Hello and Thank you for the awesome videos. I've modded the PTU for easy oil swap as recommended and replace the fluid now as standard maintenance. Since the hot spot there I've noticed the turbo air scoop is missing from my vehicle as purchased used from a car dealer. Do you think this may have adverse effects on the turbo temp/performance/or that whole area getting hotter than it should and do you recommend a replacing it? I would be happy to purchase from your shop as you are local enough for me! Thanks a million for sharing your experience so well!!!

I work at a Ford dealership and there's so many instances where people go 10k miles on semi synthetic with EcoBoost engines. For some reason 100% oil life in the vehicle settings is equivalent to 10k~ miles so people just wait for that oil change required light, not realizing they are 5k miles over what the sticker says. That oil normally comes out stinky, black, and dirty.... Nearly looking like diesel. It's even worse when people get their FIRST change at 10k. I feel bad for the people out there that just don't know better. I try to explain in our inspections that they shouldn't go that far, but the advisors come back and complain about the customer being angry at us. Then they tell us to stop explaining it because they're too baby-like to handle a disgruntled customer. Hopefully Ford changes they oil life meters to NOT be SO far.

It’s what ford wants motorcraft oil and filter and the car will tell you when it needs changed. Why is the manufacturer and dealer not on the same page?
@xeutoniumnyborg1192
@xeutoniumnyborg1192 11 ай бұрын
I'm surprised Ford hasn't shortened the oil change intervals if for nothing else to reduce the warranty expense totals under ESP due to the need to replace engines. Sadly, we humans are made lazy by technology, and most motorists rely on that stupid oil reminder to tell them the oil needs to be changed. When I worked at GMC, new truck buyers received a coupon to get their first oil change free of charge. Coupon had the mileage interval the truck should be brought in printed on the certificate. Ford should start offering that to its new car buyers.
@supersportimpalass

There should be class action lawsuits for manufacturers programming their computers with such ridiculous oil change intervals that are known to damage engines.
@brycemartin572
@brycemartin572 3 ай бұрын
The engine will last just a little over 100k if you go with 10k oil change intervals so Ford isn't losing any money on warranty engine replacements and not many people that buy new cars keep their cars for more than 2-3 years so it is the secondary used market where this becomes an issue. Ford will keep the 10k oil change interval on paper because then they can show a lower cost of ownership on the dealer fact sheet.

A tip - lots of oil pans/engines leave about 0.25-0.5 quart or more of oil in the system after draining. With the drain plug still off, pour some oil in and wait until it runs clean out the bottom. This will help push out some of the remaining old oil. I have heard that airplane mechanics do it like this.

I made the mistake of buying an oil change package from the dealer (rhymes with "Spotto-bation") when I bought my F150. The price made the per oil change cost about the same as doing it myself or taking to an independent shop. The sales guy sold it as top-tier products, factory recommended maintenance, blah, blah, blah. Figured it would be good to have all that dealer maintenance on the Carfax. The reality is they use the cheapest oil they can find, as well as crappy no-name filters. Just stay away from dealers, unless you are forced to get recall or warranty work done.

If no one has answered after your question five months, here is my experience. Stay with the manufacturers spec. The naturally aspirated uses 5w20 but the twin turbo version will specify 5w30. I believe if your driving is in a very hot climate you wouldn’t necessarily need 5w20 and would require the upgrade but this is spelt out in your owners manual.

Excellent video. I was wondering if you could do a video explaining your personal preference of motor for the new 2020 F150. Regardingthe 2.7L, 3.5L, or the 5.0L. I'm interested in purchasing a new 2020 truck. I had a 2014 F150 XLT 4x4 with the 3 5L EcoBoost engine. It was a crewcab with the .373 rear end gears & max trailer tow pkg. I had a problem with fuel getting into the crank case and my engine oil level would go up between oil changes. I could also smell fuel intermittently in the cab of the truck plus if I checked the oil level on the dipstick I could I could smell fuel. I traded off the truck after 2 years and 40,000km of ownership. I actually had no engine problems at all with the 2014 truck I was just concerned about long term damage. I'm leaning towards getting another 2020 F150 3.5L 4x4. I have been told by the sales department at my Ford dealership that I shouldn't be worried about this same problem if I get a new version of the 3.5L I would like to get the max trailer tow pkg on my new truck but im a bit gun shy and worried about the EcoBoost motors. Any advice or confidence building words would be appreciated. Keep up the informative videos. Thanks Brad.

What nice is theres a plastic built in funnel which drains forward if level or to the rear if on ramps. Also put a valve as the oil plug to divert oil with a hose, no more oil down the sway bar.

With base-up canister filters such as yours (well, mostly base-up) I like to fill the oil filter with fresh oil before installing. This will help prevent dry start after an oil change. With your angled oil filter, you could fill it about 75% and not worry about spilling any oil when installing the filter. Also, before reinstalling any underbody shields or plates, I do the test run and make sure there are no leaks. So if there is a leak, I won't have to pull the shields off again to fix the leak. Very good video! Thank you!

I'm kinda impressed with the oil life monitor on my 2018 F150 w/3.5L EcoBoost. Wasn't sure how accurate or useful it was but it can really tell the difference between Castrol and Mobile One. Have had 3 oil changes done and the Mobil One lasts nearly twice as long as the Castrol. Two changes with Mobil One, one Castrol. My garage isn't tall enough to raise the truck so I've bought Mobil One and paid $20 for a local shop to change with my oil. The Castrol change was a coupon I had. Regularly checking the monitor showed a faster drop in remaining life when using Castrol. I think it was semi synthetic, but after about 4 months it was down to below 10%.

The oil life monitor cannot monitor which oil is different, it only counts how many times you drive the car, and how long you are driving it. If you say different oils "last" longer or shorter, then perhaps your engine is "using", or leaking oil or maybe your pcv valve is clogged,, etc.. ??
