MCN Senior Road Tester Michael Neeves reports on his seven month ownership of Suzuki's 2011 GSX-R750
Having covered over 10,000 miles on road and track, including road trips to the Isle of Man TT, Le Mans and Ibiza in addition to over a dozen track days, Michael reviews the GSX-R 750, detailing the positive and negative points.
Described as the "perfect size for a sports bike on the road", we find out what makes the Suzuki GSX-R 750 an ideal road and track tool and get the benefit of Neeves' extensive tyre testing to find out what works well on the 750cc Suzuki.

I know this is old but i keep coming back to this cracking review, watching and listening to Neevesy just makes me want to go out for a ride, have a K4600 as a first bike (at 50 years old), it's been brilliant, wee bit sore on the wrists and back after an hour but not too bad, might upgrade to a newer 750 in a few years.

I have a 1998 Honda VFR800 Interceptor which I've had for 10 years. Like the GXSR750, it's a truly great bike over-all. Thanks too for the tire info (10 years old but useful today). I'm running Bridgestone S22 on the Interceptor, and Metzeler Roadtec Z8 on my 2007 Yamaha FJR1300. Thanks for the 10 old video

My 1st. bike, way over my head and should have started on a smaller one. Started riding at 60yrs. old, didn't like city riding and rode in so. Ca. canyons with a small group of riders. 1 of the riders was top 20 in the U.S. in the 80's and learned about riding and safety. I ended up giving the bike to my son and bought a FZ07 which was a great bike to learn on as well as started tracking. Fast forward, gone through 4 other bikes mostly canyon riding and ended up with a 2018 Street Triple RS which is a bike that does everything very well. Wt. is 421lbs. not the lightest bike but not heavy. I track the RS and my track time is 3 sec. slower than my son's GSX-R750. The GSXR feels more planted and way more fun to ride. Looking for another GSX-R750, modifications are new master cylinder, SS brake lines and better pads. Weighing in over 205lbs. I would update the front and rear and will not go crazy but a good shock and springs. Engine will leave it alone, puts out close to 125HP out of the rear which is plenty. The GSXR is a fantastic bike and for the track is a great bike easy to ride and go fast. Remember it's the rider that's fast not necessary the bike. Riders are on a Kawasaki 400 and smoking most of the 1,000cc bikes at Chuckwalla. The GSXR's are all the same from 2011 to now and someone made a comment that the newer bikes are junk, that tells you how much someone really knows about bikes in general!!! Be safe and have fun!

Sounds like a good bike. They look very lightweight and compact with a good ride position. I was using the Dunlop Q2 tyre when I was learning to give me that grip margin I needed, they were too good for my bike though (FZ6R), the pegs were scraping well before the grip ran out. I'll probably go back to the SportSmart which are sticky enough for most bikes,great wet feel, round shape with linear turn character and get good mileage. I hope the knee feels better soon Michael.

I remember reading an article in MCN quite a few years ago about a fellah who did an intercontinental tour on his Gixxer 750. If your knees and hips can cope, it's a really fast, economical and practical platform for doing big tours. What the hell is all that horrible buzzing in the background throughout the video?

Hi Michael, you were talking about Dunlop sportsmart 2 twice, presumably when you mentioned sports touring tyres, what you meant to say was Dunlop roadsmart? I like MCN videos, but often they're not well edited, one of your videos on 1500 pound winter bikes has no sound from half the way through. Agree on sports touring rubber, used roadsmart on my gsxr1000 through winter, awesome tyre and thoroughly recommended for the road.

they stopped bringing them to Europe in 2018 and Australia in 2021. I think emissions? Only available in USA I think and I gather the only difference is the addition of ABS? It would be good if they added a quickshifter and cruise control.

