The Ninja 250r For Sure. an amazing bike to start out with, curb weight is great, handling is awesome, performace is decent.

250r's are discontinued in the USA. It's been replaced by the 300 so used 2008 Ninja 250r's should be less than $1500, but lots of people both Dealer and Private Owners are selling it over $2500. It's fucking bullshit.

n3rdbear The dealer near my house is selling a 2009 ninja 250r is $3700 with tax :( I found a seller who is giving his away for $2900 which is a steal to me! XD

I rode my 07' Ninja 250 for the summer over the ferry system in Seattle. Summer job at Federal Center South. I love it. Extremely agile, and very responsive. It's not going to beat a liter bike off the line, but I took it up to Bellingham and was doing 80, quite comfortably.

Spent a lot of hours doing tedious maneuvers on a 250r today for my motorcycle safety course. This bike is AWESOME. Ive spent quite a few years on motorcycles, all types.. & For what this bike has to offer, its amazing. Its the absolute best bike for entry level riders, or someone who just wants a great commuter. Its even comfortable for me, being 6'8''. Not ideal, but comfortable enough for me to enjoy it

I ride the 2007 ex 250 here in los angeles and I already clocked in almost 9000 miles on it,I commute with it to work everyday.its the best bike for the money,specially considering surging gas prices.I get 190 miles for a mere $12.I highly recomend it.

The kawasaki 250r is SO underrated!! Just cause they're not super fast they get talked down upon but I think the kawasaki 250r is 1 of the best motorcycles ever built!

Definitly, this bike is an excellent starter, its light, nimble, and can jump up to speeds pretty nicely. The only thing you would be concerned about, is growing out of it after the first season, (trust me after you push a bike to its limits you always want something bigger) depending if you want to re-sell.

Nice video, I'm 22 and I'm going to learn how to ride a bike soon and was thinking about first bike ideas, I like the sporty looking and sounding ones so this caught my eye. I love the look of the CBR 600RR but I heard that's a bad idea for first bike because of things like the riding position et. At about 2:18 what does he mean by the 'rake' or something?

@Superwoman2012 Not a problem I'm glad I could help, like I said when I first started I made some errors that were totally avoidable but without experience I made the mistake. If you are interested in the Ninja 250 line I would recommend the 2008 model and up. The earlier models look like garbage and don't even qualify for the sportbike genre. Make sure to get some good gear to it may be a hassle to wear but in the end you will be glad that you are wearing it. Again glad to see your enthusiasm

Hey J.. I hear what you saying however. what would you recommend for a new rider. I did the motorcycle course on a 250 but i feel like if I jump on 600cc that will be too much. I also feel like if i go for a 250 i'll be tired of it quick.

agreed. taking a rider course makes for cheap insurance, is well worth it, and youll learn alot about power bands, revs, etc

you really cant any better of a beginner bike!! I had a gs500f as my first bike, i have an SV1000s now. i would not be as good of a rider if i woulnt have gotten this small of a bike to start out. im a speed freak, i took my gs500f to the max, which is only 118mph, the second day i had it or had ridden in general. if i wouldve bought a gixxer 600, id be dead. this bike is 100% perfect for a beginner! and for 3500 bux for a brand new bike, you canot beat it.

@rousp1 Yup, but i just found out that in the UK we are only alowed a 125 untill we are 21, because some people are not mature with them :( also did you get a car license first?

@rousp1 would a 250 be a good start for me a beginner, i was messin with my buddys 250 dirt bike and i was able to hold it up barely but i was good, thing is im 140pounds would in not be smart to go more then 250?

hows the seating position on a f2/3 also whats the diff between f2 and f3? is it more like upright sitting liek a 250 or more leaned forward?

On top of that, the 250 doesn't bite your head off if you misjudge a corner a little bit. If you want to play around on a twisty backroad, the Ninja 250r is a sweetheart.

Do they sell the special edition everywhere? Does it cost more as well? I've also seen a black one with copper coloured suspension, calipers and brake disks...o: Is that also part of the special edition? Any who, this is an awesome bike. :P

It's usually not important to know the exact gear you're in. Shift up or down to stay in the power band, and get all the way back to first when you come to a stop.

Ok finally someone who knows the Canadian weather and the market ... I have been trying to decide which one to focus on Ninja 250 or CBR 125. I am a complete newbie when it comes to bikes cuz I have always been a freak about cars but I am planning on getting my Ontario motorcycle Licence in Summer 2009 and want to start off slow as long as I can use it as a commuter bike on the highway i will be a HappyMan Which one would you recomend considering I am a 6foot guy Any feedback will be appreciated

Okay I'm going to be honest, I've NEVER even been on a motorcycle but it's always good to try new things right? So yeah, my question is would a Kawasaki Ninja be a good bike for beginners? I live in a pretty small town in Washington and it has lots of back road too and my cousin who rides motorcycles has a road in front of his house that goes straight for a few miles and there are never any cars going through the road since he lives out of town so maybe that could be a good place to practice?

