Wow, even in its LAST model year, it still had the feel of classic luxury cars. There will never be a true limousine like the Town Car ever again these days. The Panther platform is a legend, and all three cars had SPACE.

Hey Tom, I just noticed your comment. That towncar is truly awesome. I bought a 2009 s550 after that, it was nice but doesn't have the perfect combination a towncar does. I recently got myself another towncar, a red 03 Carter exactly like the one Corentin bought. Hope you'll get you'll 2011 back on the road soon. I ordered my custom license plate LTC. keep a eye out. Take care.

I'm going to retire this year, I've always owned trucks I'm going to get one of these beauty's always loved the Towncar style. I asked a Lincoln owner once how he likes his car, he said he doesn't own a car he owns a Lincoln.

I have my 14th Town Car and to me, there is no better car. The maintenance is great, gas mileage is good, went on a 575 mile trip recently and only used a tank and a quarter of gas. My grandchildren love riding with me, they often fall asleep when we go out

@@steveprinty5674 Lots of junk ones out there now. Nice condition low mileage ones with no/little rust are difficult to come by. Bear in mind these great full size body on frame sedans have not been produced for ten years now. It's a damn shame Ford stopped producing the Panther Platform and demolished the St. Thomas Ontario facility. A good number of jobs lost there as well.
@steveprinty56745 жыл бұрын
C. Dillabough Yes, it’s a shame. As for rust on 10 or more year old vehicles go, I guess it depends on where you live. I live in central valley of California and still have the ‘96 Suburban I bought new 23 years ago. It’s in great shape! Long live body-on-frame, rear wheel drive with V8. If they don’t make cars like that I will keep buying trucks and SUVs.
@c.d.77425 жыл бұрын
@@steveprinty5674 I live in Ontario and there are few of these with decent underbodies (and in many cases the usual rust around wheel wells, rocker panels, door edge bottoms, and trunk lid edge) available due to being winter driven where we now use that awful liquid de-icer stuff that corrodes metal that my Ford dealership guys say they have never witnessed in the past. I have a 1990 Grand Marquis and 2004 Mustang that have never been winter driven and are rust free underneath. My winter car is a 2003 Grand Marquis that I spray with Salt Eliminator every spring and then wash out underneath using an underbody water broom with the pressure washer turned to the top psi to get all the crap and salt off. I also use the Salt Eliminator in the engine compartment and rinse out with under 500psi with a broad spray head. Then I let it dry and take it to get it oil sprayed. No boy rust whatsoever and minimal rust on the underbody. Aside from rust there is another issue. It is difficult to find the Town Cars with decent interiors or without excessive mileage. Bear in mind that most of these sedans were driven for commercial livery use. In fact, pretty much all of the 2010 and 2011 production went exclusively to the livery market. No Lincoln dealers stocked the Town Car for those last two years of production, and if an individual wanted one it was a special order. I am not a fan of driving pickups or SUVs for daily drivers like a sedan. You always have to keep in mind what you have under your butt when you get behind the wheel in terms of a higher center of gravity or you will pay the price. This is especially so if you are used to driving a full size road hugging sedan and forget behind the wheel of an SUV. I said online that cops will be killing/injuring themselves when they no longer were driving Panthers and was flamed badly for that. Well, a cop told me that when they initially switched to Impalas the cops had to watch how they drove them and the repair costs went through the roof because they just could not stand up to the driving habits. I have watched older cops pull U turns with Crown Vics by simply pulling over on the shoulder and then giving it some heavy throttle to make the hind end skid on the loose gravel while the front wheels were anchored to the pavement. Try that with FWD....HAH! So a cop I know had just gone onto shift in the early morning during a snow storm and she was driving down an abandoned two-lane at around 4am with an SUV. Obviously she was going to fast. This could have been due to being used to a CV for years or she got suckered in by the 4WD (same thing applies to FWD) like so many do. Anyway she skidded sideways on a slippery spot and then hit a spot where the tires got traction on the pavement only to flip over on its side. There she was unable to get enough foot hold to lift the door open against gravity to escape. A snow plow driver eventually came along and climbed on top and opened the door. A Panther CV would not have flipped onto its side under similar conditions. The first thing I did with Marquis for winter driving was put a limited slip in the diff - all the CV police pursuit come standard with that, and I can walk that thing in my 300yd+ driveway through snow so deep it has come over the bumper plugged the grille. I have aggressive tread snow tires on the back end. The only downfall is if the snow is hard packed or super wet. Then I have actually put the car up on a drift where both rear wheels sit and spin. Of course I have also got my F250 4WD stuck in deep snow drifts in my yard as well by putting its body up on the frozen drift the same way with front diff locked and rear limited slip meaning all four