2010 Focus Automatic Transmission not starting or shifting out of park? Try this!

This video shows how to manually shift a Ford Focus back into or out of park if your shifter linkage becomes disconnected. It also shows how to replace the bushing which connects the shifter in the car to the transmission linkage cable and also covers how to make something that will work using the Dorman 14057 repair kit that is readily available at almost any auto parts store.

Put the emergency brake on if you need to manually shift gears from under the car like described in the video.

I bought the exact part number you got, did the exact thing you said to do which was to sand it down and now it works perfect. Glad this helped! Incredible that this wasn't a recall on these cars considering how potentially dangerous the car losing the ability to shift into/out of park could be during operation!

Hi i’m sorry to bother you but i have an automatic 2007 Focus and since last Thursday my car shifter wont go on drive,park is all good and the car starts perfectly. Iff you put it in reverse there’s no problems and it’s the same with the first and second and there’s no lights on in the dashboard accept the overdrive off but i figure it’s because the car can’t get in drive. When you shift there’s a little orange line that follows the shifter on the left to show in which gear the stick is but mine when you put it in drive,reverse or park,the line stays at second gear? My mechanic is gonna check it more Monday. When i saw your video i liked it and when i saw hem he was thinking about the same thing so i’m just wondering iff you already had this problem with one of your clients and have a few pointers for us?
