I have a C2 and a P and I am in love with the 2011 platform. I even EDC my C2. That said, you absolutely do not need A 2011. For most shooters a bone stock Glock/M&P/VP9/PDP/320 will do everything you need a pistol to do.

Good point about the recoil impulse for hammer vs striker guns! While it's not a 2011, my Colt 1911 in .45 ACP starts to noticeably slow down cycling after 200 rounds and will start having significant feeding issues starting around 300 rounds until I add a few drops of oil. I have a number of "modern" handguns, some striker and some hammer, that have gone through range sessions or classes with more than 500 rounds in a day and showed no signs of slowing down, and certainly no feeding or extraction issues. While I think the relatively weaker force of the return mechanism from the recoil spring does play a factor with feeding issues, many hammer guns I've personally seen go well over 500 rounds in a day without cleaning or lube and don't seem to have the issues that seem to be present in 1911s or 2011s. Hammer guns like the SIG P-series, the USP or P30, Beretta 92, or even the CZ75 can all be expected to run without needing to replenish oil for a full range day and likely a weekend. That said, even for a CC or competition gun, there's no reason you can't put a few drops of oil on the barrel hood when you stop for a water break if you're taking it out for a range day. And no handgun shoots quite as nicely as a well-tuned 1911 or 2011.

Good points, thanks for sharing! I've wondered why CZs in particular don't seem to get bogged down in a similar manner despite the large amount of rail contact between slide and frame. Maybe partly due to looser tolerances, but I'm sure there is something going on in the physics of the 1911/2011 that brings it on quicker.

@@MagDumpGuns The 75 compacts that I own have a similar barrel hood locking lug design to 1911s. There's less opportunity for play due to the CZs elimination barrel linkage and pin, so I'm guessing they don't have to be fit quite as tightly to still offer consistent lockup. In my 1911s, it's the barrel locking lugs that seem to need lube first, and get hung up mostly in the last bit of the feeding cycle before the barrel is fully locked. The full length rails don't seem to get too messy in either the CZs or the SIG P226. Of the guns I mentioned in the last post, I'd imagine the CZ would have the shortest interval before it needed some lube. That said, I own two compacts and a family member owns a full-size 75B; between the three pistols, I've only ever seen one failure over a combined ~8-10k rounds (a primer that failed to ignite on the first strike).

The intro was very good. Idk if you took some time to brainstorm that, but I actually sat there and listened to what you were saying, and I liked how you gave some perspective on 1911 v. Glock and how it's re-emerged today. Very good informational and to the point video. I just got a Staccato and am waiting for it to come in from the Factory.

Awesome comparison. I like my 1911s but a Double stack single action CZ’s seem to run more reliably than the staccato when dirty. Cajun gun works makes an awesome trigger package for the CZ and many companies do RMR cuts for the CZ.

I'd have to disagree that learning to use the slide release is much faster and more efficient than going to the slide. It doesn't take long to get used to it.
@MagDumpGuns
@MagDumpGuns 2 ай бұрын
Maybe I misspoke, I was referring to using your support hand to work the slide release (on the 2011) vs using the strong hand thumb to work the release (most other platforms). Either of these is definitely going to be faster than the old slingshot “gross motor skill” method.

It’s a factory option - one of the LE skus with black anodized finish. When I bought it there wasn’t any kind of credential verification, so it might be worth giving it a shot if you’re interested in one and don’t technically qualify.

