Welcome to TFLcar's Viper week. For the next 5 days we'll be featuring a new Viper video every day. Today we continue with a 0-60 MPH first drive review of the new Viper that tries to answer a few simple questions....does the new Viper still pack a lethal punch and has the newly formed SRT brand sharpened the Viper's fangs? Only one transmission option..... 6-speed manual! That's exactly how it should be! A true sports car. And this is coming from a guy who races Formula Mazda's which we now run 7-speed sequential paddle shifters. Race specific vehicles, paddles are ok, sports cars, keep it to an H-pattern transmission.

As far as review videos go, that was pretty damn good. Informative and a good view of the interior. Sound effects were a tad loud though.

It's a race/road car and handles as such. In other words what makes the Viper such an tremendous track car also makes it a handful on the road. It won't fishtail because the stability control won't allow that but switch the stability control to race or turn it off and 640 HP fed to 19 inch wheels will always overcome the available traction.

Poor Nathan didn't get to drive this thing. I'm sure it was a good move not bringing him along because you'd probably have a very hard time getting him to leave (without the car). As always a great review and looking forward to the next video. Keep em coming.

Excellent review! I really think the new Viper has gone back to its roots stylistically. Also, where is the very first Viper that was shown at the end of the video? Is it in a private collection?

6:55 I know what this guy means. When I was 18-22 I worked as a valet at a golf course in FL and was lucky enough to be trusted bringing some really nice really expensive cars home to wash and detail them. God I miss that job!

As you can tell it was raining the entire day. At the track a journalist stuck his Go Pro Cam to the front windshield and you can probably guess the rest. Needless to say the Go Pro stayed on and the wiper didn't.

I fell in love with this vehicle a long time ago. I currently own a red Pontiac Solstice convertible and previously a red GST Mitsubishi Eclipse Coupe. I really appreciate both engineering and design regardless of brand. I paid a fraction of the cost of a luxury car and would not trade it for no VMW or Mercedes

I wonder that too as I sat in my buddie's yellow 2001 Viper GTS Coupe Heffner 1500TT and I could see out through the front window perfectly.

@adriano celentano The problem is that they test the cars in a higher region. So especially non-turbo cars have really bad 0-100 times because the air is much thinner. I think that the viper would reach 100 km/h with perfect conditions in about 3.3 seconds

The first AWD mustang produced was in 1969. It was a Pre-production model that never made it to fruition. Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) experimented with and AWD package again in 2002 for the soon to be released Terminator Cobra however as they usually do they scratched the Idea I favor of lower production/sales cost.

Pricing Manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2013 SRT Viper model is $97,395, MSRP for the 2013 SRT Viper GTS model is $120,395 (both excluding $1,995 destination). Hmm, do I really want a Viper or a Porsche 911 Turbo S or Nissan GTR? They are very similar in price already.

Completely agreed. I drive an AWD Audi A4 making around 380hp, and it slides in the rain when I launch it. I can't imagine how bad a 600+ hp RWD car would wanna get out from under you. It's not as easy as it seems.

A friend of mine put a 340 ceptor in an old Dart.It ended up being his coffin (died in a car accident in it) but don't feel bad for him. He would has saw it as a premium way to leave. That car was scary bad. I had the same engine in an old stepside Dodge truck and it was absurd. Ass end was all over the place if you cracked it. Bounce and burn, burn and jump. Viper is a perfect name for a Dodge because the power in one is just plain snakey. Dodge Man for life.

I don't know about this new version, but the previous versions would reach 60mph in first gear. That shift to second slowed it down quite a bit if that is the case.

Harley Earl designed and built the first pre-production prototype in 1951 where it was displayed at the Motorama at York City's Waldorf Astoria in 1953 (now known as the NY auto show). The cars weren’t made available for sale to the public until later that year. There is no such thing as a 1949 Vette if the first prototype wasn’t built till 1951 and it was not a coupe it was a convertible with a removable hard top. A coupe is a 2dr, 2-3 seater hard top. Check your sources.

The weight of the viper v10 depends on the year and if you want to compare the equivalent German v10 to the viper v10 the German V10 weighs about 2-300 pounds less. For instance the s85 v10 weighs less then 500 pounds where as a majority of the viper engines produced weigh over 700 pounds. lasting longer or not 200 pounds is quiet a difference in performance engines not to mention ive seen more s85s with well over 100k miles running beautifully, then Ive seen vipers with that many miles.

Is 640hp the most bhp they can get out of that engine ? Lambo are getting perilously close with their gallardos, which only use a 5L V10, instead of 8.4..

i dont mind the ACR or any Viper at all. Mean machines. But from what Ive been seeing, ZR1 is a track monster. id like to see the ACR and ZR1 duke it out on the track. Also, Im a Chevy guy, so of course im goin for the ZR1. But I dont hate on any car that maybe better than the other. When I do see a Viper , which seems rare, im like "Whoa, a Viper!" : ). Regardless of which maybe better or the best or whatever, id still choose any Corvette. Such legendary automobiles.

Sorry Pyro but a race typically means going from one location to another in the fastest time. Therefore the ThrustSSC has the most powerful engine, or engines in this case, that you can probably find. The twin Rolls Royce Spey 205s produced slightly over 50,000bhp per engine. The ThrustSSC is similar to a drag car in that they go fast in a straight line and then stop. I guess the top engine in this case belongs to Great Britain...