wheels just sat and spun. Just this past week I went to look at a 2009 Town Car in Mass that I got track of. It had 35,500 miles on it and supposedly was driven in FLA during winter by the elderly gentleman who had originally owned it. An examination of the underbody revealed paint intact on the floor and even a lot of paint intact on the frame. There was still paint on the bottom of the rocker panel edges that go underneath. I suspect this was from the humid salty air in FLA or it may have been occasionally been driven on winter roads. The interior was like new - even the driver seat did not show rinkles in the leather like I have seen on others where it appears they are about to crack through the leather. I did indeed buy it from the dealer....and for a couple thousand less than asking. He has had it for 7 months with no takers. Not sure why, but demand for these cars in the public mind has waned except for people like you and I that have some common sense. Now all I have to do is jump through all the paperwork hoops for export and import and pay their fees. I will turn this into another summer driver and plan to use it for some road trips. I hate to drive the '90 Marquis much anymore in case I damage it as it was my father's car and is mint. It is fun to drive on the rural roads around here though and take to a local town for a restaurant dinner or the paved backroads to the shooting range I belong to. The first thing I will do with that Town Car, after getting an oil change, tranny fluid change, diff oil change, coolant flush, and brake and power steering flush is get it oil sprayed to halt the rust underneath in its tracks. I still get the old '90 Marquis and Stang oil sprayed occasionally every few years just to keep a film of oil on the underbody and inside the panels. Ford stated that the reason for the cancellation of the Panther platform from the St. Thomas plant (almost 1,500 jobs lost there when it closed) was due to: 1) loss of demand, 2) the Panther needing a complete makeover to meet modern demands with bells and whistles, 3) worn out tooling at the plant. The loss of demand can be explained by the industry and automotive journalist maligning the RWD body on frame V8 for so long that the new generation buys into the thought that the car was awful. I have found them to be the best highway cruisers for comfort and handling out there. As well, that 4.6L and 4 speed overdrive tranny were indestructible if you showed them some routine maintenance. My mechanic says they are "bullet proof". There is no reason that all the bells and whistles of gimmicky technology that the younger crowd wants could not have been added. I find it hard to believe that the tooling was worn out because the last vehicles they produced demonstrated the same tough longevity that earlier ones had. My belief is that the senior management sat down with the accountants and designers to figure out the path toward higher profits. [I will point out at this time though that Ford was the only NA automaker who did not take handouts from either the Canuck or American govts back in 2088 unlike both GM and Chrysler.] So the path taken was to switch to FWD and unibody frames on the Taurus/Fusion. Even the Explorer SUV is FWD. It is cheaper to manufacture a unibody than body on frame design. It is also cheaper to just plunk an engine/tranny assembly under the hood than having to put a tranny, driveshaft, diff and axle underneath. Although a higher compression V6 operating at higher revs will outperform the 4.6 V8 for acceleartion there is no way they will last as long as the venerable 4.6 nor the unibody last like the body on frame Panther, but who cares since that means more consumers to sell new cars to on a regular basis. Plus just think of the money for dealerships on repairs and Ford for selling parts. There is no profit selling cars that last for years to people who keep driving them and do not buy new ones. Back in 2011 when the Panther was cancelled you should have seen some of the denigrating posts made by members on an automotive board. Basically they were glad to see it go, even though some admitted they had never actually driven one. Those that had driven a Panther wanted performance from it like my GT Stang which was never the point of the Panther sedans. Just get a Panther out on the open highway where you can set the cruise and coast along in total comfort for hours until your bladder demands you stop. LOL I have sat in more than one modern sedan and SUV where my butt and thighs went to sleep due to the seat being like a board or the design seemingly cutting off circulation. No thanks for a long road trip in one of those pos. I also find it interesting that a relative made fun of my V8 for being a gas hog, even though I regularly get 25mpg with daily hwy and city driving combined and told them about travelling through upstate NY on a road trip where I achieved over 32mpg. The gearing in the rear end gives the best mileage at 55mph which is the state limit in most states on 2 lane hwys. The funny thing was that they would not tell me what they got for fuel mileage with their V6 SUV....HAHA. When I recently drove my Marquis down to Mass to look at that Lincoln I used slightly over 2 tanks of gas on a trip that was a 750 mile journey. I was worn out after doing that drive down and back home in 33hrs including time to eat, bathroom breaks, an much needed passing out sleep for 8hrs , and actually make the deal on the car (it sucks to get old) while the Marquis was ready for more without a hiccup....LOL

