2010 Chevrolet Equinox only Blows Hot or Cool( when other selected). Blend Door Actuator, Problem.

This job will probably take you an hour or so but relatively easy, watch the video a couple times then start.
If your Equinox only Blows warm air in all temperature settings( not related to AC, compressor or evaporator problems, only cool air when warm selected or hot when cool selected even in vent mode, basically stuck in warm or cooler air ) this video is for you. In addition a few weeks earlier the blend door actuator, Amazon Dorman, 604-185 HVAC Blend Door Actuator, would open and close making a banging noise from lower right dash after shutting car off. This noise was caused by the blend door actuator going bad. This door controls flow of air either over heater core for warm air or evaporator for cool air. Mine was stuck in heater core mode, hot air only. It’s a bit tricky to get to the new part, the plastic gear into door. You may have to plug in before it fits and change to cool setting to rotate gear into position so you can install in proper orientation. PAY ATTENTION to how old one is situated and compare it too new part. Also my blower motor was very loud and vibrated badly. Tune in for what caused this problem! Also I know this was not a great video, done after the fact and I need to improve my skills behind the camera. But I realized this is a common problem and relatively easy, compare that to the big bucks the dealer wanted to fix this problem, and you will feel very good you were able to do this yourself. Side note, these doors used to be controlled by cables(most reliable) then vacuum and finally electronic( least reliable). Thanks for watching. My videos will get better!!

Great Video, I had banging sounds when I had the vent on, my problem only cool air would come out of vents, but sounded like the same component, the blend door actuator, replaced it and have full control again thanks again.

Hi Kelley, glad the blend door actuator took care of your problem. Interesting thing is once they went to electrical components vs vacuum controlled components, reliability has gone down. Let me know if you have any other issues. Thanks again for watching.

My air blows warm air on cool and hot air on hot , didn’t find any leaks, ac compressor is working could it be the condenser?

Could be low refrigerant, enough to allow Pressure switch to turn on compressor, as you said compressor is coming on, but low enough to not cool well. Yes condenser would be my next choice.

@@rltkktlr how did you know that was the part causing the problem, I seen people say it’s the evaporator temperature sensor?

@@donjulio7330 my video pertained to the blend door actuator, that controls airflow over the heater core or evaporator. Your issue sounds as though it’s related to compressor or evap. I’m working on a video for diagnostic of this. Thanks for watching.

I’m getting warm and cold air any idea what that can be

In my case, the part failed in the hot position, so no matter what I did with the temp control it stayed hot. It could also fail in cold position, or possibly somewhere in between. You can hear the position moving I believe when you change from cold to hot. But either way if you don’t have Control over temp it could be your problem. Even with AC off you should be able to select full hot and cooler, “vent” air.
