where im from you have to be 24 years old to ride anything that is over 25kw power, and even for 125cc you have to go to driving school and pass national theory and driving exam at age 16 for it. and for 25kw power ones you need to be 20 year old, and have to retake the licence and go to instructor again for 16 hours, and have to pass national theory exam and driving exam 45 minutes in streets. But if you had the A2 licence which you get at 20, you dont have to do exams at 24, you just get your limitations on what you can ride. So they teach you all. Start is like first few hours is in closed training area, where you learn figures, before you go on to the streets with instructor driving behind you. But things hes saying here, like passing switch, does not exsist on my 21 year old CBR600F4iS. :D And bike doesnt move on its own so well in first gear, second and up, it moves well. And i use the killswitch, because i dont want to turn off ignition first, because if you have ignition still on with killswitch, radiator and cooling still keeps working on older bikes, so i helps my bike cool off a bit.

Lololololololololololololololol you really have to be taught by the best or constructive minds, in order to efficiently learn and completely understand what is being said, the first time. I already knew how to drive a stick, so I applied the same reasoning to the bikes mechanics. The best motor vehicle I've ever drove/rode.

I agree. I was under the impression that you had to get on the throttle at the same time that you slowly released the clutch. I didn't know that the bike would not stall if I didn't give it some throttle. You can add the throttle after you have completely released the clutch lever if I am following this correctly and I think I am just by watching how the bike was moving and the instructor was not even using the throttle. This was the best tip for me. That and perfect practice makes for perfect learning. Before the internet came out I tried to ride a motorcycle with just being told how to do it by a buddy. That is not the ideal way to learn how to ride. Trust me on that. This KZfaq thing has helped me learn so much. I'm an older guy and a lot of my learning has been by trial and error. KZfaq has made it so the errors are much less than they used to be. Learning to ride a motorcycle at my age by trial and error without getting some good instruction first is not a good idea.

Nah bro... first time on you're supposed to get to about 5000 rpm and just let that lever fly... don't want to burn out the clutch...👍

Well it depends sometimes I ride this 1970 old bike with like 2 ccs and it cant even idle😂 but if you want to get going you have to give it plenty of gas before you release the clutch. But most motorcycles should have enough power.

@@richardwestmoreland4796 You evidently took very seriously the recommendation to stay off the throttle while slowly releasing the clutch to get going, BUT did you take note of the almost-as-serious recommendation regarding the throttle when you want to slow down? @socialriderb said if you completely release the throttle while it's in gear, it could be jerky. I don't think anybody wants a jerky motorbike or to be near one. If I were to ever get on a motorcycle, I would have to really study those details because it's a bit different from a bicycle. On a motorcycle, both brakes are on the right side while the left side is all that dangerous stuff. I still have no idea how he uses that lever down there to get into 2nd, 3rd, etc. Can he tell he's in neutral WITHOUT looking at his dashboard???? Anyway, if you head down this path, I wish you the best, and hope you study the heck out of these details and practice them under differing safe conditions so that your rides produce beautiful memories instead of nightmares. Best to you.

Hubby has a Harley dynaglide - they're big & heavy (compared to street bikes) but they sit so low & solid it def helps to balance out the weight but leaning into turns with that much machine might be a lil intimidating at first. I'm the same height as you but I just turned 20 today and I got my first big boy. It's a Suzuki SV650 and I haven't had experience with anything over 125cc so I'm a little nervous. I can't wait to start practicing though.

I started with a 125cc at 17y/o. I dropped it 2 times while learning. It was nothing, I was riding very slow and my engine choked and turned off, and I lost balance. The other time I braked with my wheel turned. I'm all good, I can ride my bike quite good (still learning) and I LOVE IT. Gonna get my A2 category this year and a bigger bike. :DD

My biggest problem is that I keep forgetting the clutch and that i dont know how to brake the rear brake cause i keep leaning that way,it always feels like im gonna drop

Been there done that when I was learning 😅 weight shifts are important, after riding a few thousand kms it just comes naturally I guess but at first awareness is required.

@@lurch789 i feel that people naturally gravitate towards the rear brake at first due to how a bicycle works - in most cases the rear brake is applied first (especially on a hill) because the front brake will throw you off.

@@socalriderb emm i have been driving a car since i was 9 and rode a motorcycle at 14 there syrian kids in lebanon who can barely press the breaks on a motorcycle who drive, anyone can drive really, think about it rationally you arent doing fast and furious shit so it should be alright. just dontdont do anything stupid and take it nice and slow

@@nukester. got my base lessons done and will be switching to a bigger bike for the last few lessons and my exam. Won’t be able to do it this year since winter is approaching and motorcycle lessons will be on hold until spring. Gives me more time to save up for my first bike though!

Not even close. Not even 5% of what a BRC teaches a rider. 70% of the course is talking about how to mentally ride and scan, find outs in situations, etc. 30% is how to ride. 25% of how to ride is how to emergency brake, how to turn corners, countersteering, uturns, etc. This was 5%. If you bake your friend don't make him think this substitutes for a safety course. Riding is a life long hobby, make your friend take a 2 day BRC so that life long hobby is a long life not a short one

Yeah! If the bike is in tha range of 200cc and below, this is a FACT. You need to slowly give the throttle while in the clutch balance zone.

@@din3lka now days the idle for even under 200cc bikes is big. Either that or gtt (glide through technology) has been introduced, my 160cc bike can coast at 20kph even in 4th gear

JN2 Media I'm glad you brought this point up. I was thinking exactly the same thing. Not all bikes are the same and my understanding prior to seeing this video was that you had to slowly add some throttle as you released the clutch lever or the bike might stall or at least have a jerking motion. I'm sure that everyone's goal is to have smooth starts and acceleration and I was thinking if the idle on the bike isn't properly adjusted or it's a cold morning and the engine hasn't come up to a good operating temperature you might not have smooth starts if you don't open the throttle a bit.

Good luck with getting your licence. I've been riding for over 50 years, and passed my test when it was a lot easier than it is now. My best advice for survival is never assume that other drivers have seen you, and always give yourself an escape strategy. I still find it amazing that, in the US, it seems you can ride a comparatively large capacity bike on the road with little or no experience or formal training.

@@DANA-lx8cv fun fact - race bikes have the opposite gear effect to road bikes. Road - click lever 1 time down for 1st gear, then each click up takes you +1 gear to 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. Race - click lever 1 time UP for 1st year, then each click DOWN takes you +1 gear to 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. When racing you need to be break into a corner, lean over, then power through the rest of the corner, going up through the gears while still leaning over, and accelerate onto the straight. Because you're leaned over your left foot is very close to the track. If you had to put your foot under the lever it would get caught between the lever and the track. So you keep your foot on top and you just tap down to go up through the gears. It keeps your foot away from the track while accelerating.

Before seeing your video I thought that the bike would stall if you didn't open the throttle a bit as you slowly released the clutch lever. Correct me if I'm wrong but the bike won't stall even if you don't get on the throttle at the same time as you slowly release the clutch lever. Are all motorcycles like that? I was thinking that if the bike's idle wasn't properly adjusted when you release the clutch lever the bike could stall. Especially when it is cold out and the engine hasn't warmed up a bit first. Could you expound upon what is the best practice when you are starting the bike before the engine has come up in temperature on say a cold morning?

Some of the pointers that I'm still following today are like combi breaking and mounting the bike while squeezing the front brake. At that time I didn't know but I've been saved from mishaps because of these practices that I had early on.
