( www.TFLcar.com ) The new 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport and the crazy fast Camaro ZL1 are two of the fastest American made cars that you can buy today. In fact many would say that these two cars represent the very best in American sports performance and modern muscle. So why would we mash them up in a 0-60 MPH performance test and review at a mile above sea level with a new Porsche Cayenne S crossover and perhaps more importantly which of these cars is after. iPhone? Heck, Nathan counts to 10-one-thousand and that's how we get our 0-60 times. And we're betting that you were driving backwards in the Cobalt SS using only half the cylinders to get 5.5 seconds because everyone knows a stock Cobalt SS will easily kick the ass of any puny Camaro ZL1.

No, no - I heard it was 31.7% all new. Or, maybe it was 29.7%. Still, nearly 1/3rd is a LOT of change for one vehicle. I've driven about a dozen Camaros and this is the best. In every way - shape and form. Thanks for watching.

We have found that on average @1 mile above sea level our 0-60 MPH times are about 2 seconds slower than those published by the the car magazines. So that seems about correct. How much gasoline was in the car you tested? What was the tire pressure? How heavy was the driver? What was the traction of the road surface? What was the octane of the gasoline? BTW: we only get 91 here in Denver? How hot/cold was the engine? We could go on all day. Way too many variables to list

We had it in its sport mode and, as it's an auto, it shifted faster and pulled harder than revving it to 2k or more. I played with it and it was the best launch we could get on cold tires. As for the Camaro, I tried five setting combos with several variations on accelerating without smoking the rears (or clutch). I know it's capable of better, but we're regular, unprofessional Joes doing real-world testing. All the same, I got a 0-60 of just over 4-seconds in Los Angeles in a ZL1. Great comment!

And notice, that's the Grand Sport. They didn't use the ZR1, which is 6.2L supercharged V8 producing 640 BHP and a 0-60 in the 3.5 range. I highly agree with your statement there.

5 Flat? Stock? Wow! Come on up to Colorado and let's let that badass out! I mean, even at low altitude, the Zl1 package on the Z28 has only been measured at 5.7 seconds 0 to 60. Wow! That will translate to over six seconds at our high altitude. You're my hero! Thanks for watching!

I think I'm with Roman on this mashup. They're all great cars, but I think the Cayenne holds a good balance between the vehicles. Yeah, it is slower, but it's more luxurious. It has AWD, so I can drive it in the winter here in michigan. Also, I actually can fit in it. Maybe the corvette is roomy, but I gotten inside a camaro and it's very tight on the inside. Nathan's head was almost hitting the headliner when he was driving.

You are totally correct. We test these cars in real world conditions: so we don't short-shift, heat the tires, eliminate any weight (we usually have a passenger) and we still lose 10 - 15% of the hp, even with forced induction. Oh, and we're anything but professional drivers. I tested the Camaro in California too - it was doing about 4-seconds all day with 1/4 mile times in the 12 second range.

I've gotten well over 100,000 miles on every American car I've owned & sold them in mint condition, running like new. Not one of them gave me a problem "EVER" Just scheduled maintenance, & those are cars prior to 2009 which my latest one is. my brother has a 2001 Lincoln Continental with 186k miles on it & he isn't having any problems either. American cars are better than you think. The new American cars are even better now.

This is true,'Vettes can compete w/some of the best high dollar exotics.Look at the stance of the Vette:low to the ground and wide,very even weight distribution,&even MRC being thrown in.All this for a massive fraction of the costs of those exotic cars. And that is why I'm proud to be an AMERICAN!

We had the same issue with the ZL1 and even the Audi R8 V10. In fact one of the only cars that broke the 5 second barrier in Denver was the new Mercedes SL550 and that's because is has both massive HP and a turbo. Check out this video if you have a sec. The thing that is "wrong" with their times is that they are 1 mile above sea level. Less air density means naturally aspirated cars are going to be significantly slower than they would be at sea level.

Guys guys guys, thank you for the review, but for it to be more realistic you gotta get those cars to perform like their prospective owners would drive them: A vette or a Camaro ZL1 owner knows to launch better than that, esp the corvette you didnt even take rpms up to 2k for the launch you just hit the auto from the start...

