Did you have any rear differential issues with your Titan? I know early on they seemed to have some overheating failures in them? Which I think they corrected by adding a differential cover that had cooling fins on it.

The Titan narrowly lost Truck of the Year to the F-150 when it debuted for 2004 simply because it didn't offer as many engine/cab/bed configurations. Besides that, it pretty much outperformed the F-150 in all the instrumental tests, while offering innovative solutions for truck owners not previously seen (like standard spray-in bed liner, extended cab doors that opened nearly 180 degrees and lockable external storage box). Too bad Nissan didn't keep up with the market after that. They're still paying for that mistake today.

Carlos Ghosn ran Nissan to the ground through the 2000s-2010s. Nissan North America was begging corporate to update Titan because they knew the full-size truck boom was on the horizon. Such a shame because had they built upon the 04 earlier, they would've been a big player!

So i had a 2012 titan SV two wheel drive i bought with 100k miles. I joined the Coast Guard and got sent to Kodiak Alaska for my first unit. Growing up in South Louisiana never really dealt with snow or anything to do with the cold, and I did not know what i was getting into with a two wheel drive in the snow. Honestly, i feel in love with the Titans all over again up there. Yea it was two wheel drive work truck but it kept up woth all the high tech newer more expensive trucks. Hell i even towed some of them out of snow banks. Loved every minute of my time with it. When i went to Virginia for my next unit i traded it in for a 2 wheel drive XD since i have a trailer to tow. Still driving it to this day now im up in washington state and taking her up in the mountains to go snow boarding and skiing and such and still loveing every second of it. Its a very underrated truck, looks sick, comfortable drive (drove from virginia to louisiana to blaine wa in one trip) and ive never had any problems with either truck.

The inflated market is crazy right now. I could sell my 01 Silverado LS Z71 with almost 300k miles on it for close to 12k today. Just because good trucks are hard to come by these days. Paying 14k for a Titan Pro 4x with little more than 100k on it is almost unheard of, reason for the price being a little higher.

I owned a 2011 and 2021 Titan. I’ve also drag raced my buddy’s 2005 Titan in my 21. His truck was faster off the line, but I started to reel him in around 50mph and was pulling out in front of him by 75mph. The acceleration characteristics of the 2nd Gen Titan seem to be opposite of the 1st Gen. I remember my 2011 was like a rocket from 0-50mph (1st gear), but then seemed immediately fall off. Higher speed acceleration like 60mph-80mph always seemed like a chore. The 2nd gens are the opposite. Power seems to be intentionally limited in 1st gear (probably for transmission reliability), so off the line acceleration is not that strong. Higher speed acceleration is MUCH faster though. Like it’s very easy to cross into triple digits without even realizing, something that certainly wasn’t the case in my 1st Gen.

@occckid123 2 жыл бұрын
@@splewy I watched a video of a titan and after 1st gear you can hear the engine growl deeper than 1st gear because I think it's pulling power in 1st gear also or is the engine not spinning freely enough for how short 1st gear is? I know nothing about that aspect but in the video game gran turismo you can opt for a racing flywheel so it revs quicker. It's definitely noticeable in neutral where the engine revs really quickly 2 redline when you put your foot down. Here in the realy world I wonder if they are using a good enough flywheel or does that only apply 2 manual transmissions!

Just for a bit of fun knowledge. The VK56DE in the old truck fits in the Xterra and Frontier from 05-15 with just mounts. I have a VK56DE swapped 2008 Xterra with this same engine and Transmission. The transfer case from your xterra or frontier will bolt right up to the titan auto. Lost of bolts on parts from the Titan to the Xterra/Frontier front end as they share a ton of mounting points. I did have to run an electric fan set up only because there is not room for the factory belt driven fan but no cooling issues. Driveshafts all line up so you can reuse your stock ones and Driven Desire will modify your harness to make it run and tune it on UpRev. The new titan VK56 will go in the same but to make it work, your rig has to be 2012 and up, thats when harnesses changed and you cant take the new VK56 and do the same thing. Nissan made these things so interchangeable its not funny.

My 2008 Titan Crew Cab LE is by far my most favorite truck that I’ve owned. Even in comparison to owning the other major brands in the past. When I bought it it was significantly cheaper than the other brands and with more features. Current mileage is over 220k and running great with minimal overall maintenance. I towed an 24’ RV trailer For 10k miles last summer across the US with no worries. HOWEVER, the notorious exhaust manifold cracks are the issue…. BUT, after JBA long tube headers, Cajun b-pipes, and UpRev tuning, it’s like a lion being released from a cage! I love it more than ever! If you’re in the market for a used truck, look for a good one and buy it. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Just remember the exhaust manifold crack issues. Almost every factory option. I picked mine up "used" from a Nissan dealer in 2017 w/ just under 25K miles. She only has 63K now. It makes my third 1st gen Titan I have owned ( 1 upgrade, 1 totaled ). The rear window in early years had both small and large electric options. My trucks moon roof is only half the size. I really want to know where your friend had the infotainment system installed!!! If you want to test those trucks for real. Turn off traction control, turn on towing ( or shift the 2008 manually ) and see the difference. Mine is 100% factory in northern Colorado want to borrow it for a redo test? Love the show gentlemen, you are my go to for real world testing here in Colorado!

