I just bought a 2007 K1200GT last month and I love it! 16K miles and it was just serviced. I also have the color matched top case. Very smooth and fast bike. Thanks for the review.

I just got a 2008 k1200GT. so far so good. just did my first oil change on it. Are you doing your own maintenance?

GSXR1300X I’ll do what I feel comfortable with - plugs and such. The manual does not seem to include information on maintaining the liquid cooling system. Have you discovered the same? What tires are you running? Do you like them? Best of luck.

@@joewalworth8586 Currently the bike has Dunlop RoadSmart III's. I don't have much experience with them yet. However, in the past I've preferred the Michelin PilotRoad series. Unfortunately i don't have a manual for it yet. Seems that you have to get a CD/DVD directly from BMW. I wonder why BMW doesn't allow for digital download; get with the times BMW. geeezzzzz. Based on all the KZfaq vid's ive seen you can get a vacuum setup from harbor freight to pull the coolant into the system. One tool that i recently bought was the GS-911 reader. I think its a must have for doing your own maintenance.

Nice review, Nomad. Earlier this year I bought my first BMW, a 2004 k1200rs (with only 19000 miles) which is very similar to the GT but with less electrical gadgets to go wrong. If I ever upgrade, that will probably be a BMW too 'cos I'm definitely hooked on that smooth, powerful motor. But it does seem to me that every new BMW model is heavier than the last, so I might just keep this one ( I did manage to pick it back up after it rolled off the sidestand) and with the newest K1600's being much heavier, my 66 year old bod might not be up to the task. Good luck, and keep it in one piece!

What a beauty and that looong wheelbase is impressive. Interesting they got rid of the brake assist servo by 2008. I need like 10 bikes lol.

Yup got the exact same bike 2008 K1200GT/SE bought it new in March of 08 had 3 fuel strip replaced by dealer & numerous other recalls in bikes early life & it’s packed in again 🤷‍♂️ bike has approximately 27k on clock !! But I love her 😍 in my 60’s now so we’ll grow old together

Fuel strips are a BMW corporate weakness. Replaced mine, new one failed within about 3 or 4 months. So I gave up and just fill-up on the basis of miles covered (every 200). No other problems.

Nice review, what make wind deflectors do you have on the sides? And btw, you switched off the ASC with the button. It's on by default and the yellow light indicates it's off, or malfunctioning!

Good review, just wondering if there might be much difference between the K1200GT and the K1300GT?

Hi John, apart from the obvious 100cc and an extra claimed 8bhp,from what I understand not that much . The bodywork has had minimal revisions also. On the downside there have been plenty of reports of switchgear failing and needing replacement. At least the fuel tank strip sensor issue appears to have been fixed with reports of better fueling also. Overall though the GT1200 or 1300 is an excellent long distance mile munching touring motorcycle with some serious get up and go when the mood takes you.

Esta é uma ótima bicicleta de turismo para uma ou duas pessoas. é importante manter o cronograma de manutenção em bmws. procure o histórico de serviço antes de comprar. mas como um muncher rápido e confortável, com boa economia de combustível, é muito bom
