Dude who got the yellows got robbed. Dude who ended up with railroads and dude who got blues made out like bandits.
@Ohrami
@Ohrami 5 жыл бұрын
I would say the person who was worst off was actually the person who got the reds. The board position was a little worse for the reds than for the yellows at the time and he couldn't build that much either. The person who wound up ahead of the game at the end of the trade was probably the person who got the dark blues, just because of the board position and his cash stack making bankruptcy to him so likely given the board position, but the person who got the best deal was absolutely the person who got greens and railroads. 5-way trades are complex and require you to pay close attention. If the other players did that, they could have taken the yellows off the table, thus excluding him from the trade, and instead included the light blues. They didn't realize it at the time, though, due to how much was going on at once. The game wouldn't have changed any, though, because the player with dark blues got insane luck. He definitely made the right decision to go with dark blues over pinks in my opinion though. Most people are afraid to take the risk of the dark blues due to how inconsistent they are, and he definitely would have been winning by far after the trade if he took the pinks, but the dark blues were far superior given board position. Every single player was coming up to his dark blues at the time of the trade, and one hit almost guarantees bankruptcy which almost guarantees him a win. I doubt the other players at the table realized he had so much money, otherwise they likely would've made him give money away. What they should have done, though, is completely cut the player who wound up with the dark blues and the player who wound up with the greens and railroads out of the trade. They had the light blues, the dark blues, and the oranges between them.

The guy who got the REDs also gave up A LOT of properties. I agree with cutting the Green + RR out of the trade entirely. He basically demanded that from the get go at which point he could have been dropped like that.

When hurricane sandy knocked out nj's power out for a week my group of friends just played monopoly most of the time. We were JRs in high school applying basic statistics to the game. Time went on and we still played, and got faster, and faster. You'll notice in the video some players just grap their token and know where it goes without having to count. This is a trick using the corners and railroads. When you have a good banker, and someone who knows the moving trick games are literally an hour an a half with some beers. It really has become a new game. once you got the stats down, and the speed it becomes way less boring. It's got a great balance of knowledge needed (math), luck (good rolls), and the hustle (negotiating).

What happened to monopoly tournaments - do they even do them anymore? The last one I remember was several years ago when they introduced the speed die and mandated it's use in the tournament... then I haven't heard about one since. When played correctly - Monopoly is a lot more strategic than people think and goes faster than people think.

Congrats to the winner (Geoff Ellis of Bakersfield) and to the four other finalists: Matt McNally (2003 U.S. Champion), Craig Way (2009 U.S. Finalist, famous for driving the "Sold Gold Race Car" token, as seen in this video), Ken Koury (3rd place, 2003 U.S. Championship), and up-&-coming tourney expert Brian Valentine of Orlando, Florida.

@@Ohrami damn did they have thumbtacks in them?
@Ohrami
@Ohrami 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffreyd700 Nah. The dice being used in this tournament game are standard casino precision dice. They are extremely sharp because they are perfect cubes. They are incredibly uncomfortable to hold and use and will literally puncture holes into your game board. Precision dice are great because they are the same density on all sides. This means that every face is equally likely to turn up. In my Monopoly games, I now use backgammon precision dice, which are required for tournament backgammon play. These dice are like casino dice, but they're much smaller and have rounded corners. This means they'll roll more, which means it's harder to "game" the dice by kinda dropping them, and it also means they won't puncture the game board or feel uncomfortable to hold, but they still retain all the benefits of casino precision dice.

In the other, you pick when to go through with the odds you were given at the begining of the round. Monopoly has much more interaction between players and potential actions that can be made to benefit the player playing well than Poker does, but the game of Poker has its skill in hiding facial expressions and knowing your cards and odds. Both games are tactical and both have a big reliance on luck, but none have it big enough that it overwhelmes skill everytime. Both also use skill in their own way, in Monopoly's case its acting and reacting to the playing board that everyonr can see, while Poker has it set to act and react to cards that are hidden.

+Snoopy Schulz I do not think it has ever been defined, but probably for logistical reasons: 1. convenience:1 person for each side of the board. Anything more than 4 would cramp the board and table 2. speed: if you have games of 5+ players it slows the game down considerably as it is difficult to acquire monopolies and it becomes tedious and boring

A person with low cash who was able to invest $1,800 at least into his properties to get a hotel? I'm not sure if you know the meaning of low cash.

@@Apezz19 Nah, rereading your statement I think that I was misinterpreting what you said 5 months ago. You were stating that you only trade it to players with low cash because in the past, you traded it away to someone with large amounts of cash and lost because of it. I will, however, tell you that this method of thinking is the wrong one. In the long term, Boardwalk and Park Place are some of the worst properties to own, due to the relatively low probability that they are landed on. Since getting people to land on you early is one of the most important parts of the game of Monopoly, having a property that is landed on more often is incredibly important.