The Lincoln town car was as close to automotive perfection as it ever got, across the gamut of beauty, reliability, longevity, comfort and pleasure of use. While this generation was admittedly not as luxurious or comfortable as the 80s and 90s generations were, THIS generation of 4.6 has been known to go 500 to 600,000 miles on the original Drive train, with only fundamental maintenance. I personally think that was one reason why the panther platform was killed off. People weren’t bringing them back and trading them in on new cars. They were keeping them. Forever. And the cars kept performing. Forever. I know multiple people who have stated that car dealers have left notes on their 2000-gen town cars in parking lots inviting them to bring the car in to trade. Should NEVER have killed them. I can tell you also that the chargers that police are now using as interceptors rather than the crown Victorias are costing the departments a bloody fortune in maintenance.

Buy a 2006 to 2011 they came with the updated transmissiom the 4r75r instead of the 4r70w used in the crown vics that are known to have problems with the front pumps in the transmissions. Took me way to much research to find that out. I bought a 2001 then found some info on this on wikipedia but it was lies told me that 2002 and up got the 4r75w so i bought a 2003 still have both of them.up for sale. Found out that had the 4r70w. Then i found the real info of the trannys geting the update on these and mercury grand marquis possibly all crown vis but might be just the police cars in 2006 and up. And checked with alot of people on facebook market place with them checking in there owners manuals for me and yea seems to be true 2006 and up cars got the updated transmission the 4r75w only way to find out that i know of is in the owmers manual itll say what transmission it has.

IMHO, I think the LTC is a prime example of a NO frills American luxury. I have a 2011, one-owner, which I recently purchased with 46K, along with a 2006 Lexus LS430 I purchased in 2017, also a one-owner vehicle. My wife drives her LS430, while I drive my LTC with NO regrets. Make no doubt that the LS430 is superior to the LTC, but the LTC has some inspiring virtues that make it a pleasure to drive. For instance, (1) the LTCs with its V8 only requires regular gas, while the LS430's V8 requires high-test. (2) I have driven both vehicles on long-distance drives, each over 500+ miles, and the LTC is a more comfortable cruising ride over the LS430 - the seats in the LTC are simply more comfortable. (3) When standing still, both cars have a presence that turns heads, yet the LTC, with its classic lines, seems a little sportier with its long front end and chopped rear end. (4) As big as the interior/trunk space of the LS430 is, it's no comparison to the interior volume/trunk space of the LTC. (5) Simply, the LTC is easier/less expensive to maintain than the LS430. The LS430 is five years older than the last 2011 LTC. Some very simple features available on the LS430 SHOULD HAVE been made available as standard features on the LTC. Examples: (1) gas cap hook on the inside of the gas door, (2) lighted defrost indicator on outside side-view mirrors, (3) air cabin filter, (4) lighted key ignition ring on the steering columns, (5) one-touch up feature on drivers window, (6) one-touch up/down feature on the front passenger window. (7) stereo/cell phone blue-tooth, (8) an upgraded stereo, and (9) and finally a keyless key fob. The LS430 surpasses the LTC when it comes to (1) exterior/interior fit/finishing, (2) agility/handling in everyday driving, and (3) quickness off the line.

Crown Vic and their nicer cousins are actually quiet good as far as handling is concerned. With CVPI suspension components swapped, a Lincoln Town Car can be changed into sleeping muscle sedan when combined with engine mods. I used to have a 2002 Grand Marquis GS with the handling package. It was better than most cars I've driven. Now I just bought a 1998 Lincoln Town Car and as far as I can tell, the handling is a little more "smooth" than my Grand Marquis was. I need some more time on a windy road to really tell of the smoothness takes away from the handling. It is a fun car to drive. Really feels like a boat but with precise but smooth handling.

I prefer the 1998 to 2002 interior. This seams to be a downgrade from my 1998 signature. But the exterior post 2002 is better.

Ewtá de venta este auto?

I own a '03 Town Car and, over all, I love it. A few things I don't like though. Number one is the leather seats. They are NOT comfortable, especially on long trips. Plus, the "auto" seat position with it moving every time the key is inserted or removed caused the seat motor to wear out prematurely. The digital dash cluster shorts out and displays random nonsense, thank God for the analog speedometer, and the auto-climate control is way over engineered. The simple three switch set up used for 50 years would be a lot better. The ride is superb, the best I've ever experienced, and it's economical for a large car, about 25 mpg on the hiway.
