I have a K1200S, 2005 year model. I changed the fitting before it began to leak. Be careful with the fuel and leaving wrenches/tools around the battery terminals. Beautiful bike! Good video!

yeah, the magnet pickup tool almost fell on the negative while it was attached to the positive... or at least it looked that way. Would have been an interesting video.

There were several recalls for those, check with you local BMW dealer. At the time of this video, the recalls were not available in Texas.

Please be careful while doing that. There is an Heatmat under the tank and sometimes it is soaked full of gas and the lightest spark will ignite it. I learned this the hard way!

Thanks, it's a warranty item. You can check with BMW to see if it was serviced or take it to any dealer for repair. At the time of this video the recall had been sent but there were no parts available, pandemic.

The quick disconnect does not break apart, well it breaks quite often, but it does not sela off, if it breaks off gas will run out freely. Only seals when you unplug it like you did in the video. They are prone to breaking due to aging, replace it with metal ones whil in htere working on the tank anyways. The whole pumpassembly is recalled by bmw in the USA due to the exact problem you have no, they have to replace the pumpassembly for free on all bike's from 2005 up until now, total of 17,000 bike's affected. The leak comes from the flange cracking, not a bad seal, they had this issue in 2013 as well, they then fitted the metal ring you see around the flange for the quick disconnect, that fixa failed as you see.

@@ELDESTBuilds The recall for a new pumpunit came out this summer, so your bike is still at risk for leaking fuel and catching fire. Will need to go in again.

Welcome, there is a current recall to fix it as well. Advise you check the alternator nut if you have the hot start issue. Haven't had one since I tightened it.

Hot start issue has an open recall for it, BMW will upgrade the battery and starter leads to allow more cranking current.

The fuel and oil tanks are plastic, so there is no rust. I'd check the fluids and see if it will fire up. There were a few recalls on the 12s for the oil chain and fuel strip. I had the 05 model, great bike.

so I got to ask would it just be dead on start up or did it try to turn over and sometimes make a cranking noise and just stop for a bit. after cooling about 5 minutes it starts no big deal? only reason I ask is my 2010 has this issue and I've replaced the battery and was hoping it wasn't the alternator/stator.

This one, out for a ride, stop for fuel, key on, hit the go button, nothing. Lights are on, dash is on, hit the go button, nothing. Could be 5 seconds, could be 15 minutes. I replaced the battery it would still happen. This bike has an alternator under the tank. That's the loose wire. You can fix it this weekend.

Replacing only half the connector with a metal connector is not good practice. The plastic parts become brittle with heat, age and chemical reaction to fuel. Regardless which plastic connector part breaks it’s the same outcome. High pressure fuel spraying on your alternator. A new all metal connector is only about $50.

Quick question. I am buying a bike (cbr 125cc) next week but I checked the bikes mot ( Ministry of Transport) history and it says 1. Front tyre slight cracking 2. Fuel tank slightly loose (6.1.3 (a) (i)) Are any of these a huge problem or can I still buy and ride it

Front tire cracks probably due to some age on the tire. Ride it and see how it feels replace when necessary. Loose fuel tank probably just needs a wrenching.

@@ELDESTBuilds the Bike has been there in 2014 but they could not find anything and now i am replacing it by myself. The part that you need is no longer available only off-market. Thanks AliExpress lol but after i put the tank back in its neutraal position it rins like crap and now i have to fix that again 😵‍💫

@@ELDESTBuilds so did this yesterday. The orginial plastic valve seemed OK on mine just shooting gas out the thread. (The thread lock was goopy and who ever did it should be shot.) So I put more (yellow tape) on and still have a leak >.>. I ordered the metal part like I should have orginially but just ordered the metal part. Sigh will update later.

@@gentlemansbusa2985 there is a factory recall on the fuel tank locking ring. The piece that it is screwing into. Contact BMW and set up an appointment. When I made this video no parts were available.