Is there a custom parts market for this bike? I am just getting into sportbike riding and I think this is the perfect first bike for me. My dream bike is a Suzuki GSX-R, and I was going to start with a 600 since it was the smallest, and I tend to push the limit with everything so I don't want to start with a huge bike until I have years of experience. Then I saw this and it's perfect because it's small but it still LOOKS like the big boys, and that styling very much appeals to me.

Break-in period depends on the bike (it will say in the manual) but it's usually around 500-1000 miles. This typically involves keeping the tach under a certain rpm until it's fully broken in. Breaking in seats all the seals, valves, and other engine bits and parts properly. You will notice that your power will increase during the break-in (if done properly). If you don't break in the bike properly, you will get premature engine wear, and less power than if done properly.

How much mpg do you get between this bike, Kawasaki zx6r, and the triumph 675 stupid questions but I'm new to bikes. I was thinking if starting out on a 600cc bike too but just going slow on them and learning before doing anything stupid.

@319PurpleHaze its called breaking in your motor. its worth being patient for. break it in proper though, vary the throttle, dont hold at same rpm for long at all, slowly keep pushing it further. non synthetic is better for break in,

Such a nice looking bike. So glad they finally did a face lift. I was thinking of getting this as a starter, but my only reservation would be wondering if It could still handle a 220lb guy like myself and still have some zip.

Is this is a good starter's bike? I want to get into sport bikes. I'm currently riding a Vespa Scooter. I just learned how to ride motorcycles last week and I'm going to get my license in a few days. I'm starting with $100; saving up for a starter's bike. Any advice? I really don't know that much about motorcycles.

I've been actually thinking of getting a bike, and the first one to come to mind was the Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Its cheap, looks sleek and saves on tons of gas! Does the bike only come in green...or is there black as well?

new is 4,200 roughly, and they can be found used for around 2500-3000 dollars for one a couple years old. blue book the cost before haggling, though. the 2008 model msrp was only 3499, so people asking for 3000 after 5 years is something that can be brought down. (a quick search on kelly lists the value of a 2010 model in "excellent" condition at $3,130, for instance).

Great bike for a beginner dude...a Ninja 250 was my 1st bike - and I have NEVER regretted it. First, how can you even come close to that price...I think mine was $1995. Second, it is probably the best learner/starter bike I have seen, and the changes for '08 are totally awesome. Even if you only keep for a riding season or two, you have lost nothing (I sold mine for almost exactly what I paid for it new when I was ready to upgrade). Any way you look at it - there is now downside. BE SAFE!

bought this bike new apr 1st and just bought 08 gsxr 600 the white and silver , i lost my key for the 250 when i went to the cycle shop the gsxr was displayed on a table color looked sick , and i rode out with it ,, i loved the 250 i even felt sad , but got over it after a few days , 250 55mpg / 600 43 mpg plus 6k more and insurance is more, once u get back on the 250 u WILL notice the weak power, but still fun and cheap

Ok so I might be getting this bike to ride around in until I graduate from high school and move back to europe (a year and a half). My question is: Is it acceptable to ride with a protective leather jacket, a helmet and gloves but just with regular jeans and shoes? I know that full gear is the best option but I might not be able to do that..

i have been riding for 15 years and inn that time i have owned 3 ysr50s, an fzr400, roadliner, and a ninja 250 which i sold as a down payment for my daytona 675. friends bikes which i have spent substantial time on include 06-08 sportbikes from 600-1000cc and cruisers from 250cc on up to 1100 (my roadliner is 1854cc). All that said, i can't wait until my gf gets her ninja 250. She'll have to pry me off it. it's the best beginner bike in that it doesn't really need to be replaced- except for 2up

@Superwoman2012 It is a good bike to start out with, the only thing that I would caution you is that if you are completely new you might want to look at a used bike first because more than likely you will drop it to some degree. I know I did when I first started riding, popped the clutch and laid it, forgot the kickstand was down while i was in the grage and tipped it over ect. just a thought, i know the pain when you drop a brand new beautiful bike. good luck glad to see you joining the ranks:)

I have 2004 ex250 (ninja 250), and it does fine up hills and on the freeway. In high winds it can get pushed around a bit in the wind and rain, but I find it acceptable.

It's a superb bike especially for tight town commuting (like in NYC) I personally owned one back in late 2008 as a first superbike. On the open road, it seriously lacks power. Not just lacking in power for sportsbikes, but probably the dullest 250 sportsbike I've ever ridden! After having owned it for a mere four months with 900 miles on the clock, I sold it. Being a Kawasaki, it depreciated badly as well. No regrets upgrading straight to a R6.

I would love to buy this bike. I'm basically a beginner rider and will acquire my moto license in a couple of months alongside some friends. They are all set on starting off with 600s. They say I'll be bored of a 250 in a week, which has left me a bit unsure. Are 600s well-compatible for starting out?