I had a 2004 Titan SE king cab 4x4. The only upgrades I did were a JBA catback exhaust, Injen intake, and Bilstein shocks. That truck was pretty fast. One of my friends had a 2003 Ram single cab Hemi and the Titan would smoke it every time. One of my other friends bought a 2007 Titan SE quad cab and my 2004 would walk away from that as well although his was stock. Also the 2004 didn't really have traction control so if you hammered it from a standing stop it would smoke the tire. If you break torqued it you could leave a 15 foot black mark on the ground and a cloud of smoke. The 2007 couldn't do that even if you turned the traction control off. Although it was a half ton truck I used to burn wood brick fuel in my woodstove and hauled a 1 ton pallet of them for 18 miles a bunch of times. Although the bed would drop it never bottomed out and nothing ever broke. The motor hardly knew that weight was back there. You are right about the fuel mileage. One of the worst vehicles I ever owned in that regard. It never met a gas pump it didn't like. I bought it as a 2 year lease return in 2006 with 19400 miles on it and I paid a dollar a mile for it. I kept it until 2020. It only had 84000 on it and still ran great. Unfortunately living in northeast NJ the rust was starting to eat it up. I loved that truck. It was like having a muscle car with a bed on it.

A first gen titan extended cab would will always be faster then a first gen titan crew cab due to the extended cab titan being lighter…..also traction control was available in the 2004 Titan but was optional and or came in the most expensive trim being the LE trim model. Originally the 2004 titan was available with 4 different trim models XE, SE, Off-Road and LE. The cheapest was the XE which was considered to be like the work truck trim that other manufacturers offer….then came the SE trim which was the most popular and the best value because you got a lot more features that people wanted and for a very reasonable price. Next up was the LE trim which was the most expensive titan trim and it was for those that wanted some luxury in their titan, such as dual power heated leather front seats, sunroof, dual zone ac, navigation,premium sound, rear passenger dvd entertainment display and it also got you TC and VDC. The last trim available was the off-road trim which was positioned right in the middle between the SE and LE trims, it was more expensive then the SE trim but less expensive then the LE trim. The off-road trim was basically an SE trim but with more off-road capability including a rear locker which you couldn’t get in other trims, plus a few extra features over the SE trim. It was later changed to the Pro 4X which was basically the same thing….The new for 2005 frontier also had an off-road trim called the nismo off-road trim, it came with the same off-road upgrades as the titan…which was also later changed to Pro 4X….

One of the other surprising things was it actually handled really well. I did put Bilstein shocks on it and it felt really tight even in the corners. I have a Chevy Colorado LT crew cab long bed 4x4 V6 now and it just doesn't seem to be as connected as the Titan to the road. It was a joy to drive. Although I like the Colorado and love the gas mileage The Titan just drove better all around. I do miss the torque and sound. @@subielife4life

Here's the real kicker, I only paid in the ballpark of 30k for both new. Amazing Value for a reliable, truly awesome truck. This was an interesting video. I like the new trucks but I'm more fond of the older trucks. I have a 2005 crew cab SE 2 wheel drive with 280,000 miles on it. I've had to replace a couple of things but nothing major. It's still a comfortable vehicle that I drive for work and play and seems to keep going forever. When it goes I'll have to decide between getting another Titan or a frontier. The gas mileage is one issue that could be a deciding factor. I don't tow a lot but I do tow occasionally and I would miss having that extra power and towing ability. But as long as it's not too expensive to fix I'll keep driving it. Still cheaper than a truck payment by far, especially nowadays.

The stock tires are darn good in snow. Little details I love.... The console is awesome. Huge storage space. I can put hat, gloves, big knife, flashlight in there and its solid. Moving the cupholders and cell phone holder is nice too. Its all modular. You can fit a 6 pack where the cup holders are, if you pop them out. So I've heard. The seats are great. The growl at start up is awesome. The headlights are really sweet. Dual projector LED and the fog lights (also LED) match really nicely. The tails are LED as well and look nice.

I had the original '04 Pathfinder Armada and loved it. Then I got the last year ('15) of the 1st generation Titan. The Armada felt quicker. The reason is because the newer Nissans ramp up to 100% throttle slower than the older ones. Even if you mash it to the floor it's not 100% immediately. That's why the Banks Pedal Commander is so popular. It gets rid of the truck's throttle by wire slower ramp up to full throttle.

Both of those trucks are on the same platform. Nathan referred to the new truck as a new platform. Both great trucks. Nissan was not an early adapter with the in bed rail tie downs. They invented them. They were first. I would like to see the old 5.6 mated to a new trans. The old 07-15 5.6 made its peak torque at 3400 rpm vs 4000 rpm for the 17- current Titan. The 04- 06 Titan was a little different with its 305hp and 379 lb ft. It didn’t have variable valve timing. That came in 2007. The 04 Titan actually called for premium fuel. Nissan quickly made slight changes and reverted back to regular fuel once they realized it could hurt sales as the majority of full size truck owners didn’t want to pay for premium fuel.

Nissan programs too much torque management into the new Titan. It pulls harder once it hits second gear, than it does in first. It accelerates the best if you roll into the throttle smooth and quick. The pedal should hit the floor right as it shifts into second. My 21 Pro-4X with 305/65r18 F load Ridge Grapplers hits 60 in 7.2 on the Dragy at 4000 ft. Only mods are JBA catback and K&N CAI.

Even with the old, worn out shocks it handled it admirably. I've been changing fluids, adding bolt ons, etc., and each thing I do wakes it up a bit more. I've ran a couple bottle of Sea Foam through the gas tank to get the emissions systems lights off. Poor old thing was just someone's beater work truck. I can't wait to throw an exhaust on it, rebuild the suspension, install new calipers, and throw a tune on it. It's only got 151k miles, so its got some life left. I upgraded to this from a 6 speed frontier. I miss the standard, but I love the extra payload capacity.
