The fact that you have to compare this woman to men shows how great she is. I don't see any of you in a D1 college playing ball.

I have only been assistant coach for my elementary school before. But I always thought it was common sense to be fronting opponent's post player if they have THAT much height advantage. Otherwise there's no way you can expect to stop the bleeding/size mismatch. So you front their big man and then try to force them to make a lob passes which would give you more time to double team the post. but just looking at the highlights, it felt like they didnt even attempt to front her

Her play style is centred around the fact that not only she has a height advantage but the fact that nobody she faces has the strength or vertical jump to block her. This wouldn't work in the NBA, if you look at the majority of her highlights, she shoots over the top of people. Any big man in the NBA worth their salt would swat every single shot. Her play style works well in her league but would be shut down instantly in the NBA.

Well, her rookie stats aren't too bad (15ppg/6rpg/3bpg). Her rebounding could use a boost, but I think that has to do with the minutes she is getting at 25 per game. 1,7 turnovers on average is okay, I think, as she does get the ball a lot, even with Diana Taurasi putting up her usual 15 shots per game.

@justmedrea436110 жыл бұрын
To littleJordanscrew, it shouldn't matter if she uses the same move. My coach has always said that great post players typically have only two post move. Their 1st move, then a counter move. That's it. But don't worry, she'll get better.

Kansas St did not have a center that could face Grimer. I couldn't even tell who their center was because she was just as short as the rest of the team.

She just looks dominant in college because all the girls that are guarding her are 5'11 tops. She has the same body size as the average shooting guard in the nba, 185 lbs. and 6'8 stand. Disabling her to body up any posts in the nba. and she couldnt go backcourt because her offensive and defensive arsenal is down low. But, still she is a great female player. :)
@CraZzy3n3rGy11 жыл бұрын
she has some solid footwork down low. Dwight howard could learn a thing or to from her

@deathtotubez how is this unfair. I wouldn't say unfair is the word. It's an advantage that she has. Nba/wnba players have to be tall. That's why they make it big in the leagues. She has an advantage. She's perfect for this sport.

Griner doesn't dunk. She rolls the ball over the rim and grabs the rim. A dunk is when your hand is on top of the ball and throw it down thru the hoop.

Wah wah wah. If I were the other team I'd be more upset that I lost that bad. And I'd find it more disrespectful if I was getting crushed and the opposition's coach said "Nah they aren't good enough for our first team, lets put on bench warmers."
@benhan2311 жыл бұрын
the thing is... gender isn't just a social construct. there are physical differences that are very noticeable at the pro level. this is evidenced when comparing the national records for men's highschool track and field events with women's olympic records. another good example is the matches Karsten Braasch had against the Williams sisters in tennis. he was only ranked 203rd in the world and he managed to beat venus 6-2 and serena 6-1.

K-State had half their team gone, including all their post players...literally seven active players with two of those being walk ons. If K-State had not been competitive in the game for so long she would never had put up 50, unless Mulkey left her in which would be even less classy than the post UL game interview...

Even if Lopez were garbage (which unfortunately he is not) how could you expect a 6'8" 200 lbs individual to dominate a 7'0" 265 lbs (no way he is 265. Having stood next to the dude it's probably closer to 285) individual. This is an uninformed comment. You and Diana DeGette should exchange notes.
