Good review. Just a $.02 on the Triumph bag mounting. The "sway" is intentional. The design is meant to allow the weight to shift in the corners and take some of the weight of the bags out of the handling. Just another feature that makes it more of a street bike than an offroad. Of course you can avoid that by using 3rd party bags (of which there are plenty).

Best comparison i´ve seen! congratulations. But we have to see a new one after a lot of miles, specially to see how the Triumphs performs in terms of reliability, suspensions (specially front). Almost everyone knows already what are de defects of the gs, but not the Triumph´s, i would like to hear comments and experiences about this. thanks!

I've ridden both (own the f800), they both are cool in my opinion. I love the sound of the triple from the triumph.. The one thing that sucks about the triumph is turning off the ABS, you have 3 different menu's to go through and soon as you stop n start again, you have to do it all over again.. Whereas the BMW is one push button.. simple.. If you use ABS on dirt, gravel etc.. you wont stop, seen it happen so i always make sure to have it off when riding dirt.

On release I seem to recall Triumph claiming that they deliberately designed the mounting system for the panniers so that it leaves them loose to move around - the premise being, that the free movement increases high speed stability; as oxymoron'ish as that may sound...

I wouldn't use hard luggage anyway. A/ they're too big-not flexible in a fall & the sheer volume they add too much weight by the time they're loaded. Most people are going to soft/ hard luggage-soft for the bags and hard for the mounting. Lone rider do some great bags as do Hepco Becker with their C Bow pannier system (depending on how long you want to go away for). The fuel tank system on the BMW which you saw as a plus as far as I know has being abandoned on the new model. I think that it would have being good to hear about ease of maintenance and service costs as well as economy which weren't really mentioned. Obviously a triple will produce HP and torque than similar sized twin as you have more pistons firing at any given time. Also with the triple the engine will tend to be less stressed than a twin or single so you should see many more miles on the clock for it's service life.

I think if you want more of a road bike characteristic which does off road, go the triumph.. If you want something that feels like an overpowered MotoX bike thats still smooth on the road, go the F800gs

we agree with the video as we rode these bikes as loaners for 44 days to Alaska. We have our own average ADv riders review on our blog if interested. Goggle advgrrls and you will find our 2011 triumph Alaska Adventure. We own a couple of 2010 BMW F650GS bikes to compare somewhat.

F800GS for me

I wanted the F800 for a long time, until I saw pictures of the upper shock mount, all the bent bolts, and a couple bent frames. That kinda turned me off the bike, especially for any real off road riding. Serious design flaw.
