I am indeed very happy with it and I am happy to not have to stress so much about it getting stolen again.
**UPDATE - PLEASE READ** 5/2023 - The new Walker Catalytic Converter that I installed after this cheap one shown in the video is still working great, but I have heard that even the aftermarket catalytic converters are getting stolen, so I just ordered a Cat shield from MillerCat to protect it.

**UPDATE - PLEASE READ** - 1/2023 - The check engine light came on about 6 weeks after installing this cheap catalytic converter shown in the video. Although I live in California, my plans were to give this car to a family member that lives in a state where smog is not required.
After a change of plans, I decided to keep the car here in California so I just put on the California C.A.R.B. approved Aftermarket Walker Catalytic Converter 82895 (link below) 2 weeks ago so it can pass smog and I can keep it here in California. This also requires visiting a Smog referee station. You need to go to www.asktheref.org to make an appointent to obtain a new label for the vehicle for smog check. You will need the following as listed on their website:
License Plate Number and/or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
Specific reason(s) you are seeking a Smog Check Referee inspection
Vehicle Inspection Report from your most recent Smog Check
Engine Family Number (EFN), if calling for a Catalytic Converter
Vehicle Code(s), if clearing a law enforcement citation
DMV issued sequence number for a Specially Constructed Vehicle
Additional documentation that pertains to your issue (such as repair or aftermarket part receipts)

Here's a quick video showing how I replaced our stolen catalytic converter along with the other parts that were taken and/or damaged. I am still considering welding some rebar to make a cage or other anti-theft options such as a shield underneath so this won't happen again.
If it hasn't happened to you and you have a 2003-2007 Honda Accord, you might want to look into protecting it before it does happen as these are being targeted for the valuable metal inside the converter.
I am sorry if this already happened to you and that's why you are watching this video, but I hope that it will be helpful if you decide to replace/repair it yourself.

Gotta come back to say THANK YOU! Thank you for your previous replies, this video was a lifesaver and explained perfectly. Got quick estimates of 8-$1000 for the CAT alone without inspecting the underneath of my car. I ended up spending $680 for parts and $140 labor putting me at $820 for everything! Only thing I had to do was source the gasket and flange repair pipe to match with the end outlet of the Walker which they welded for me. You are the MAN!!

This happened to my 7th gen too a month before you posted this video, the thieves used a signal jammer to prevent my ring cameras from recording, and they also stole from my neighbor who also has a 7th gen.

Same exact thing happened to my 04 accord. Cut off the down-pipe and cat. $200 that i shouldn’t have to spend all because somebody doesn’t want to get a job. I do like your idea of spray painting and engraving the cat. Was thinking of doing the same thing.

Great video. Any issues with using the Denso downstream O2 sensor while keeping the OEM upstream sensor? The askref web recommends using an OEM O2 sensor with after market CAT, so don't want to get check engine light coming up. The Densor part used in the video says doesn't seem to be CA emission compatible when I searched on few sites.

so the same happened to me. I also live in Los Angeles CA, my question is when getting the DMV issued sequence number for a Specially Constructed Vehicle. Does that mean that the car goes from clean tittle to constructed/rebuilt tittle? and whats the process obtaining the DMV issued sequence number for a Specially Constructed Vehicle.

This doesn't change the vehicle's title status at all, it's just a piece of paper that they will give you at the smog referee station that you need to bring with you to the smog check location. They refer to this as getting a new 'label', but shouldn't change the title status at all. So sorry this happened to you, Best of luck with everything. Take care, -Dan the Fix it Man

3-way is the amount/process of neutralizing and converting 3 of the following pollutants: CO (carbon monoxide, HC (hydrocarbons), & NOx (nitrogen oxides$. Not sure about your vehicle-however, if it happens to be dual-exhaust I would think so..

Can you help clarify which variant of the universal flange is correct? Your amz link loads the oval one which doesnt seem right. What is od and id measurements? Do you have the specs on the sleeves as well? Thank you

The link shows an oval and a triangle flange option. The one I used was the triangle option with the three bolts. It was the 2” diameter. The other pieces were just 2” sleeves from O’reilly auto. Hi and thank you for this video. I wasn't jackeded but live in upstate NY and my exhaust needed replacing. My '07 Accord looks like a barnacle encrusted shipwreck from underneath- nothing like your pristine CA car! I've got a question regarding the two spring bolts holding the flex/down pipe to the header. Do you recall if they torqued down tight? I know the springs are not supposed to be too tight, but my bolts thread in all the way out the top of the header flange and never get tight. It's like I've run out of thread. These are genuine Honda bolts and doughnut gasket from the dealer where I was uncerimoniously robbed! The bolts don't pull out and the flex pipe seems all the way on, but I expected them to tighten somewhat. Thanks for your thoughts.

I am pretty sure the spring bolts did tighten all the way down without spinning. It sounds like what youre are going into may be stripped.

I bought the 3 bolt triangular flange in the description and it doesn’t line up with the end my my walker 82895 cat, do they sell those pieces at local stores or will a muffler shop sell me a piece that fits?

