Thank you so so much ,My daughter and I live in Arizona and summers here are well to be blunt Hell ! Since my husband passed away we try to do as much repair work our selves ! We were fortunate that we worked with my husband ! He was self employed and repaired hydraulic service equipment ! And did any and all work done on our vehicles himself ! My daughter has done some repairs by her self on our Jeep , she also helped her Grandpa “work “ on his Pickup Trucks occasionally ! We did the paper clip test and sure enough the A/C started right up ! Again we old gals ( I am 83 my daughter is 65 ) thank you Sir ! May all blessing bring you happiness and I wish you more luck then you will need🍀 (a line from a Jimmy Buffett song)

Thank you, I'm going to try that in the morning. "Edit Update". I bought this 1997 jeep Nov 2022 and love it except for no AC. I tested and did what you showed us today with my OHM meter and it worked! After it ran awhile I gave it a small freon charge. Several local AC shops gave me an estimate of $200 to $450 to fix it. Unbelievable! I have the part coming from Rock Auto next week. SUBSCRIBED AND THANK YOU!

If the switch is good, but the compressor doesn't come on, check the continuity in the coil in the electromagnetic clutch assembly, and if no continuity, replace those clutch parts (sold in kits online) instead of replacing compressor and the refrigerant. It's a lot cheaper, and a DIY job.

I just typed in "air conditioning Jeep" and your video popped up. My 97 Cherokee had sat at my cabin since March after a wiring harness failed following some engine work, dropping the entire bundle onto the exhaust manifold, shorting out a bunch of sensors. My mechanic was able to fix that fairly cheap, but driving home in the 80-degree afternoon, I immediately noticed I had no air conditioning. Finally was able to get online tonight and yours was the first video. It's dark now, but I went through your checklist. No leaks and the clutch is definitely NOT engaging when the AC is on. I tried the paper clip trick and it engaged straight up. I'll head to NAPA in the morning for the new part. Thanks for this! John

Dang I wish had a truthful trustworthy mechanic that I knew. I had 3 different quotes for my 2014 (only 55k miles) Kia Sorento’s AC problem. 2 said it was leaky hoses, one said it was a compressor. Both gave me a quote of around $650. It took one of my coworkers to say; “you might want to check the compressor fuse. I had a Honda a few years back where that was the problem”. Now watching this video , i’m getting my hopes up that it’s something this cheap! 🙏🏼

You may have solved a problem I have been chasing for months on the wifes 2007 Buick Rendezvous. For some reason AC Delco decided to not put a low pressure switch inline on this model, but mounted on the tailend of the compressor itself. I can make the a/c work by jumpering the relay, as long as I also jumper the high speed fan relay at the same time I get cold air inside the vehicle. have replaced the high pressure switch, made sure the freon pressures were good, etc. But no where could I find if the powertrain control module played a part in the a/c working...and without that info I hated to replace it due to cost if I was just guessing it might. So will check the low pressure switch again and if jumpering it doesn't solve the problem, go ahead and replace the PTM. Your confirmation that it does play a part, at least on Jeeps, is close enough for me to spend the dollars to give it a try...Thanks!

A nod of thanks to ya Lad! With the info here I believe I've solved my heat soak/vapor lock issue. Something to ponder, if the pressure is down in the AC then the switch won't work. Perhaps the pressure pushes up on the Schraeder valve plunger which in turn pushes up into the switch for continuity.....dunno but I had tested my switch and she read open. I added freon to the AC system with the paper clip installed and the engine running, compressor spinning. Got cold air in the cab. For laughs I ohmed the switch again and I had continuity. To summarize....low pressure results in the compressor not kicking on, electric fan not kicking on, heat building up in the engine compartment and then getting vapor lock. Here I thought I'd just get away without that fancy AC stuff and rely on 4X55 cooling.......

This let me check the pressure on my system. Thanks I knew I had a leak but couldn't find it im guessing it's the evaporator core. I'll be in there replacing the heater core later this year so I'll just do it all at once

Thanks dude. Your vid saved my butt. I did replace the pressure censor, but compressor still didn't turn on thought had to get replaced or at least expensive shop diagnostic. did the paperclip test and compressor turned on.

Hi. Thank you for this very interesting video with a new trouble shooting that I haven't seen before. Good point that you explained that there is a shredder valve below your pressure switch, this helps to understand. Unfortunately on some cars there is no shredder valve below the pressure switch and if you remove it you loose all the gaz. Thank you again. Continue like this too share your knowledge.

Hell for 8 bucks I would try that first. My air was working when I stoped the vehicle. After about an hour, started it up and it had quit. It was raining that day hard. I'm thinking it may have shorted out that switch. Thanks for the info.

4:30 Be careful not to bypass the switch for to long, because you could blow up your AC compressor, if it is low on freon.

Bypassing your AC pressure switch will not blow the system up. That is the low side. Nope your head pressure kicks up. You have a head pressure switch. They will kick the system out. All y’all do is is Barna compressor up basically and it’ll cost you more that’s all.
@user-lh8sx1no2l
@user-lh8sx1no2l 9 ай бұрын
@@CharlesLease-ei1ee If the pressure is low because the refrigerant had leaked. The pressure switch would off to stop the compressor from running because rubricant oil in the compressor is not enough. So if you make the compressor run by shorting the pressure switch the compressor will get a problem.

Thanks man, that was pretty informative. A lot of videos don't "what if" , and sometimes that's important. My AC on my pickup works good when I first start it up and then sometimes it will run good for 50 miles or it may run cold for 10 miles. Then it may kick back on and work fine. Any ideas?

Possible compressor clutch, next video will be on a intermittent worn clutch. Very very good example , some times it works 5 minutes, sometimes no problems at all. I'll link it to you when it uploaded if want, let me know . Thanks For Sharing!

I knew there was a way to outsmart the wiring system, and I wasn't sure until I watched your video. I checked the relay and it opens and closes at the right time's, the wiring seems legit without issue, and the clutch just won't engage. I know my refrigerant level is just at the high side of the normal range so I'm not leaking refrigerant thankfully. And there's no visual issies/problems I could find. Will try to short out the low side fuse first in the morning. It's 410AM at my location in new York and I've been out here since around 1030 or so. Get a few hours of shut-eye and back at it afterwards.
