To sum things up my guess is overtime that plastic spacer migrated up to the point where It created too much of a gap for the arm lever to act against. So to fix this problem all that has to be done is to push the plastic spacer backdown into its place. It wouldn't be a bad idea to superglue it or zip tight in place to avoid it from happening again. To join the 2 pieces of the door that were separated during the fix I used super glue which held up nicely. Removing the entire Door is optional but it would make things way easier and only takes 2 Philip's screws and a plastic lever that needs to be popped of to remove it completely. Also a good time to change the cabin air filter while it is accessible.
