2013 Altima Hood Problem

If you own a 2013 Nissan Altima, it is very important that you check your hood Safety Catch. I have done four 2013 Altima's for Maryland State inspections in the last couple of months. One had the windshield broken and the front fenders damaged from the hood hinges over extending because of the air pressure hitting the hood when it fly's up. the hood safety catch is binding for road dirt and lack of lubricant. If someone opens the hood and does not notice the safety catch sticks then closes the hood you can accidentally open the hood when you reach for the fuel door release, they are both together on the 2013. on earlier models the fuel door release was on the floor. If you have had a similar problem and you hood has blown open please let me know at payroll502@verizon.net I want to go to the NTSB and get a recall on this as it could cause loss of life, maybe even a head on crash because you can not see with the hood blown up,

Thanks for sharing the how and why. I called our dealership about the recall they put out last week and they were clueless about this. They said they were waiting for direction from HQ before they can fix my 2013 latch issue. Guess we need to be extra careful at the gas station.

2013 to 2017 Altimas have this recall. I believe they have 4 separate recalls to try and fix it now

We have something that similar like that we have something similar like that we had a recall on it before then got fixed but now we have a bigger issue the somewhat lock but the hood still open the gas station ask me why the hood up and now as we see it we have a 2013 altima let place we had them check was the battery but not the hood not staying close

Mine wont pop up when I pull the latch from inside the car so I have to try and stick my fingers the the side where there is a small gap and pull up just enough where I can unlock the safety latch in the front

On the safety catch, when you buy a car and you're not aware it had recalls you're not aware of this, like I said I've never experienced nothing like it before in my life, I ended up hitting something on the road and it tore up the exhaust, and I don't feel like I should turn it into my insurance when Nissan is responsible for this. Any comments

I agree. And Nissan Dealerships if you're unaware they don't. They know which cars have these problems but if you don't mention it THEY don't care. All they want is people's money for service. 👎👎👎

Isn't NTSB more public transportation?.. like airplanes and trains? I think maybe you mean NHTSA as they're the ones that issue automotive recalls? And yeah like others have said, Nissan issued a recall on this matter on Oct 10, 2014.. pretty minor issue, just don't pull the wrong latch.. the hood won't fly open on it's own, you have to pop it.

Me too after the dealer did the Hood Latch safety recall. They say they need to remove front bumper but in my opinion that is impossible without hood open as I did it previously replacing their crap headlights. How was yours fixed?

I had a 2015 Nissan Altima, I was not aware that they had recalls on the hood, never got a letter in the mail nothing, I'm driving home from a friend's house and the hood just goes up damn your bust out the windshield, thank God there was nobody in front of me are any kids playing, it could have been way worse somebody's got to hold Nissan responsible

+P Tinn I'm sorry this happened to you. I contacted Nissan Corp and they reimbursed my insurance company for the charges. I wrote to some senior leaders at Nissan Corp.

UPDATE: my buddy just had this happen to him!! He was doing 60 MPH when it popped up and destroyed his windshield.. G Andrews... He is not very happy! Now Nissan is giving him the run around!

my hood latch is fine but they just recalled it again for the 3rd time! I think you actually have 2 pop the hood while driving 2 get the hood 2 fly up

I have had my Altima since Feb of 2013, brand new. I have never had a problem with the hood release safety latch sticking in the unlatch position. Just so you know that they are not all like that.

how do u not know that u popped the hood! just close it before you take off from the gas station. what they should be recalling is the other day I got my foot stuck underneath a trimpiece by the gas pedal and I was stuck floored fir 3 seconds extra when I tried 2 release my foot! that's recall worthy!!!
