This 2009 crash test demonstrates how vehicle size and weight influence outcome in a multi-vehicle car crash.
In the test, the 2009 Toyota Camry and 2009 Toyota Yaris traveled toward each other at 40 mph, with 50 percent of the Yaris’s width overlapping the Camry. The structure of the Yaris, which weighs 1091 pounds less than the Camry, didn’t hold up as well against the larger vehicle as in the car-to-barrier tests on which IIHS ratings are based.
