I appreciate the comment! Thank you! & just so you’re aware….this is a “serpentine” belt, not a timing belt. These cars do not have timing belts, they are timing chain driven.

Check your power steering pump. It's right next to the alternator, under where the reservoir is. When I turn the wheel on mine, the pump makes a weird noise. I believe its an electrically driven pump, but I know almost nothing about the system. Good luck!

I appreciate the comment! And if you have a 4-door sedan 5th gen Altima, then you have electric steering, they weren’t optioned with manual. The reason they list manual options when you search the 2013 model year specifically…..is because of the Altima coupe. Coupes were still produced in 2013…however they are technically 4th generation’s (last year of the coupe) and they have manual steering. How they should list options for 2013’s is coupe or sedan, it would take the confusion away. But if you have a 4-door sedan 5th Gen., then you have electric 👍

Its because the water pump wasnt pumping. Its also belt driven. As long as you didn’t drive it too long in that condition it should be fine. Just gonna need to top off/adjust coolant level

@@TheOriginalBeeCee busted my knuckle a good couple times from my socket/ratchet slipping off tensioner

If you’re having trouble just don’t lock in the tensioner with an allen-key and just pull it back more while routing the belt over the tensioner.

@@TheOriginalBeeCee I guess the ribs weren't all on. Once they were it fit smoothly but I pulling the tensioner did help a bit

I hear ya man! If you got the right tools its really not hard! Just get that belt off, spin all those pulleys like I did in the video and see if you got any other noises, and then that will steer you in the right direction if you possibly need to replace a pulley or just the belt 👍

Definitely not lol. Timing chain is something that if it aint broke, dont fix it IMO.

Instead of locking the tensioner with key, pull it back farther manually with breaker bar, and hold it and it will give you more play room/leverage.

What up man. Unless you having issues, like with the rad, thermostat, etc. if they aren’t failing, I would leave them alone. If it ain’t broke, dont fix it. Radiator for example really isn’t a “maintenance” item, at least in my opinion anyway. If these engines are maintained, they really can go forever. The engine isn’t what you would need to worry about, it would be the CVT of course, like you mentioned. But even a Nissan CVT can get some longevity with the right maintenance.

This is a serpentine belt. The main and only belt. If you’re at 179k I’d imagine its probably been done once or twice. Should be done every 60k or so. If it looks dried, can’t see anything markings/writing on it and/or it has cracking, then its time to be replaced!

Hard to say, but its pretty tight. Just try and see if you can fit your ratchet in there…if it isn’t a big bulky round style one it might just fit. Won’t know until you try.

I personally believe in if it aint broke, don’t fix it most of the time. So if your tensioner is tight and not making noise, i would just leave it alone!

It keeps falling off the water pump

Whats up man. Sounds like you dont have tension, thats the only way it would fall off. Hate to ask, but if you held the tensioner with an allen key, did you remember to remove it?

@@TheOriginalBeeCeeyes it’s been removed. Well it doesn’t actually fall all the way off, it just slides off the water pump a little and isn’t sitting right. The belt tends to hang off a bit about 1/4 of it. I bought this car used and I’ve had to replace the belt before cause it had a tear in it. I assume it was from hanging off of the water pump. Replaced the belt. Put a new alternator and it started to hang off a bit again after a few days. Do you think it could be my tension Pulley? Thanks for the reply. If you have IG I can send you a pic of what it looks like. I love this car it’s in good condition just has a lot of miles on it

Yeaaa man definitely sounds like the tensioner then. Thats really all it could be if everything is on point and the belt is the correct size!

I actually have a Harbor Freight and Duralast 18 inch breaker bar, I believe I used the Duralast which is a little less husky & a bit thinner.

Sounds like you got a lot going on. You need to get in there and do some diagnosing. Check the battery for voltage. With car cold & off, a good battery should be 12.5v or better. When the car is first started up & running, it should be reading around 14v’s. I would start there and get voltage readings to steer you in right direction & for confirmation. Sounds like either the alternator is bad, and/or the belt is bad and not charging the alternator. Belt should never be loose. I would check voltages not running & running, then replace belt and recheck voltages to see where you’re at.

I answered this in our comment thread on my other video, but I figured I’d paste my response here as well: if you have a sedan then it should have electric steering. In 2013 Nissan also offered the coupe, which is technically a 4th gen. with power steering pump. So thats why when searching for a belt for a 2013 it reflects electric or not. But really they should be just asking coupe or sedan. But since you have a sedan, you have electric.

@@PhillipHall01 the alternator was indeed the sound. the alternator mechanical failed, but not electrically. So it mechanically failed as in the bearing went bad creating this sound, however it was still electrically fine, as it still was charging at 14v+. So, an alternator can still function and charge, however it can sound like complete crap as this one did.

If you had just a sound, it could be potentially be the alternator. But the fact that the belt has snapped, would lead me to believe it would potentially be the tensioner. Something is causing too much tension, causing it to snap. What needs to be done is basically what I outlined in the video….the belt needs to be removed, and each pulley should be spun manually by hand to see if you’re getting any sound out of it, and/or if its hard to spin. It needs a good visual inspection to determine the problem or at the very least narrow it down, you just don’t wanna throw parts at it hoping they’ll fix the issue. And if for some reason if it happened to be the alternator, you would replace the whole alternator not just the pulley.

Yes, this is the serpentine belt. Thats what broke on your car as these cars are timing chain driven and do not have timing belts. So replace the belt and you’ll be on your way!
