This is the 2013 custom made step deck trailer I use with my c4500. The trailer has a gvw of 30,000lbs. It has 3 8,000lb oil bath axles with hydraulic disc brakes. Also a sneak peak at the all cleaned up 2013 f450 project.

Hey I have a 2000 Ford f450. I’m looking to buy a older 2005 sho step deck trailer. Will that be an issue to have that setup together? Do you know what type of 5th wheel hitch low profile do you recommend
@kevinhornbuckle7 жыл бұрын
Here is a design idea for the trailer wheel humps. Make four modular ramps which plug into the stake pockets fore and aft of the humps. Bridging the hump could be another piece that could be removable or permanent. It seems like you'd want the option of being able to roll wider rigs over the wheel humps; but not be permanently obligated to carry around the additional weight.
@j.c.smithprojects7 жыл бұрын
i am ok with making the ramps permanent. i think it will be lighter if it is welded in place. i think i am going to start a different trailer project soon. that 53' trailer will have to wait...... unfortunately.

Jc doesn't like that aftermarket stuff, then uses it when he sees the utility. Well being in his predicament it is clear why he does not. Because he has to fix all this stuff without docs. No information that the guy who gets a real benefit from buying it gets as JC just has to figure it out. So get it guys because someone found the answer to your problem already. Excellent.

Lol, isn't it always about time ! Damn , oh well , one project at a time , as long as you keep rolling your camera !!!!

my son would really enjoy that project.....cutting, fabricating and welding his favorite.who knows...i may get the bug and decide to drag it out.

How do you sell these trucks Specifically the f450 with 6800 miles?
@trevormangus78326 жыл бұрын
Do you have the Ford IDS software and VCMII module ? As many fords that you work with it would be cost effective even with the annual subscription to the software. You can reprogram the components yourself

Damn JC, I hope you didn't off that beauty. Whew, that takes my breath away. I remember you building it and nothing cut short on perfection with each and every piece. I can't remember if that was the one you changed the timing cover then crack in oil pan to add to the misery but I will crawl to ohio to bring it home. Uh I'm a little short on money but Trump gave me a twenty dollar increase on my check so pay on the never gets here tuesday/LOL. Just think if you were a distant relative to J.P. Getty or some rich never pick up a tool person, you would own a dealership

I didn't know it was legal to pull that much trailer behind a 4500/5500. Door tag on my '06 5500 says 26k GCWR, trailer alone exceeds that at 30k, is there something I'm missing that you can do 49.5k GCWR legally? Do they only care what you're plated at, and don't worry about door stickers? Mine is a box truck atm, but I wouldn't mind having the option to pull it and add a 5th wheel to pull something like that 53' step deck.
@j.c.smithprojects2 жыл бұрын
look at that tag again. it was probably put on by the company that put the box on it....not gm.
@GrandPrix462 жыл бұрын
@@j.c.smithprojects no sir, it's the GM tag. GVWR 19.5k, 7k front axle, 13.5k rear axle, then it has the tire sizes and pressures, and beneath that the 26k GCWR rating. I've heard others say the GCWR isn't important, so long as you're registered for the weight and you aren't over on tires or axles, but haven't been able to verify that. Just curious to know what all options I have with this truck, appreciate the reply.

a friend of mine was an owner operator for 52 years. he says "you can hook 100,000 lbs to any truck with enough axles.....it doesnt mean you should!" as long as you are not overloading your axles, or over taxing the driveline....i dont think it would matter to me, within reason.
@GrandPrix462 жыл бұрын
@@j.c.smithprojects sounds good to me!
@johnaiken85112 жыл бұрын
@@GrandPrix46 the tag says that because of the parking brake pawl on the automatic.transmission. they are not rate over 26 k , for parking on a hill. Chock the wheels and unplug the emergency trailer brake lanyard. Then the trailer battery will hold the trailer too. Just remember.to.hook it all up before you try to move, or it's like being in a truck pull.
