2007 Chevy Cobalt Key FOB Repair

5 Button Key FOB not working for a 2007 Chevy Cobalt. Tried to Reprogram/Link them, but no luck. Took them to a Locksmith who "rebuilt" them for $10/each. Just need a new rubber pad so the switches would make contact again.

Hey Brother, you totally rock! I came so close to getting ripped off by a local repair shop to repair my key fob. The pads were out on my fob but your vidio saved me. THANK YOU!!

Mine did this so I put aluminum foil on them and works like new

I just bought a 2010 Cobalt at auction, didn't come with any fobs. This one wants you to go to the dealer so they can basically hook a tool to the OBDII port which tells it to begin the learn process. I just wanted to mention - AutoZone now sells fobs for this, around $83, and the one you want includes a separate little box with it. The little box in essence is a "script" which when plugged in to the OBDII port runs the commands to initiate the learn process. Smart! I have a fob now.

Thanks for this info. There are so many variations of what you have to go through to get a replacement FOB, many leading you to an expensive visit to the dealership. I recently lost my FOB to my 2005 T&C van. Went to a Locksmith shop and they said I would need to get a code from the dealer. I called the dealer and they said I needed to come in with the registration and ID and for $10 they would give me the code, or for like $200 get me a new FOB. I had the locksmith cut me a key to have as a backup, which they were able to program/link for like $60 total. No buttons, but at least I have a backup now. Why so complicated????? Theft protection on Radios is even more frustrating, as who wants to steal a 10+ year old factory radio, but one from a junkyard won't work without a dealer getting involved.
