Thank you. I thought that the 2.5L was like the 2.4L and the water pump was in a bad location, but I might consider a GM vehicle with this engine.

Fantastic video! Love your method, how you explain steps that are coming, why it's done that way, then do it. Then you include shots of the belt routing diagram and other helpful reference info that applies the the job. Great stuff! Will help my friend with his 2014 Malibu 2.5 if his leak is the water pump. It broke down an hour away so we still need to go diagnose it.

Did that fix it? I've been leaking coolant on the passenger side for about 2 weeks. Replaced the radiator, and the coolant reservoir tank and it's still leaking.

You need to do it through the wheel well per the manual and my own xperience.

Yes, the 2.0 is the same process and setup. Let's simplify that bleeding "burping" process on the coolant. You don't lose a ton of coolant on that job. Once everything is buttoned back up, crank the engine and let it idle until the temp gauge goes up close to operating level. Cut it off, let it cool off, then take top off and finish filling up with coolant.

Taking the passenger tire off will give you better access to all the pulleys for routing.

But the procedure at the bottom is weird you say at the point of J: install pressure cap fully threaded on then k: fill the coolant recovery bottle to indicator line then add 400ml more . I’m lost there lol. I think you meant to put that before step J: ??

How do I know the water pump isn’t working there’s a squeaking noise by the water pump but not leaking so I need to replace it?

You can start by taking off the serpentine belt. Turn each pulley, they should turn smooth without any play in them. Replace the belt and see if the squeak goes away.

This was leaking quite a bit of coolant out of the pump.

@@gmstezzy The customer didn't mention any overheating. But that's definitely something that can happen. If the pump isn't circulating as well as it should or if the coolant leaks all out.

Helps me none. Mine is a 13' and there are no videos on that year which has the water pump buried down in the back bottom of the engine at the firewall. FML.

Your bleeding of air “process is messed up” and it don’t work . I have done it 7 times and still have air in the system . Also ur steps are messed up on the bottom . You say out cap on tightly then fill up coolant and add 400ml more , rite after you said tighten fill cap all the way lol, anyways otherwise thanks for a decent video otherwise ,

Haha good catch! The printed out instruction page is a snapshot of the manual. I didn't write it. I believe step J and K are if your system has a separate overflow bottle 🤔? Is your car overheating?

Swap steps J and K. I did it roughly the same way and added a 10 minute drive instead of steps L and M. After it cooled off a final top off did the trick.
