Great video! My parents have a Highlander and although my dad normally does all his fluid changes, he didn't want to touch it because of how different it was. Your video was clear and very straightforward and the angle was very easy to see at----no blurry focus or fumbling around with the camera. I know I can do the oil change for him, but I'll show your video to him so he can see just how easy it actually is.

Hey guys just so you know if you have Toyota Highlander. 0W-20 is the only Oil you're going to need for the Oil Change. make sure to reset the Oil life to 100% after every Oil change in this way the Computer will automatically notify you when is time for another Oil change

I bought my oil and filter from the dealer 07/24/2020. The filter was $6 and the oil was $5.91 a quart. Toyota oil is made by Mobil and specially formulated for Toyota engines. I also buy brake pads from the dealer. I like to let my vehicles run a few minutes before an oil change. That way the bearings have oil in them if there is a slight delay in oil delivery after the oil change. I also like to put oil in the oil filter housing on my Highlander before replacing it. It may not be necessary but it puts my mind at ease.

I have a question and will be very grateful if you can reply back. To get underneath the car is it best to jack the car up or use front tire ramps? Due to the incline of the car...not all oil will drain out completely right?
@Loverofengines101
@Loverofengines101 4 жыл бұрын
Hi sorry for the late reply. you have two ways to do it if you're DIY. 1 is to use 2 Jack stands just for the front tires. # 2 is to use two tire ramps for your front tires. do not worry your oil is going to drain out no matter what. make sure to check the description for everything you need for this oil change I have added the tire ramps and the Jack stands. the tire ramps is up to 12.000lb weight capacity. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching

Great video. I saw another that recommended putting 1/2 quart of oil in the filter housing before replacing it. I assume it helps with the first engine start up so oil gets to the block faster. What do you think?
@Loverofengines101
@Loverofengines101 4 жыл бұрын
what happened if the filter housing still open and you try to refill the oil, all the oil will drain out right by the time you done refilling the oil the filter is already full with oil so to me this is not necessary. I have two Cars Toyota and Honda I never have to put oil in the filter before putting back on the Car and all my Cars run great. so this is up to you it's not going to do any difference. the filter is to filter the oil not to help engine to start so long you have oil in the engine you're good.

I believe that refers to oil filters that come enclosed in a can. It won't work with these. Toyotas have a solid reputation for high mileage engines so I don't think it's worth worrying about. Though it seems like a good suggestion, I doubt there's been any scientific studies done on it.

Good video, but for everyone, especially on a plastic filter housing, do NOT use that cheap 4_notch tool. Use the proper aluminum fluted tool! Too many times those plastic nothces break off, if by chance it was overtightened/really tight etc.

Just wondering why does my owners manual says 6.4 qts with filter change. But after I put in 5.5 qts it's right the the full mark on the dip stick.
@Loverofengines101
@Loverofengines101 4 жыл бұрын
I have the same in my owner's manual says 6.4 qts with filter change. But this is the maximum amount of oil you can put in the engine, anything between 5.5 qts. to 6.4 qts is ok for the 3.5 V6 engine. Do not go over the 6.4 qts. I will recommend that you do 5.5 qts because in my Toyota Highlander 3.5 V6 I never put more than 5.5 qts. Of oil. and my Highlander still running great with no problems

I'm not sure about Highlander hybrid. because the hybrid has different type of engine compared to 3.5 V6 gas engine. if I was you I go under the Highlander hybrid and try to find the oil filter and oil drain plug location. after you find all of this you can now call the Toyota dealership and ask about how much oil you need to change your engine oil or take a look inside your owner manual for engine oil capacity. I hope I answered your question 🙏

My old 1974 Harley shovelhead uses the same cartridge TYPE filter, so it’s quite familiar to me; not a problem at all! Don’t mind it one bit... Only drawback is buying the special removal socket- but THIS 2014 Highlander is my wife’s favorite long term KEEPER, so it’s a minor investment. She’s told me that she’ll just trade it off for a newer version in a few years 🤓🥴...
