@26sandBetter2 жыл бұрын
If you don't have a air hammer. Just drill them until you get about half way thru the ball joint. I use a small drill bit first then a 3/8 I believe. Just make sure you center the first hole and they will come out. Don't sit there beating forever with a hammer. Use pb blazer to help loosen the rivets. If your drill bits are worn get some fresh ones. It's definitely worth your time.

That’s the only way without that snap on hammer drill!

Thanks for posting this. It's the only video on YT for a 2WD Silverado with the riveted lower ball joints. P.S. - I see the Sway Bar Links are also shot. I hope you replaced them too!

Took me all day to do one years ago . Torch, air hammer. I tried everything. Maybe it was the Ohio rust that caused the headache. Now I have to do my 04 Florida truck. Can decide on doing this method or just replacing the whole lower control arm being that I don't have air tools anymore

Awesome video! Just a question. I've always been taught that bolts go facing downward if possible in the case the nut backs out, at least its still hanging in there. Was the bolt direction install preference. Or any real thought behind it?
@ronwilliams20423 жыл бұрын
In the case of a ball joint asy it won't matter what direction they face if they come loose because they will be forced apart by the weight of the vehicle. As for direction, I installed them stud up because having the studs facing down would allow them to possibly catch onto something.

Working on Chevy trucks is kind of fun because it’s so easy. I’m not saying you’re not tired at the end of the day, I’m not saying it isn’t a challenge I’m just saying it’s fun because a guy like me could do ball joints, whereas with other vehicles, an impossibility.

I need to do this on my 06 Silverado 2wd with 180K miles (as well as the rest of the front suspension and steering bushings)... sadly I do not have a big enough drill or air tools so it stays bad for now...
@bradyh.38793 жыл бұрын
Have you seen what happens when they fail. If you got the money buy the tools or have it done. If it breaks it will be much more $$$$. Be replacing alot of suspension parts and maybe body damage.
