Changing oil on your K1300S check out this video to see how it’s done. Should also work on K1200 as well.

Removing the drain plug first makes changing the filter a lot less messy 😉

If you make an aluminum foil trough under the filter you can usually get all the oil that comes out of the filter in the drain pan without getting it on the headers

Sight windows on a wet sump engine are a pain to look at because of how low they are, which is why I prefer a dip stick. You've got it easy on a dry sump engine.

I see one where i live with low miles only 158 and mint condition i was wondering what kind of problems if any have you had? And how do you like the bike. The one iam looking at is a 2006 K1200s. Yellow and black. Its a beautiful bike but i am comming from Suzuki's ..lol if you go to my page you'll see the bikes i have owned in the past. Thank you

Thanks for your video. I followed your directions and also opened the oil plug to let the oil drain from the bottom. The K1300S is supposed to take 4 liters with the oil filter changed. I added 4 liters but the oil level stayed beneath the minimum marker next to the plastic tube. Does that mean I need to add more oil until the level reaches between the minimum and maximum markers?
@MattsMotoWoRX2 жыл бұрын
If it’s on the low side just add a little bit
@mylord93402 жыл бұрын
@@MattsMotoWoRX I'll do that. Apparently between the low and high marker takes half of a liter. The oil level on mine is currently about the same distance but below the low level marker. I will add between 1/4 and 1/2 liter of oil. Thanks again.
@mylord93402 жыл бұрын
@@MattsMotoWoRX I checked the oil level at both the dipstick and the plastic tubing from the oil reservoir after riding the motorcycle for 10 miles. The level was where it was supposed to be on the dipstick and at the plastic tubing it was just above the minimum. So, no additional oil was needed. I simply had to ride the bike for a few miles and then immediately check the levels. Again, thanks for the well done video.

Matt, what is the correct capacity? My owners manual states two different values, both say WITH a filter change. One says 3.5 l, the other 4 l.

Hi Matt, I believe if you do not remove the plastic hose to drain the oil and only remove the bottom bolt + filter you can drain all the oil, am I wrong? Thanks a lot for the vídeos! Greetings from Brazil!

Hercules Piazzo This is the way BMW recommends it be done. I am always open to new ways to try it. I’ll try just pulling the drain plug next time I get one in for service and see if works. Thanks for checking out the videos

Matt, ok. I was just enquiring because where you have to pass the oil line, it can get damaged if one isn’t careful. Ok do let me know if it works but I think it would.

Because this is a dry sump bike, the drain bolt on the engine will release only the residual oil that wasn't pumped back up to the reservoir.

Can you just skip the drainhose and only do the drain plug to drain oil ?? (and filter ofcourse)

No because the oil is stored in the sump tank and it won’t drain back into the engine

You do not need to remove the fairing to access oil filter. Sump contains only residual oil, so oil tank must be drained.
