Күн бұрын

We'll start by rebuilding the reverse input drum of our 4L60e, disassembling it, reassembling it with new parts, and checking clearances. Then we will clean the transmission case and replace the rear case bushing as well as a few other tasks. Finally we will pull the 2-4 servo apart and reassemble it with upgraded Corvette servo parts. Lots to get through in this episode!
Timeline of filming: June 26th, 2018 - July 9th, 2018

I'm absolutely blown away by how complicated a 4L60E is!!! I rebuilt the 5R110W in my Ford diesel truck and it was nowhere near this complicated. I was actually surrprised by how simple it was. And it has 6 forward gears even though it only uses 5. Great work my man, great work!

KZfaq DIY videos usually drive me nuts, too much time spent with nonsense talking. Not here, straightforward no banter, great camera angles and great close up explanations. I appreciate your work. Rebuilding my second 4l60e, the first time I danced between videos annoyed till I found this series, this time went directly here.

You ought to see inside of a 5R110W out of a Ford diesel truck. It's much more simpler!!! I was actually surprised at how simple it was and it's got more gears than the 4L60E...

I wanted those who watch, but read comments to know, the Corvette apply piston is a better part than the original and commonly reasonable. For a higher apply pressure, I choose the Superior brand Super Hold Servo and 4th apply piston kit that comes with a billet cover. It has 30% more apply pressure than the Corvette type. Not bag or good, it comes down to how much does a guy want to do or spend. It is the old saying; “It cost money to go fast, how fast can you afford to go?” Great job again.

To anyone watching this, please be very cautious when installing the low-reverse piston and air-checking it. You cannot air-check the low-reverse piston without the steels, clutches and center support. If they are not installed during the air-check, you can tear the seals and cause very small leaks around the perimeter of the piston. This is best seen with ATF around the edge, and applying air pressure.

So far in the series, everything has seemed to be okay. What was the culprit of the issues? Or will we have to find that out in one of the next videos?
@FuzzyDiceProjects
@FuzzyDiceProjects 5 жыл бұрын
Problem wasn't with the transmission, but the transfer case (which we will rebuild after the trans is back together). Rebuilt the transmission since it was out and had the parts anyway and it would make a good video series.

Those lines are actually raised areas, leftover imperfections from the casting process. Pretty typical to see on aluminum parts like this in areas that have not been machined, nothing to worry about!

Very nice! I'm surprised you didn't grind the 4 grooves in the plate thats held in by the snap ring like the Transgo kit tells you to though. It's also a very common upgrade. I guess the corvette upgrade negates the need for that?
@FuzzyDiceProjects
@FuzzyDiceProjects 5 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I had never heard of that before! Just searched around, appears some instructions have you do it because it helps with the speed of drainback and can be important when a valvebody shift kit is installed. Will have to remember that when I end up doing a more performance oriented 4L60E build in the future, thanks for bringing it up!

Never had that happen! The sheets are quite hardy and plenty strong for installing pistons. If the film folds it gets crease lines, but it's easy enough to just grab another piece.

ooc how many hours did you spend rebuilding this transmission?
@FuzzyDiceProjects
@FuzzyDiceProjects 5 жыл бұрын
Didn't really keep track of everything, but there was a timelapse recording running for the vast majority of the labor. Doing the math, it looks like it was running for around 32 hours, so that should be close to correct. Of course, the time would at least be cut in half if not for filming the entire process.

Just my tuppenceworth…….. but would it not have made sense when installing bearings during this entire rebuild to stick them in a freezer first and perhaps also have done a bit of localised heating of the housings with a high powered heat gun of the type you use to burn off gloss paint on woodwork. Maybe less bashing and banging would then be the outcome. We Scotsmen are a lazy bunch of engineers you see!
@FuzzyDiceProjects
@FuzzyDiceProjects 5 жыл бұрын
You are right and freezing would probably be worth a try! Have done that for other press fit parts but never really tried it for bushings like these. Heating the case/other parts should help as well!