@@kanga-blue oh wow I didn't know that. Thank you for the response. Such a bummer to keep seeing more bikes and cars being limited from being sent to certain countries every year. @@ryllyduc1198 you're in the US? The 2023 model has been announced there. It's the one on some promo material I saw ABS listed but on other material, it was not listed so I am not 100% on that. ABS would be good on the road, particularly in wet conditions.
@ryllyduc1198
@ryllyduc1198 Жыл бұрын
@@kanga-blue I am yes sir. Everything on Suzukis website doesn't mention ABS on the GSX-R 750 this year. It does have drive mod selection, fully adjustable suspension and apparently an electronic adjustment steering damper. It's certainly one of the best bang for your buck bikes available here at the moment. Not a lot of tech but that's not a terrible thing.

It makes perfect sense, you are spending all day at the track pushing the bike to its limit at very high speeds where as on the road accidents tend to be slipping out on some grit at low speed or like in my case slamming into the side of a half blind old ladies car who decided that right as I was riding by was the best time to pull away from her stop sign. I could have been naked except for my helmet and I still would have broken both my wrists, got a concussion and not lost any skin.

There is no chance Honda will bring out a CBR800. With Moto GP and WSB now using 1000cc bikes there is no race-marketing for an 800 and with sportsbike sales down accross the board they won't spend millions developing a new model to compete in an already packed market place.

I own one 750k9 - DON'T make the same mistake, these bikes are poorly built, have had numerous recalls, and still don't work.....mine has under 8k miles on the clock and I'm ready to scrap it off - I will say that when it works the fuel injection is brilliant and once you get the handling dialed in it's fun to ride (Michelin 2CT's), but overall it's a VERY poor bike......if you have no money, and can handle constantly having to bump start it and the paint scratching if its struck by anything heavier than polystyrene then it might be the bike for you - otherwise spend the bit extra and buy a Honda. Oh, and it's always been kept in a garage and has had nearly £2k of servicing since I got it at 4200 miles - Suzuki = bottomless money pit

It wasn't 9 years old when I bought it (it was 4 - coming up 5), been garaged it's whole life, had just 4200 miles when I bought it and totally standard, I spent nearly 2k in servicing making sure everything was perfect....and BTW, I'm a fucking Aircraft engineer, so I know the difference between a lemon and a clean, original, low mileage model - oh, and I even BUILT a GSXR 750 (into a 400 frame - and that was more reliable), fact is all bikes now are crap, even new Blades have stupidly brittle plastics and a rep for burning oil - my old 99 blade might not be as fast as my 750, but at least I had confidence in it to get me there.

Furthermore age is irrespective, a while back I bought a crappy 99 Honda Deauville as a protest bike (18k on clocks)....bike had numerous owners, lived outside most its life and it always started on the button, I only ever put fuel in it and ran it.......believe it or not they are a lot more fun than you would give them credit for, I had mine off the edges of the tyres and they were cheap crap touring tyres. I also have a 20 year old TL1000S that I've restored (29k) and it starts every time, I've also taken that off the edge of the tyres.

Some guy said the ones to get are 04, 05 and 2011 which happen to not be what version you have. What are your thoughts on the 04 and 05 gsxr 750? I plan on getting a suzuki dr650 dual sport for my first bike. I allready have a 1989 ktm 250 2 stroke dirt bike and that thing is crazy quick will pop wheelies in almost every gear when you are just try to go full throttle lean on the tank. I was thinking about getting an r6 then a 675 daytona triple popped into mind and now an 04 05 gsxr 750. Maybe I will even decide to get 1000cc bike since either way I am getting the bike for the purpose of track riding but will also do some street riding but I will have the dualsport for traveling/adventure. I could and if I can will test ride my friends 636 and my other friends r1 and my other friends yamaha fz09 847cc triple before I come to any conclusion.

mark hill Don't worry about what phailandaids said he is reffering to the K9 so just don't get a K9. They are newer so the used market for them will be more expensive anyway. Check out this article it is very good www.motorcyclistonline.com/2004-suzuki-gsx-r750-motorcycle-test and this www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-reviews/suzuki/gsx-r750/2004/ and this forum where people are comparing the 04-05 to the 06-07. www.gsxr.com/7-general-gsxr-chat/74730-2006-vs-2005-gsxr-750-a.html Go with any from 04-07 and remember tires are the most important thing on a bike or car.
