Love that worked for you. After a few months fixing it this way, eventually couldn’t bring it back. I took it to the dealer and they said that is a very well known bug, and they have a 9 years extended warranty on it to replace it. It usually takes 3 days for them to do it. In my case, I was out of warranty and end up paying $1600ish for it. Finally my car give up last month (March2019) at 328,000 miles. ABS pump failure that cost $1k+ to repair, and my car was worth on CarMax $1K, so I sold it. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the video. My car is a 2008. I've reset the battery, turned on auxillary, flashed lights three times and started the car. Nothing has worked. Any other suggestions?

I remember getting the recall noticed to fix the issue 9 years (?) ago. At the time, I did not have the issue so the dealership told me they won't fix it. I regret I believed them at the time.

A hybrid mechanic told me it is a bad Combination Meter…cost to remove it, repair it, replace it about $500 I’ve seen several videos on sash disassembly and replacing the Combo Meter (quite involved, but if you take your time looks like it can be done. Problem with buying a refurbished one is the mileage on odometer won’t be accurate.

Not permanently. Just keep the switch on button pressed till turn off. You can try deprogrammed the key and use it manually. I never tried that way, though, and no longer have that car.

You can fix the problem by changing the 16 v 100 nf capacitor inside the cluster.

Press the turn off button and keep it press till goes off, then turn the car on and off and should work normally, if doesn’t, turn it off and let it rest and then do the procedure again. Hope it helps. BTW, I end up switching the dashboard at the dealer. It’s a known error for them. You can make the decision based on year and miles. I put 327K before the ABS pump fail and it was to expensive to repair it. May be you can get a used one, but will reflect the miles of the car that you are switching from. Hope it helps!

@@jmoya8844 Your reply motivated me to call around for quotes. I find a place near me that fixed the issue for $225. They forewarned me that the repair can caused cosmetic cracks in the top dash area and that is what happened to mine. Blame it on Toyota and aging plastic parts. I accepted that since my 2006 240K miles Prius is beater car. I just wanted to have it run a few more months so I'm not rushing to buy a new car.

Definitely can attest to this. Bought a 2nd hand prius and can confirm this is the worst car I've ever drove. There's always new problems popping up every day and this is coming from someone who has bought a lot of 2nd hand cars and had no problems with them before.

Buddy, I put 327k miles to that car, replaced the breaks only once, extremely cheep to maintain, in California at 3.80 pre galón I fill up the car with $30 and last me 400+ miles. New tires Michelin for $340 that will last 60k+ miles. Even if you pay the replacement of the dashboard (where the bug is) at the dealer, you come up ahead $$$ best car ever

L Rodriguez yes, at the time, the car was worth 2K. For 1600 I was able to have a car for another 2 years, replacing the car, would it create a debt that will carryover for way longer. I use that car for Uber till the ABS pump broke. The car had 320k miles and was worth 1k, the car was still giving me 45 MPG”s. I also replaced the catalytic converter for 200 (rebuild one) and the 4 fuel injectors for $350 (rebuild) Car was very solid. Hope it helps.
