Hey roy, hey Roy the 2011 Forester is slightly different from the one that I show in the video. You're 2011 has a different motor, it's not an EJ but an fb. So certain things may be slightly different when doing the radiator but it is pretty much the same job. Definitely replacing it is the way to go. You sound like you're decently knowledgeable about cars with some of the stuff that you checked. The coolant temperature sounds normal. Unfortunately for the oil leak the FB motor is a real pain when it comes to leaking oil. The fixes that are required are usually pretty expensive and labor intensive. In regards to the FB the best advice I could give you is to check your oil regularly to ensure that you're not burning it. As for the shop that told you they couldn't check for compression that doesn't sound right to me as long as you're referencing the compression of the engine. You can have a coolant leak and check compression. In regards to your head gasket luckily the FB Motors don't have head gasket issues. They usually are playing by oil burning issues and annoying leaks that are quite expensive to fix. Trying the ATP Maybe a short-term solution but most stop leak type of items can cause really profuse leaks when the gaskets fail. Good luck on Sunday my friend. @@JimmysAutoClinic Thanks Jimmy. Dropped the oil, radiator/drain and replaced all 4 plugs with OEM NGKs today. I kept about 1/2qt of each (oil and coolant)just in case I want further analysis. As for the oil and coolant really nothing abnormal, coolant was still nice and blue, no smells of exhaust/gas and no residual oil. The oil was fine as far as I can tell too, nothing abnormal like foaming mud-like stuff (when water is mixed). As for the plugs, the car fax says they were replace at 85K and the car has 153K. The tips were dry but there was decent amounts of oil in/around the coil packs. I cleaned up each port and replaced each plug with anti-seize on the threads and torqued to spec. For the short time we've owned it it doesn't seem to burn oil and the exhaust is clean. New Mobile One Full Syn 0W-20 and one bottle of ATP 205 Re-seal went into the crank case and tomorrow I will install the new radiator and use Subaru Super Coolant and one of the small bottle of Subaru Holtz conditioner. Not much more I can do with the engine/cooling system parts. Now onto P/S fluid change, diff gear oil, trans ATF drain/refill, and finally brake rotors, pads and flush with DOT 3. Oh, I'm also using new hoses even though these hoses that came off the radiator (upper/lower) seem fine. Thanks again!

Great work. Just keep an eye on the spark plug ports the valve covers can leak and then cause you to have a misfire eventually. Fingers crossed you don't have to replace those valve cover gaskets. Although you sound very capable of doing it. Have a great rest of the weekend Roy.

THANK YOU, finally someone else who agreed with my opinion of the gauge lol. I also use an OBD2 plug in adapter that reads the temperature in many other different parameters on my cell phone while driving. It's definitely a good idea. Hopefully they bring the gauge back one day. Yeah it's amazing what you see in the rust belt. I am definitely doing the editing of the videos. It usually takes a couple of days out of the week to get the long ones done and the complete Saturday for the ones that are 20 minutes and under. So thank you very much for commenting because it makes it worthwhile :-).

Hey my friend. As long as you clamp off the hoses with hose pinches or with bolts minimal fluid will drop out. It's usually less than 50 to 100 ml which is really nothing in the grand scheme of things. You can top it off at the transmission if you're concerned about it however we never do.

That's a really long time for the fans Not to Come on. Sometimes when I don't show on video is me revving the engine up to about 2,000 RPM and then sometimes I blip it through about 3,000 to get them to come on however if you rented at idle and all the bubbles are out just keep an eye on the open tank as well as the radiator over the next few days to ensure that there are no air gaps. Sounds like you did everything well and you're good to go however.
