This is a longer video and I was comtemplating on editing the video into a shorter format. But as Alex points out, there is no short cut or easy way of disecting a properly builit car; all of these components work together. There are some very good details of Alex's setup and Thank you again to Alex for sharing all of your trial and error.

Been patiently waiting for this one! Alex seems like a great dude, and I love to see the details of this car. Keep up the videos! This format is so much cooler than forgettable Instagram posts with short captions. I've actually got a Sub2 X-pipe on the way for my M3. Stoked that people like Alex are still producing new and exciting things for this aging platform, it really is a special one and you can't buy anything like it today outside of maybe a GT3 (at about 5 times the entry cost). Good stuff!

@@andrewrossnagel9433 ended up going down a somewhat "generic" path with an LS swapped E36. I considered an M2 along with other options but having a car that communicates with hydraulic steering and lighter weight is something I still value. If I do end up getting a modern turbo car for track use it'll be a GR Supra.

@@andrewrossnagel9433 still in the process of building. Hopefully around 20K when It's all set and done, you can build them cheaper but I'm taking the extra step of WPC and cryogenic treating everything that I can. I intend to keep this car for many years to come so the more rebuilds and intrusive maintenance I can avoid, the better. This cost doesn't include the Sikky swap kit or Wiring Specialties PNP Harness. These swaps are more expensive than people realize but it'll also be twice as expensive if you were to modify a vehicle to this extent on a modern chassis.

3rd e92 trackbuild video i watch from USA. are fully welded cages illegal in the USA or why is noone putting in a cage. all i see are those "half cages" and they are for show only. i hope u guys will never have a rollover on track. in germany every half decent car has a full cage, especally old cars like e46 / e92

Thank you for watching and leaving a very important comment. Alex mentioned this on the video but he is planning on doing a full cage. I know in Germany, it is very difficult to modify cars in general to be street legal, but in US, some of these cars are/were driven to the track. With that said, Alex is now doing a full cage and James paick (blue e92 I covered) has been converted to full cage. I’m sure Mike’s speedhole e92 will be converted eventually as well.

There are plenty of track cars in the USA with full weld in cages... a lot. :)

Not entirely true. It is 100% illegel and unsafe to drive with a full cage in your car on the street. Just as it's insanely dangerous to drive in a full caged car without a helmet. There are different classes of time attack here. You absolutely need a full cage if you're doing wheel to wheel racing, but in time attack, some classes are even enthusiast spec, with factory seats, factory seat belts, no cage at all. Others are street or clubsport type classes, with street driven / track prepped vehicles. In these cars, you'd want a fixed back seat, but in order to run a fixed back safely, and to meet class rules, you'd need a 6-point harness. You need a proper harness bar to attach the harness too, so rear half cages, typically bolt-in, are quite popular. You think this is an American problem, but the cage I run is from the UK. In the UK and all of Europe, clubsport builds are quite popular, even from BMW themselves, they sell the GTS with a bolt-in cage... And a GT3 RS with a factory cage option, is that for show too? These provide a level of form and function, and when designed correctly, can certainly add rigidity as well as a safe way to run a 6-pt harness and fixed back seat.