Those variables CAN play to the 911's advantage, but it's not fact that they WILL. Everyone knows "real-world" driving is completely down to the driver. Some drivers are timid and don't use full-throttle, some the opposite and spin their tires, maybe someone has a fat passenger, bald tires...etc. You can't give a definite answer to an equation filled with unknown variables. That's exactly why there are race tracks and pro drivers, to eliminate those variables. In which case the ZL1 is faster

Correct however with the Camaro being supercharged the forced air should minimize if not correct any loss of power so the effects should have only effected the Vette bc I'm not even counting that box on wheels you guys put in the video.

I find the fact that the altitude skews the results really misleading...a 2 door coupe with 600hp does what my 270hp 4-door sedan does?...It's not a result you can really compare with anything since we don't drive in the same conditions so they really do seem like just random numbers.

All the variables you just listed have considerably less impact on the 911 than on the Camaro. Every driver, skilled or unskilled can get the 911 from 0-60 in the same time that Porsche claims it can. Same story goes for weather issues, in the rain the Camaro has no grip at all while the 911's engine is in the back so it has better traction, not even mentioning the Carrera 4's superior four-wheeldrive system. So yes, in the real world, the Porsche is faster.

Well, if all three cars were tested at that sea level, then I don't see what's wrong with it. In fact it might be better to do so to make sure cars don't break down at that high altitude. As long as the conditions are present when testing all the cars in the video, then there's no such thing as a pointless test, unless of course you don't care about it, which I think you do since you're watching this video.

Bro... Corvettes routinely destroys the Porches at VIR on the weekends here. BMW's aren't even in the running and there is one of almost any BMW you can name out here.most of the cars that can smoke the vettes regularly cost at least three times as much.

An engine above sea level (as is the case we these cars) loses power because there is less air ("thinner air") for combustion, and a bit more power is lost when you have an engine with forced induction like the ZL1

The Cayenne S has a 0-60 of 4.9. rating. I just bought one today. so are they saying if i put my sport mode on in PDk and floor the pedal i wont make a 4.9 second run ? Hmmmmm im going to have to try this 😁

Drag strips have better traction cause the strip is coated in a thin layer of rubber from good gripping tire compaounds 1-Foot Roll-out. On a drag strip the first foot doesn't count, they didn't have 1-foot roll-out

Actually altitude DOES make that big of a difference... Imagine half the oxygen pressure if you go for a run. Your lungs have to work harder to get the same amount of oxygen. Same with cars but the vette is at a disadvantage due to its NA engine... I'm not surprised the Cayenne did well since its forced induction.

Actually Ettore Bugatti was Italian born but the car is considered French. The Bugatti name is German owned, but still made in France.

the nissan gtr 2014 track edition ran this same place and "only" achieved 5.09 seconds 0-60, this is a 60K grand sport with a automatic with less HP doing 0-60 .9 / .8 seconds slower.... not sure how it would "spank" them when it can barely beat them... a proper comparison would be a z06 to a gtr track edition or a ZR1 seeing as zr1 and GTR track are same price...

Yes,but the SLP is NOT GM.It's an aftermarket professional modding company,just like Lingerfelter,Hennesey,etc. And for the warranty,who takes responsibility for the warranty? Does GM's factory warranty still stand? Does SLP take over responsibility? Or does the selling dealership assume responsibility? Oh,why are you mentioningMustangs? This vid does not even have a Mustang in it. And mark my words,CORVETTE will step up&widen the performance gap soon.Chevy will not let Camaro beat Vette.

Uh, Josh? We do most of our testing at over a mile up. Do you know what happens to ALL internal combustion engines at high altitude? No? Even with forced induction? Are you aware we do real world testing? Yep, didn’t think so. If you want to put people down, try learning about the circumstances before you look ignorant.

Look, this vid is about how Chevys stack up along side a Porche which these guys believe are meant to compete with each other. Also, this is the GM factory production ZR1, not the resold modified SLP. Additionally, since Ford is not part of this line up, lets not soil these guys' video with your Ford hatred bantering. Lets bring that argument to a Ford vs Chevy vid instead.
