This video is great. Very informative, but maybe we need a version of this "for dummies". There were several areas in which you kind of said, "Now all you have to do is 'this'", and then you'd cut away and it's done, like crimping the wires, or removing the panels on the car, or moving the shifter without actually shifting the gear. It would be nice to see how all of that was done, but the video was still great.

I'm sure you know by now, but for anyone else who comes here wondering: For moving the shifter, FIRST MAKE SURE YOUR PARKING BRAKE IS ACTIVATED OR YOU'LL BE PAYING DAMANGES, DRIVING TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND/OR CALLING THE CORONER. You need a flathead screwdriver (or something similar). On many cars (or at least Toyotas), there should be a little rectangular cover you never noticed before near your shifter. Put the screwdriver in the slot and use it to pry it off. AGAIN, MAKE SURE THE PARKING BRAKE IS ACTIVE. NO ONE AND NOTHING NEEDS TO BE MAIMED BECAUSE YOU MOVES A TINY PLASTIC RECTANGLE. To shift gears, press inside the hole (you can use the screwdriver to press), and you should be able to move the shifter freely. And your car shouldn't move, because you listened to my yelling that the parking brake should be active. 📣 OH, AND BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE CAR, MAKE SURE TO PUT THE CAR BACK INTO PARK. Up to you to weigh the risk of leaving out the rectangle while the car is in gear to remind yourself to put it back into park, only to lose it and have your 5-year-old put the car into neutral with no parking brake a month later, and putting it back while working and potentially getting a "surprise" when you or the next person to drive your car releases the parking brake without their foot on the brake.

Also, I have the same metra wiring harness that was already connected to an old Pioneer deck harness from 2004 on my 98 Toyota corolla. Would I be able to just re-use the old wiring harness on a new Pioneer deck with my 2010 Toyota Corolla LE? In other words are the current Pioneer harnesses different from the ones going back to 2004?

Hello, Anyone who have the base model and is using the metra 170-1761 harness, are you experiencing any whining noise coming from the rear/backseats of the car? I am using a Dual XDVD269BT with this metra harness, and after connecting all the wires from the harness to the Aftermarket Radio harness, I am not using the SWC cable, illumination wire, reverse wire, and brake wire, as well as the dimmer wire on the metra harness. The radio works fine, sound is good, but I get this whining noise with acceleration the ground wire (black) from the aftermarket radio is spliced onto the metra harness, and it just plugs into the the car cables, using two of them cable instead of the original four.

@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 жыл бұрын
You will need a separate adapter to retain the steering wheel control module. Usually we use the Metra Axxess ASWC-1 to retain those features. It also depends if your new aftermarket radio is compatible with the steering wheel controls. You can retain the aux port, but depends on the wiring adapter you use and the new radio you have chosen.

Thinking of replacing stock radio, mainly to have blue tooth. According t manual, there is a microphone built into the headliner, it's in the overhead light console in front of the lights. It's visible, 3 slots like the manual shows. Can that be used instead of the added one to run wires? Thanks
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 4 жыл бұрын
Usually they are on a protected circuit, so integration is generally almost impossible. Unless you are good with small electrical components, it is easier just to run a new mic.

I just bought a 2009 Corolla xrs and it came with the JBL factory head unit but it doesn't sound good. Now I haven't tried a cd on it yet cause I just got the car today but the radio sounds crappy and the reception is terrible. If I was to replace the head unit with something along the lines of a Pioneer like in this video or a double din unit with the big screen, will it power any factory amplifiers that may be a part of that JBL system. The speakers in the back have pretty big magnets so I'm assuming it's got some power handling capability.
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 6 жыл бұрын
Well, if you upgrade the radio, the adapter harness needed would utilize your new radio's RCA outputs. Generally speaking, aftermarket radios do allow more customizability, eq, and adjustments needed, so you may find a better sound with the upgrade. Head over to sonic electornix and use their vehicle fit guide to ensure you get the right parts. Use coupon code ProvoBeast to get 5% off a checkout.

Well, if you get the new harness adapter, you will not have to cut and identify the factory wiring. The benefit of the harness is that is simplifies the wiring for only a few bucks. My Factory AUX Port has a problem where I have to wiggle it and maintain the aux cable in a certain position for it to play out of all my speakers. If I install an aftermarket radio with a new AUX port on it, do you think I will continue having AUX issues and playback throughout all of my speakers?
@ProvoBeastAudio

No, the AUX issue is common for these model years. The new radio has an aux on the front of the radio itself which the old Factory aux will no longer be used. You will no longer have issues with it.

I'm perplexed by the extra two connectors that are going unused. What functions do those serve in the factory radio that wouldn't be needed in the aftermarket radio? That's a lot of wires to nowhere.
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 жыл бұрын
One unused harness was for the factory Aux which went bad, hence why the customer decided to replace the radio in the first place. The new radio has the Aux port on the front of the unit, which was why we decided not to retain it. The other typically is for speed-sensitive volume that the factory radio used, but wasn't needed on the new radio.

Generally no, but best way to test is to throw in your factory radio again to see if that functionality comes back. If it doesn't there is another issue with the keyless entry separate from the radio.

Good, and by the way, does the radio turn on and off by itself when you turn your car on and off, because for me i have to always turn the radio itself on and off regardless if the car is working, which is tough.

Sounds like you have a major wiring issue.

hey, did the factory aux port on the bottom still work with the new radio
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 жыл бұрын
No, the aux port on this radio is located on the front of the new radio. The customer did not want to retain the factory aux.

Them Toyota and Nissan have the cheapest upper dash plastic on the planet. They break if you just sneeze on them the wrong way. Why I hate doing them. You take your time. Only to have it spider crack while putting them back in...
