If the part number is the same no programming is needed just relearn. If different then it probably won't start until programed. Also, you can hear it engage if you have a no-start and you don't hear that piece of junk making weird noises its probably bad.

Happened to my neices car. Ford is fully aware and had her car for months until replacement parts came in. My sis said they covered everything. Its a known issue with these cars. I tell people to avoid them like the plague.

Yes, there is even an extended warranty for TCM: This increases the TCM warranty coverage to a total of 10 years or 150,000 miles from the warranty start date, whichever occurs first. Ironically i sent my sister to the dealership last year due to this error, they told her it doesn't sound tcm related and they didn't know about TCM extended warranty.. i swapped the TCM later myself as ive got them and solved the problem. I'm tempted to put original bad tcm back and let them cover it under warranty.. But as you stated.. when will that be??
