fluid comes out, you're low on fluid so add fluid thought the fill bolt. If fluid gushes out from the check bolt hole, it means it's overfilled, so wait for a steady trickle and reinstall the check bolt. Replace the gasket on the check bolt.
OR
Whatever amount of fluid came out from the drain, measure it and put the same amount back in.
Nothing to lose your hair over, it's a toyota transmission not a honda transmission lol

@@Jaxboy86 Yes check the fluid level while the engine is running, I use an app of my iphone that connects to computer port. I open the check plug once the temp reaches 115F and let it adjust accordingly. I put a new gallon of Amsoil ATF in at every engine oil change. My tranny shifts smoother than a gravy sammich.

Thank you. The salesperson told hubs it was a sealed transmission, which I didn't believe for a second (I spent some time as a mechanic), as the mechanic has to have some way to do a simple fluid change on a Toyota, other than dropping the transmission. Having to drop the transmission to change the fluid is something you do for rich people's vehicles (See: Lamborghini oil change).

I have both Toyota and Honda… these transmissions are equal in quality and function. Both super smooth. The difference is that Honda implemented VCM into its vehicles and that kicking in and out of 6 to 3 cylinder destroys transmissions of course.

I did exactly that. That’s why my Honda is now as reliable as a Toyota It fixed my transmission shutter and now runs without any issues.

Is there a cooler that needs to be pinned open when checking the level. I had a 17 tundra that had this. I’m doing this now on a 18 sequoia and don’t see the cooler plunger that needs to be pushed in when checking the fluid level?

I just bought a tundra with 77,000 miles and guy never serviced it. I was planning to drop my pan to clean it out with the magnet. Or just drain and fill every 15k till most of the fluid it replaced. I was also looking to add amsoil signature ATF. Been reading that it's better than toyota ws fluid.
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 5 ай бұрын
Change the ATF asap, you don’t need to change the filter imo, just change the ATF every 30k from now and you’ll be fine. Make sure to use OEM fluids only.

Excellent video. Exactly how I like it. Short and sweet. Do you do this every 30k miles? Or 3 times in a row every 100k. My tundra is approaching 100k. I’ve never changed it. But I’m planning to do this 3 times during the next 3 oil changes, then be good until 200k. That’s what I did on my other Toyota (Yaris). What are your thoughts?
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 17 күн бұрын
Just change it now once and you should be fine. I would change the ATF every 30k miles, simple drain and fill.

Not trying to be rude. But you did all that’s just to reduce the fluid in the pan. Toyota stupid transmission service procedure only matters/are valid only when you do a flush remove all. old fluid and put new fluid. That’s the only way to fill the transmission. 3UR-FBE engine. 12.3 quarts vehicle with tow package. 4X4 3UR-FE engine 11.7 quarts without tow package 4X4 1UR-FE engine 2WD 11.6 quarts 4X4 11.3 quarts transmission fluid. There’s 100s of videos on you tube doing this wrong and don’t realize. even Toyota tech. But for some reason the transmission still works. No issues for some people. Here the bottom line. you can’t fill the this transmission from the pan nobody in this world can fill a 2007-2021 tundra from the pan. There’s a set fluid in the pan. 4-5 quart. You drain yours and 3.5/ 3-1/2 quart came Out. You put back the same amount. Which is correct, And then you reduce the 3-1/2 quarts to almost 3 quarts. You’re smarter than that sir. Is that correct, All of these top mechanics on KZfaq doing the same thing. That’s why I do thing my self , and less it’s cheaper to do some maintenance at dealership. than me buying tools I’m only going to use once. then to the shop. I was looking for trany drain bolts. The 1 on my truck tundra V8 all rust. And ur video pop up, I wasn’t on KZfaq at the time. So I didn’t single out ur video. and said I’m going to comment. I still change fluid 4quarts 3.5 came out normal. Then I jack up front of truck and got to 4 quarts. Put back 4 quarts and I’m done no procedure. The fluid was dark brown and purple. I’m going do a flush. before the fluid gets really black. This is the first service 57,000 miles and the fluid been like this from 20k I’m the second owner. No towing. no off roading When I hit 60k then to the sealership to the flush, I could just pull the return and input line. at the front of truck and do this myself. Then buy 13 quarts, It’s cheaper at the sealership. The other shops are more expensive unfortunately.