Thanks for sharing. Great feedback, straight to the point. Just subbed. After watching your other videos, what pistol wins in the performance category? I've seen other channels like GA Firing Line, Tier 1 Concealed, Nightwood Guns, etc., compare these guns as well. Heard a tuned Apex'd M&P can shoot as well or better than a Staccato P and that a Ramjet'd Glock 45 (albeit with a DPM recoil system) shoots softer/flatter than any Staccato besides an XC. Would you agree? Are you getting faster Bill Drills or Dickens Drills with any single gun? Lastly, what are your thoughts on the Glock Performance Trigger? Worth it? Comes pretty close to the Apex'd M&P or Staccato in slow fire or rapid fire or not at all?
@MagDumpGuns
@MagDumpGuns 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the support! I think the Apex'd M&P definitely gives the Staccato a run for its money. I'm thinking about getting a threaded barrel so I can run a PMM comp on the M&P. At that point I think it has the potential to be truly special. Time wise I think the Staccato might edge out the M&P ever so slightly (for me) and the Ramjet G45 is probably about the same as the Staccato P. One caveat to this is that I have probably 20 times as many rounds through the glock platform than any of the others, so my comfort level is obviously higher with it. Also, if you watched the Ramjet review, I had not fired 115 grain ammo through it prior to dropping the review. All of my stash is either 124 nato spec FMJ or 124 +p carry ammo. I shot some 115s through it the other day and it was absolutely wild. Regarding the GPT - Initially I loved it, and it felt like a significant difference than my stock Glock triggers. As time went on, the difference between stock and the GPT seemed to blur a bit. Not sure if this was just me getting used to it or not. I will say the GPT was nice for slow aimed fire, but for shooting quickly I don't think it made much difference. I ended up removing it as I didn't see enough of a difference to merit keeping it on there, and I don't clean/lube my glocks hardly ever which the GPT requires. Haven't sold it though if that says anything. I installed an Apex connector on the G45 this week (haven't shot it yet) which gives a bit smoother press for only like 20 bucks.

I wish I had gotten an M&P9 2.0 3.6” before the made it LEO only. I really like my M&P9L (1.0 5”) and M&P9 2.0 5” Tan color, both with Apex triggers. I carry a stock CZ P-10C, have a 10F cut for a 509T and 10C Tactical with a Norsso Reptilian slide (RMR cut). My 10F & 10C tac have HB Industries triggers.

In purchasing the M&P in this video (LE only model) I didn't have to give any kind of credentials, so I would try it if you really want that 3.6. Worst they can say is no! I really want to try the P10f, especially at the rock bottom prices it's at right now, but I worry the trigger reach will be too short for me. The way their backstraps work the trigger reach stays constant. Might still get one anyway just to see though.

@@MagDumpGuns I wear a size Large Mechanix glove. I don’t find the reach too short. I like that there is a large trigger guard. On my Glock 19 during dry fire I brush the front of the guard since the opening is so small on Glocks

I have a metal m&p 2.0 and. staccato. I prefer the M&P. Trained exclusively with the Staccato for over a year. Shot the M&P and was sold instantly. Not because it’s necessarily better, but rather because it did 90% of what the Staccato can do, and it’s cheaper, easier to get magazines, more similar to my duty Glock, and adjustable grips for my smallish hands.

Open guns are kind of a different animal with them being designed around major PF ammo. They are like comparing a stock corvette to a corvette built for Le Mans. Same car (kind of) but completely raced out. Cool in their own way though!

Own both and love both. The 2011 will definitely hide your flaws while the striker fired handgun will keep you honest. What difference, if any do you feel between the metal and polymer M&P 2.0? Also, P10 series are great guns with better ergos and trigger than M&P 2.0's.
@MagDumpGuns
@MagDumpGuns 2 ай бұрын
Difference between metal and polymer M&P is subtle. It gives a little more weight to the frame, but the recoil impulse seems almost identical - the polymer flexes a bit more to absorb shock while the metal frame has a bit more weight. Hard to go wrong with either unless we find out down the road that these metal frames crack or something under heavy use.

I think that you are trying to do the shotgun approach to this subject. Most importantly, what is the purpose (philosophy of use)? HD, EDC, competition, occasional target practice (range queen), etc. When you discuss cleaning a weapon, practice/target ammo can be incredibly dirty depending on the manufacturer. I’ve seen 2011’s go through 2k-3k rounds in competition with hand loads and still run well, but slow down with boxed ammo after 500 rounds. If it’s your EDC/CCW, you most likely are going to clean it after a practice session before you carry it. HD, competition, play gun, most likely not. I’m guilty of the latter. 😅. Either way, good discussion. I prefer hammer-fired for EDC and competition (2011, CZ), but use striker for fun and light EDC.