I do have some questions, what diameter is that universal flange and is there another name for it? Any link? What is diameter for honda JDM exhaust pipe? need pipe sleeves and clamps for the size. Since im in CA I need CARB compliant instead of EPA comp. And they dont converter bolts and nuts, where can I get them?

Hi David, All of the links to what you need are in the description. You will want to order the 'triangle' shaped 2" flange, and it comes with new bolts and nuts and a gasket. The Honda exhaust pipe is 2" diameter. I also included the link to the Walker California C.A.R.B. legal converter that I installed after the cheap one shown in this video failed. Flange (your amazon link) holes doesnt align perfectly with the walker carb ca converter, bolts can be inserted but they are angled. The converter didnt come with bolts/nuts/washers and I am still 3 sets short where can I get em?

@@elnum7 I’m so sorry it’s not lining up…, the flange I got the bolts lined up perfectly with both the cheap converter and the Walker one. They have a few different options I am guessing on that link for that flange. You might try a local auto parts store to source that flange, like an O’reilly or a Napa. They should have the bolts too. $360 for aftermarket CAT shield is pricey. I added comprehensive with no deductibles after my theft experience. It's surprising how inexpensive this coverage is for 04 Accord. Figure since it's a spare car, if theft occurs again, I'd have insurance pay for all of it. Maybe even put an OEM cat, depending upon how much they assess the car.

I ended up using the bolts that came with the flange that I bought on Amazon for the one side of the converter, and the cheaper aftermarket converter I used came with some bolts as well... I don't think the walker aftermarket cat came with bolts though. I am sure you could find some that would work at your local hardware or autoparts store. The front flex pipe that was cut off still had the two bolts with springs on the car so I was able to re-use them. Thanks for watching! Best of luck to you! -Dan the Fix it Man

Any check engines lights with the new Walker cat??? I live in California as well and have purchased the Walker Cal Approved Cat.......believe I read on their website 5yr/50k mile warranty. Mine wasnt stolen but got p0420......will replace cat and new o2 sensor at the cat.........later in a month (lack of funds) will replace air to fuel o2 sensor at the top (might as well get all new sensors and cat) a bit nervous only paying $400 but its ridiculous to pay $2,000 out of pocket........half of what the car is worth......but my guess is this Walker aftermarket must not have as much of those precious metals.........the whole state ref stuff seems like a hassle though. Do you have to go to state ref??

No check engine light yet, I am still happy with the Walker Cat…and yes, you really do need to do the referee thing. My smog check guy is the one who told me about it. It was quick, and they didn’t charge for it. (That was a nice surprise) And I agree with you in that I couldn’t justify the cost of the OEM converter on this older car. The first cheap Chinese cat I tried felt lighter than the Walker one, and only lasted 6 weeks until the check engine light came on for po420. I am sure you’re right in that the Walker one doesn’t have as much valuable metal in it compared to the original cat…and it may not last as long as an oem one, but at the price difference, even if it lasts a few years, I am good with that. the cuts look like they were made with a pipe cutter and not a saw I have done a lot of research on how they do this they sometimes use a pipe cutter because it makes less noise I know this becaue I have seen this done this way

Oh my! Glad they didn't get your converter! I just jacked it up under the pinch welds under the door. (You can see where the jack should go). I think I also put jack stands under the subframe. Just make sure it's nice and solid and secure before doing any work underneath. Best of luckwith it.

Yes, I am sure they were professional thieves. It happened to several cars in our neighborhood on the same night. I believe they were all older Honda Accords.

It’s about $1000 with aftermarket parts, and around $3500 with the OEM Honda parts. You can save a few hundred dollars on labor if you do it yourself. There are several recycling companies that buy them and I read that some auto repair shops will (illegally) buy them because they are able to sell them to the recycling companies in larger quantities. I just needed something to work temporarily, because I was going to give it to my daughter that lives in another state, and the OEM ones were out of stock everywhere. But it didn’t last long at all…just about 6 weeks then the check engine light came on again. My plans changed and I decided to keep it in California, so I found the Walker one that is C.A.R.B. approved on Amazon and it has been working fine ever since. I also had to go to the smog referee to have it inspected and a new label has to be made about would pass smog. Kind of a hassle, but it passed. I wonder if that will be retroactive as well since the smog referee station already approved the aftermarket converter for our car and it already passed smog check. If they say that it needs to be OEM the next time I need to smog it, I will probably sell it out of state. Thanks for the info.

the older honda accords have a bulls eye on them if you dont have a cage or plate covering them you have to get a anti theft devise or they will be gone im in ny and ny and cal has the highest theft rate what I dont understand is I see so many mechanics who drives these cars and dont have a cat cage there is no excuse to not have one peiord I have been a mechanic/tech since I was 16 and I have been at 5 shops priv tire shops and dealers and I tell every one that I see with a prius or honda you better get one insurance companies will help you pay for it it is worth every penny

@@ShyKng-yo4gx yes, after this happened, we added it to all of our cars. I still wish I would’ve done something like the cat shield ahead of time…just to not have to deal with this problem. The hassle and time alone would’ve been worth it… I am also kind of concerned that the insurance company would just total the car because of the low valuation. I’m gonna play it safe and install a cat shield on it and hopefully I never even have to think about it again. Take care, Dan the Fix it Man
