I ironically had the exact same problem with a 2018 which continued to get much worse very quickly. Conclusion, fully transmission rebuild for $2,500 and I'm in a lawsuit with ford at the moment. With the 12-16 ford has to replace/rebuild for free or buy back the vehicle.

The clutch forks are getting stuck. This can be the result of the shift actuators failing, (very easy to replace) or the shift forks wearing/getting gummed up. Some have had success cleaning the forks from outside the transmission, some by replacing the actuators, and some having to tear the transmission apart. Search KZfaq under this code or P07A5 and you'll find the videos.

I would try replacing the actuator first. Sometimes they get rusty and fail.

It could be a bad shift actuator they bolt onto the transmission. There is 2 one controls some gears and the other does the other. Also good possibility the clutch failed. Best to check actuators first.

I'm actually having similar transmission issue myself with my 2014 Ford Focus SE hatchback. Roughly 2 years ago, my car shut down on me on my way home. Took it to Ford dealership, under Ford extended warranty had the TCM replaced at no cost with both actuator motors replaced. The actuators were not part of the warranty so those I had to pay out of pocket. Also had the starter, battery and body control module replaced. Also out of pocket. Fix lasted roughly 2 years. A few days ago I was driving on a highway when my transmission started to act up again. Car did not shut down thank God but transmission would not shift properly. Engine would rev up from me trying to accelerate the vehicle but it the transmission would not engage the proper gear. Pulled off the highway into a subdivision where I waited a few minutes. Started the car, got it into some limp mode and managed to get it home. I am getting a P07A4 code which is Transmission Friction Element "B" Performance/stuck off, and a transmission overheating wait 5 minutes warning, Will not go in reverse either. I have to push it back.
